You can use the other configs. Just go to fight now (the offline version) and when you see the controller select screen press triangle (Y for xbox) and you can select different buttons. whatever config you choose will stay with you when you play online.

The first day I played it the game seemed to go really fast. It was hard to keep up with all the punches. Second day everything slowed down and I can now focus a lot more on defense and counter punching. Right now I like to slip then counter with a powerful straight, works wonders.

I personally like the new camera view but for those that don't there will be a number of camera views to choose from on the retail game including one like FN4.

The computer is actually pretty damn hard. I played online last night and humans are much easier than the computer. Especially when I'm Mike Tyson fighting Ali, the computer always fucks me up. Who was it from the siccness I destroyed last night with Tyson, knocking you down 4 times in 3 minutes and 30 seconds? lol

The main areas they should adjust for the retail version are imo:

Punch Accuracy. Right now it's just too high. Computer lands around 50% - 70% of punches (the higher end if you're not really playing defense). That's crazy. The most accurate fighters in boxing (maywether) land in the 40's and that's because they pot-shot. Realistically punches should be landing anywhere from 15% - 50%, and the high end for a pot shotting counter puncher. If I want to be a super defensive fighter and get good at it, I would like to have my opponent land only 10-15% of their punches.

Stamina. I'm sure for a 3 round demo stamina isn't going to be much of a factor but even so it seems stamina recovers very fast.

Other than that it's good. They could improve some of the overall smoothness here and there which I expect, but mainly just decrease punch accuracy. If not fights are almost always going to be inside wars.

i only put like 15 minutes in so far. definitely gotta get the hang of the controls. one thing i love about this series is that every new version is not just an updated copy of the last game. that being said, nobody should be discouraged from buying round 4 or even 3 while waiting for this to come out. they are all worth owning for different reasons. 3 totally different experiences, dont let their common-name fool you.

So here are the default controls for PS3 and Xbox:

This explains why I was having a hard time throwing certain punches. WTF is a flared straight? lol. I don't mind the "hookercut" even though I don't think that's a boxing term I've ever heard in my life, because guys do throw punches like that all the time. but the flared straight I'm having a hard time understanding. It's a really, really fine line there and not much room for error. I guess just will take practice but again, really fine line.

^overhand, flared straights and straights are really fuckin' close to each other. i've been having problems throwing the exact punch i want to throw in certain situations and it gets me countered way to much on this demo...lol

Just finished playing and I got knocked out twice by Ali. The first was a first rounder because I didn't know that when you get knocked down that you use both analog sticks to get up. I know how to block, and throw a couple of punches, but what do punch modifiers do and how do you bob and weave, slip and throw shots to the body? And is there any way you can increase your foot speed or dash real quick?

^^You can back step and also side step. Try flicking the stick backwards like a double tap. Also double tap up and down to sidestep.

For the bob & weave you have to do a quarter circle forward. Round 4 teaches you how to do this in the training. I'm sure on the retail version of Champion there will training as well. I remember it was hard at first in round 4, so you just got to practice it. I became a master at it but it doesn't seem as effective on champion or I don't have the timing down yet.

Punch modifier adds more power to your shots. So if you want a really strong and stiff jab add the modifier. You want a devastating hook add the modifier. The downside to it is it takes more stamina and if you get countered or miss you can pay consequences.

Good lookin! Now I have one more question. Some times when I get hit, or when I hit the cpu, I see a white flash. Is that from the cameras or is that flash letting me know I just got hit with a big punch and that I need to be careful?

I think it just happens when there is a big hit probably supposed to be from the cameras, adds to the effect of a big shot landing.

The only time you need to be careful is when your health is blinking red, it should be really obvious when you're stunned and in trouble.

that means you got hit with a counter punch aka a big punch you dont wanna get hit by those
yeah this is the better answer.

HERSEY, if you didn't play round 4, on round 4 and now Champion the game really focuses on counters. They are the most powerful punches in the game. You can throw a modified hook to someone in the face and it might not do shit to them, but if you counter that person with a shot, that's what does the damage and most of the flash knockdowns, ko's.

We'll all the action/fighting games like God of War, Darksiders, Castlevania, etc were very big on blocking at a specific time and using that to counter, so if this is more centered on blocking and countering I should have no problem. And yeah when my man was blinking red he wa sslower so I covered up, but I got hit after that and it went back to red and then I got knocked out, lol. I'm gonna put some more time in this but so far I kinda like the demo. Some things seem stiff, but thats because I'm still green and don't know what the hell I'm doing. But I'll tell you this, if you can play this game with a joystick, and it looks like you can, fighting game fans (street fighter, tekken, marvel vs capcom) are going to give you guys trouble. On the flipside, you'll have an advantage because they have to make the transition form 2d to 3d.

yeah that's what I'm saying. They should get rid of the "flared straight" since I don't even know wtf that means
FLARED PUNCHES, ARE USUALLY WHEN THEY TAIL OFF KNUCKLES OUTWARD AT THE END OF THE PUNCH, OR WHEN COMPENSATING A CHANGE IN RANGE...A FLARED JAB AND HOOK ARE COMMON, BUT A FLARED STRAIGHT IS SORT OF ODD AND SOMETHING I NEVER SEEN OR EVEN CONCEIVED OF...I WOULD THINK IT WOULD LEAVE YOU OPEN TO A COUNTER IN REALITY...ALOT OF RUSSIAN BOXERS USE FLARES IN THEIR PUNCHES, BUT THE CALL IT CASTING...

I NOTICED THE SIGNATURE PUNCHES ARE GONE TOO.

^^signature punches were always whack and pretty useless so I'm glad there gone.

Next time that happens, try pushing them off you with L2. So block a little bit, let them get in then push L2 and you'll use your forearm/elbow to push them off. That will give you a little space and more importantly a little time. And just move away after that. You can also clinch but you gotta be careful and time it perfectly. So for example if they throw a punch and it misses immediately clinch. If you clinch and you're reaching and they nail you it's lights out lol.

I'm gonna put some more time in this but so far I kinda like the demo. Some things seem stiff, but thats because I'm still green and don't know what the hell I'm doing.
yeah it's challenging for me too and I was a pro at round 4. I actually like they change shit up so much that you have to re-lean a lot of things, unlike Madden where EVERYTHING is the same each game.

Demo is impressive. Can't wait until the actual game comes out. Was going to get it regardless...been on this franchise since Knockout Kings on the Playstation, but this one so far seems much better than Round 4.

I need to step my analog game up! Been using Configuration 5, and I think in Champion I'm going to be losing out by sticking with the X,Y,B,A buttons for punching.

Man, I got laid out with one punch by Tyson on a counter left hook and I didn't even have the option to try and get up which sucked but it was pretty tight at the same time.

I've gotten better with Ali now too and Pacquiao is more realistic on this one. He wasn't anywhere near as good as he is on this version. REally fun to play with on Champion. For some reason, it's really a lot of fun beating up on Cotto
