"Everyone states, "Well, he ran behind a great OL!" as the reason he has the record. They say Troy, Irvin, Novacek, etc were a large part.
Well, let's take a look at his stats from 1996-2002, the span of time since he was last part of a dominant team. Do also recall that during this span he wasn't the same player he was earlier in his career due to age, injuries, etc...anyhow...
Emmitt has played in 100 games from 1996-2002.
He has rushed for 7787 yards and 54 Touchdowns in that span.
Broken down, that is 77.87 yards per game, and .54 rushing touchdowns per game.
In his career, Emmitt has played in 193 ballgames.
So, let's say that he played his entire career with that average (as opposed to the 96 yards per game he had from 1990-1995), just so we could see what his stats could have looked like without the "dominant" offensive line, the dynasty team, etc.
At that average, in the 193 games he has played in, he would have 15,028 yards and 104 rushing touchdowns right now.
So, take away all those years under the great teams, and replace them with averages based on the Emmitt from 1996-2002, and those are your numbers.
Phenominal.
This dispells any theory he was only dominant because of an OL. Not to mention, remember, Emmitt's talent level is not what it was back in the early 90s. His best years talent-wise came when he had the best personnel surrounding him.
Yeah, it was all the OL. Uh huh.
Emmitt was 27 in 1996. Those are the projected stats for what the guy has accomplished from ages 27-33. Again, amazing."
