One chooses to suffer because they want to. No one is chaining those Detroit residents down. They have the ability to move, if they build up the courage to do so. Sure it's so sad and unfortunate to have to move from your city if you love it, but if these are the conditions, I say there's no choice and the smart option is to move.


There's no real excuse. Immigrants come to this country all the time with NOTHING, from places worse than Detroit.

Fuck that lol. I see why some say that but I'm kinda annoyed on how its officially became the spot in the nation that people think its cool to point out how crappy it is. Detroit is legendary in so many ways its incredible. I've lived in Flint, Detroit, Muskegon and Grand Rapids and its not all pretty but people still got hope and dignity. For good reason too.
Obviously I'm blessed to currently live in a globally admired spot like CA but Michigan has a lot to offer. Don't throw it under the boat yet.

All depends on who you ask. One of my boys is from Detroit and he said he will never go back. Yes it's legendary for things it did decades ago, like Motown, Ford, etc. etc. But all that is gone now.

If you're born into extreme poverty in east detroit and there are no jobs for you & no education what do you expect thousands of people to do? It's much easier said than done.

I do agree that Detroit has some horrible hoods but its not a total waste.

I got family all over Michigan and unfortunately there's quite a few cities that look like they're war torn. @BooBoo, it's not as easy as you make it sound. My family living in poverty out there right now did get up and move out of Detroit and with their low education and therefore lack of landing a decent job, you know where they moved to? Fucking Flint and Grand Rapids. Grand Rapids is a step up but still a shit hole and Flint might even be a step down depending on who you ask. I've been to all 3 and I'd say Flint was the most depressing of them all. Fuck, I feel sorry for all my family back east except my fam in Chicago, but one things for sure, they're proud as fuck of being from there.

Absolutely. I agree with you 100%. The government needs to stop blowing money to rebuild places like Iraq (which they destroyed in the first place), and send that shit to help out places like Detroit.

I was JUST in Detroit. I stayed in Flint for a week too. The East side is grimey as fuck. I shot some video there for my DVD and then ate An Coney Time on East 7 Mile Rd. Ghetto fab.
