All honesty what do you want your focus to be in? What part of ancient culture, or region?
I'm working on ways to deal with a lack of stratigraphy, and lack of bone/organic materials in the archaeological record of the Canadian Boreal Forest.
For Archaeologists stratigraphy and organic materials are important because it's how we date things. Because of this problem in the Canada's boreal forest region (oilsands area) we still don't have a concise culture history of the region - which my methods can help with.
To me it's cool because no one wants to try and tackle this problem and so little to no academic work has been done there so I'm going into uncharted territory and actually contributing to something. Most people want to study hella over studied regions of the world and got nothing new to say, really.
