no point in ortiz, I agree bigface.

canelo is kind of a weak fight for floyd too. I mean you don't go from fighting Alfonzo Gomez and a shot Kermit Cintron to Floyd mayweather. At age 21. I'm sure it will make a lot of money though but he's not close to being ready.

not many options if it isn't pacquiao though. Sergio Martinez, but that's huge risk and would have to move up in weight. Who's left? Berto? Unless he can get out of his fight with Ortiz, don't think that could happen since floyd will need to make a fight ASAP and obviously can't wait around for the berto/ortiz rematch results in late Feb.

Miguel Cotto is the only other option, who's a free agent. So that's possible, hell, even likely.

Mayweather can make a fight with Canelo, Cotto, Peterson, Bradley and Martinez. I think Martinez is fighting Macklen so I think he's off the table.

bradley is off the table too since he's with top rank obviously.

According to Golden Boy it's canelo or guerrero...

Mayweather's Choice Nears: Canelo, Guerrero in The Mix

By Edward Chaykovsky

According to the Las Vegas Review Journal, Floyd Mayweather Jr. will make an announcement next week regarding the details of his May 5th bout at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. According to Golden Boy Promotions CEO, Richard Schaefer, both HBO and Showtime are being considered to handle the pay-per-view aspect. The two fighters being considered for Mayweather, according to Schaefer, are Saul "Canelo" Alvarez and Robert Guerrero.

Alvarez (39-0, 29KOs), the WBC's champion at 154-pounds, would meet Mayweather halfway at 150-pounds. Guerrero (29-1-1, 18KOs) has been campaigning hard for a shot, and wants to move up in weight to challenge Mayweather for his WBC welterweight crown. The two fighters, both Mexican, fight the profile for the Cinco De Mayo weekend, but Canelo is obviously the much bigger draw in Mexico.

"It's clear [Arum] doesn't want to do a Pacquiao-Mayweather fight. I hope it's an eye-opener," Schaefer told the paper's Steve Carp.

I'm beating a dead horse, but I've always felt that Cotto was a bad matchup for Floyd. Good jab, pressures well, good body attack...and underrated speed.

I like that fight.

But on a more important note, what a black eye for boxing if for whatever reason this fight falls through the cracks...again.

Team Mayweather Member Says May Too Soon For Manny

By Chris Robinson

Floyd Mayweather Jr. has once again taken over the headlines this Friday afternoon with the news that the undefeated fighter has been granted a five-month delay on a prison term that was expected to hit this morning. Last month Mayweather was struck with a 90-day jail sentence in relation to his role in a domestic violence case in September of 2010 involving his former fiancé’ Josie Harris and two of his children.

Mayweather had been lined up for a May 5th fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas and earlier today, Justice of the Peace Melissa Saragosa said her decision to grant the extension was partly based on Floyd’s contractual obligations to that upcoming assignment.

Mayweather’s lawyer Richard Wright pleaded with Saragosa just how beneficial the move would be, as the city receives a huge economic boost every time Mayweather, one of the biggest draws in boxing history, fights in the area.

With Mayweather now clear to pursue his May 5th date, the question becomes exactly who will the 34-year old champion find himself in the ring with. A fight with WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao is the most lucrative option but the Filipino icon’s promoter Bob Arum had already set the wheels in motion to pursue other options and there have already been extreme difficulties in making progress on the fight over the past few years.

Mayweather’s cornerman Nate Jones, a longtime friend since their amateur days dating back to 1994, also feels that May 5th would be pushing the envelope a little too fast for such a huge event.

“There’s a slim possibility it’s going to be Pacquiao,” Jones told me shortly after news of Mayweather’s delay hit. “I don’t think Pacquiao’s going to agree to everything on the table yet. But if he does it’s a possibility. I just think Floyd wants a little bit more time to get ready. We’ll probably need more time. Get everything done with the business and start training for the fight. We’d like a little more space in between. Aint no rush to fight a big fight like that.”

There are those in the sport who feel that Arum doesn’t have any true interest in a fight with Mayweather simply because he can make a profit with Pacquiao no matter whom the fighter faces, even if it is an opponent far less dangerous.

“I feel the same way,” said Jones of the Top Rank promoter. “Bob Arum is making a profit now, because he knows, with the last performance of Pacquiao, he didn’t look good at all. So the whole world knows that time is coming for this fight and everybody feels that with the last fight that Mayweather was going to destroy Pacquiao. And I’ve been saying that for the longest. Now he’s going to milk his cow as much as he can before this huge fight.”

