Man severely wounded in Kent shooting incident

Posted by Steve Miletich

Kent police said they were looking for a suspect in the shooting Sunday afternoon of a man who was wounded and suffered possible life-threatening injuries during an altercation.

The incident occurred about 1 p.m. in the 22400 block of Benson Road Southeast, police said.

The victim, a man in his 20’s who was shot in the lower torso, was taken to a hospital, police said.

There were several witnesses to the altercation, but the reason for the dispute wasn’t determined, police said. The incident was not believed to be gang related or a random act of violence, police said.

The victim had confronted a man he knew, who lived in the area, police said. The suspect argued with the victim and fired several shots, according to police. The suspect then left the scene, police said.

Police said they confirmed the suspect’s identity and provided information and a description to neighboring agencies.

He was identified as Wendell Oliver Adams Jr. , 26, described as black , 5 feet 9 inches, 170 pounds, last seen wearing a black T-shirt, black colored shorts and a grey hooded sweatshirt.

Believed to be in possession of a black handgun, police said, Adams Jr. should be considered dangerous. Anyone with information on his whereabouts was asked by police to call 911 or contact the Kent Police Department at 253-856-5808.

Police said the first officer on the scene administered first aid until firefighters and medics stabilized the victim.

“A quick response by our Patrol and Detective units assisted us with not only providing medical aid to the victim, but obtaining vital information to assist our continuing efforts to locate this suspect” Sgt. Jarod Kasner said in a statement.
