Well, if you need another reason to hate mayweather here is a good one:

Mayweather-Mosley is a Non-Title Fight, Says Schaefer
By Rick Reeno

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer has confirmed that Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Shane Mosley, scheduled for May 1 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, is technically a non-title fight. The WBA's welterweight title will only be at stake for Mosley, because Mayweather has refused to pay the necessary sanctioning fee.

"This is not a WBA championship fight, but on a separate side, we are currently discussing with the WBA, for Shane, that Shane would be defending his belt. For the purpose of this call, it's bascially a non-WBA fight. The two best fighters fighting each other, that's what's at stake here," Schaefer said.

If Mosley wins, the victory would count as an official title defense. But if Mayweather wins the fight, the title will either become vacant or the sanctioning body may decide to keep Mosley as the champion. When Schaefer was asked if Mayweather had the ability to win the title on May 1, assuming he beats Mosley, Schaefer replied "no."

Now for those scratching your heads wondering why Floyd wouldn't want the belt, well here's the thing - when you win a title you have to defend it and defending your title includes mandatory title defenses - you know when a fighter has to fight the #1 contender. Floyd is basically saying, no I don't want to defend a belt I want to be able to pick & choose who I want, when I want and where I want.

It's obvious that Mayweather doesn't care about winning the belt, he just wants to beat Mosely and get paid while doing it. As long as the fight goes down, I could care less about the belt that Mayweather doesn't care about winning.

I still don't see why he wouldn't want to become the champion, if he wins. It would make a potential fight with Pacquiao even bigger, and would give him more leverage in negotiations.

Eh, whatever. Just makes him look like more of a bitch than he already does.

he could win the belt and then vacate it if he doesn't like the mandatory. Is he that cheap? I mean they are talking about having over 2 million PPV buys for this fight, what's a couple thousand to floyd? i don't get it.

Anyways, regardless this is why things get screwed up at the top and certain guys have impossible times getting title shots. If titles aren't respected then that leads to what we have now - all the top guys doing whatever the hell they want with no regard to mandatory title defenses.

I don't understand why he wouldn't want the belt either (maybe like the post earlier stated he probably wants to control who he fights) but that's Mayweather and he has his reason(s). The best Welterweights are going to fight to see who's the best and that's enough for me.

In regards to Pacquiao and negotiations, Mayweather has the leverage already because he's the bigger draw and if he beats Shane while doubling Pac's pay per view numbers it's really going to get ugly. I don't think we're going to see a Mayweather/Pacquiao fight anyway because Pac wants a 50/50 split and won't agree to Olympic Style drug testing.

^ Whatcha talking about Tony. Pacquiao sold 700,000 PPVS by himself. He also sold the 3rd largest attendance in US history for boxing, without a B side. Joshua Clottey was and is a virtual nobody.

Anyways, I do think that Mayweather-Mosley is a megafight without the belt, but having a title on the line adds a bit more to it. I'm not understanding Floyd's logic here. Is he here to stay, or is he just here to pick and choose opponents and make a quick buck?

Arnold, do we have to go over this again? You're giving Pacquiao too much credit by saying he sold 700,000 by "himself" and then saying "he" sold the 3rd largest attendance in US History. I mean how many buys did Pac vs Marquez get? Under 1 million, even the rematch didn't crack over a million. And how many Floyd got against Marquez? Yep, over 1 million. Just match up their fights against common opponents. That's what I'm talking about, Arnold.

Who knows.... maybe he'll retire if he beats Mosley since a fight with Pacman probably won't happen. Or maybe he'll give Mosley a rematch.

Ironic comment from Leonard "I Have A Crush On Floyd" Ellerbee:

What it is, like I said, what happens is that people are always out there looking for reasons to want to try to take away someone's accomplishments.

How funny is it that he says this, in response to the Lidocaine accusations on Floyd...? The irony.

^ Obviously, the point went right over your head. Its just funny how someone from Team Mayweather would say something like that, being that they spearheaded the smear campaign on Manny Pacquiao.

Its the same thing that is happening to Floyd, but multiplied by 50.

Mayweather KO'd by crackhead in 89 seconds.

so I watched Intervention last night On Demand, and there was an episode about this fighter from Seattle Rocky Lockridge. Two time champion. He turned into a crackhead, sad story, yada yada yada. But he was a badass fighter when he was clean.

Anyways, for those that havn't seen this (i never did) Mayweather was undefeated and fighting this future crackhead. This was supposed to be a stepping stone fight for Mayweather. Vicious KO!!
