It wouldn't surprise me if that wasn't the only molestation and possibly incest going on with this family. Most people that commit sex crimes at the age he was (14 at the time) are usually victims of sexual abuse themselves. Not that it excuses it in anyway but it tends to be a cycle of abuse in these situations.
