i knew that, but how come the other 3 charges were not real time but held and then charged after the gas? if any overdraft was to be applied, it should have been to the gas, not the other charges TWO DAYS before the gas. it seems to me it is specifically chosen when real-time is to be applied and when charges should be held.
Look I didn't read the whole thing, let alone all of the replies, but I work for a bank so let me educate you;
1. Like the initial response to your ramble, ALWAYS keep sufficient funds in your account when using your debit card.
2. When a transaction such as your gas purchase posts in real-time as apposed to a few days later, that means that it was a PIN based purchase, as opposed to swiping your card at the gas pump and only entering your zip code.
3. At the end of the business day, bank settle using what are called "Transaction Codes" which delegate the order in which transactions post or "settle" against your balance. For example, if a deposit has a transaction #1 and a gas purchase has a transaction # 2, the deposit will post first. All banks have their own order in which they settle as it is not regulated federally.
4. If the branch manager EVER raises her voice or acts as if you are not the MOST important customer with the MOST important issue, ask for the name of a district manager, or an operations supervisor. Whether your situation was warranted or not, customer service is the branch manager's PRIMARY job.
I know my response was long winded, but it's the truth and I have a career in finance, so it's valid information. My suggestion to you? Cut up the debit card for a few months!