But if not Pacquiao, then who is out there for Mayweather? Jones feels that WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto, who has shown interest in pushing forward with his career as a free agent after ten-plus years under the Top Rank banner, is the best fit.

“Cotto would be very important,” said Jones. “It would be an interesting fight. I would prefer Cotto, but [Marcos] Maidana or Cotto or the young brother coming up, Tim Bradley. That would be interesting. Names like that.”

Jones had been corresponding with Mayweather, as is often the case with the two friends, and points out that Floyd seemed ready to go through with his impending time behind bars.

“We was talking back and forth all this week,” Jones finished up. “Just real short. He was saying ‘This time is going to happen. I’m going to do what I gotta do Nate’. I asked if he needed me to talk to him but he said he’d be ok.”

Pacman wants Floyd but…

By Nick Giongco

Manny Pacquiao said on Saturday that he was delighted that Floyd Mayweather has been allowed to postpone his 90-day prison term, telling Fightnews and Manila Bulletin that a matchup with the undefeated American “is a better match.”

Coming a few days before Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum visits Manila to discuss Pacquiao’s next fight, Mayweather was permitted to defer his prison sentence so he can fulfill his obligations to fight on May 5 in Las Vegas. Arum will have four proposals that he will present to Pacquiao next week and among those being eyed for his much-awaited return to the ring are Juan Manuel Marquez, Tim Bradley, Lamont Peterson and Miguel Cotto.

Now that Mayweather seems to be available, Pacquiao will raise the matter with Arum once they meet.

This latest development on Mayweather doesn’t actually guarantee that a proposed super showdown between the two claimants to the mythical title of pound-for-pound king can be easily made.

Even if Pacquiao has already agreed to two of Mayweather’s demands–Olympic-style testing and the smaller piece of the pie–Pacquiao said everything would still boil down to the negotiations.

“We’ll see if we can agree,” said Pacquiao from his native General Santos City.

Arum was surprised by the decision to favor Mayweather and the 80-year-old boxing figure cautioned everyone that it doesn’t mean that all roads lead to a Pacquiao-Mayweather duel on May 5.

There are several factors to consider according to Arum and one of them is the venue.

Mayweather is contracted to fight at the MGM Grand which can only sit 18,000 and Arum wants it to be held in a larger site.

A few weeks ago, Arum had revealed that a 40,000-capacity stadium can be put up on the Las Vegas strip to host the fight.

Reports from the US say that Mayweather is targeting a fight with Robert Guerrero or Saul Alvarez.

Canelo is Ready For Mayweather, Meeting With Golden Boy

By Miguel Rivera

It's been well reported that Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s jail sentence is being pushed back to June 1. The boxer was initially going to start serving a 90-day sentence for a domestic abuse charge on January 6th. Mayweather plans to move forward with a planned fight on May 5th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. There are two leading canididates, Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero and WBC junior middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez.

Mayweather is expected to announce his opponent next week. Alvarez's coach and manager, Edison Reynoso, makes it known that his boxer is ready to drop down to 150-pounds to fight Mayweather on Cinco De Mayo weekend. Alvarez and his team are scheduled to meet with Golden Boy Promotions next week to discuss a possible Mayweather fight.

"We are ready to get down to 150 pounds and make the fight. The people at Golden Boy will speak to to us next week when we travel to Los Angeles for a meeting. It is certainly a dangerous fight, but we can not miss the opportunity to face the best fighter in the world. So we'll consider the offer and if it suits us - we will take the fight," Reynoso told Sal Rodriguez.

Punch stat numbers for the 4th round of Mayweather vs. Ortiz. Mayweather landed 24/46 and Ortiz landed 9/26. Anyone that says Mayweather didn't demolish Ortiz in the 4 rounds the fight lasted is either dumb as hell or a Mayweather hater. Total fight punch stat numbers Mayweather landed 73/208 and Ortiz landed 26/148, again Ortiz got his ass kicked and a boxing lesson. That's why Ortiz was headbutting because he can't land nothing hard or clean on Mayweather, and he was getting hit clean and hard by Mayweather all 4 rounds.. You're either dumb or a Mayweather Hater if you couldn't see Mayweather taking Ortiz apart.
