I was given an Idea for my video production class, to make a 30 minute documentary on why gangs are needed in America. With the right amount of help from the government, with the right amount of leaders, I think gangs can do a whole lot of positive things for a particular community, and on a nation wide scale, can do alot.
Look at the Vice Lords in Chicago, helped created centers for teens to study and do well in school and away from streets. Provided protections in their hood, provided homes for the homeless in their Center. They had power, not the negative type of power that a power hungry man would abuse, but rather the power to make something positive out of their existence and beginning. After all, they started off as a violence Gang from the West Side of Chi-town, mugging and robbing people. Then one day Edward Perry, had enough, he wanted to make a change of scenery and the reputation of the Vice Lords. Mine you that this was also during the civil rights movement.
With the power, the were able to do good for the neighborhood and kids, but as always "white" America, couldn't stand the men of colors to progress in this country, so what happened? They took away the funds for their centers. They passed laws to stop the Vice Lords, in case they became a super Organized Crime Mob, which they didn't, but eventually did, later to come. As the financial status diminished, and as the Vice Lords became frustrated, they resorted to crime to get what they wanted, eventually leading them back down the road where they once came from. The West Side of Chicago, is just as worse as it was, if not better or worse, then when the Vice Lords were first organized. Imagine, what good would have came out of their Positive movement, if the Government allowed their gang to continue.
I wanted to add more, but I'll add more later, continuing with my town's situation, and why Nortenos, Bloods, and Crips, helped prevent the whites from controlling the south side. Why, today's generation, doesn't go coincide with their Struggle. More to come....dun dun dun
