David Haye: Klitschko is Boxing's Borat!

By Nick Parkinson, courtesy of The Daily Star

DAVID HAYE has compared heavyweight rival Wladimir Klitschko to mankini-wearing comedy creation Borat and finds it hard to take him seriously.

David Haye flies to Miami tomorrow to begin training for his showdown with Klitschko, which is set to take place at a German football stadium on either June 25 or July 2.

Haye, 30, has craved a fight against rival world heavyweight champion Klitschko for more than two years and the pair have regularly swapped insults.

But the WBA heavyweight champion finds Klitschko a figure of fun, claiming the 34-year-old is like the character Borat, played by comedian Sacha Baron Cohen.

But the Londoner has also slammed Ukrainian Klitschko as a “boring” world heavyweight champion.

He said: “We are different personalities and Wladimir is one of the most boring world heavyweight champions ever.

“You associate heavyweight champions with big personalities and charisma like Ali, Frazier, Holyfield, Tyson and even Buster Douglas and George Foreman.

“You can’t remember any decent quotes or sayings Wladimir has said other than ‘I’m going to break you’, like you hear in a Rocky film. Then he goes out and gives a boring performance.

“He reminds me of Borat. Wladimir is Ukrainian, but he was born in Kazakhstan where Borat is from and sounds just like Borat when he says, ‘Nice to meet you’ in a funny English accent.

“I know my Ukrainian or German wouldn’t be very good either, but he is definitely the Borat of boxing.

“I remember watching the movie and thinking he sounds just like Wladimir. It’s hard to take him seriously now.

“I wouldn’t be surprised to hear he wears a mankini on holiday.”

Haye was set to face Wladimir in June 2009 but was forced to pull out two weeks before the fight with a back injury.

The Hayemaker left Wladimir and his elder brother Vitali – who holds the WBC version of the world title – furious when he turned up to a press conference wearing a T-shirt showing himself holding their decapitated heads.

And Haye is promising more wind-up tactics to enrage Klitschko before they get it on this summer.

He said: “I’m going to get under his skin. There are ways to beat Wladimir that have never been tried before.”

David Haye was talking at the launch of EA SPORTS Fight Night Champion.

Sanders got KTFO by Vitali later on, but Sanders rocked Vitali early on. It's the only time in Vitali's career that he was hurt that I can think of, besides Lennox.

Something about Sanders lol he just knew how to land on the Klits:

forward to 7:00

Sanders wasn't all that bad though, he did KO Bert Cooper in 3 rounds, so dude had some power. Limited skills of course.

I don't know, I don't really think so. Wlad was really chinny back then (he was KO'd by Lamon Brewster shortly after as well) and I think he's improved a great deal since then. He's just an all around better fighter from 2003.

But yeah I still think you have to test his chin. I don't think one can every truly "fix" a weak chin, you can improve it, you can learn tactics to avoid getting hit, etc., but at the end of the day, his chin is still his weak spot, imo.

As for Vitali, he's proven he has one of the best chins probably of all time. I think you have to out-box him. Totally the opposite of Wlad. Wlad you gotta be very physical, get inside, make him uncomfortable, test his chin. Vitali is 39 and has slown down a bit, I think he can be out-boxed. I think Solis will show us that. He'll probably lose but I think he's going to show that Vitali can be beat right now.

David Haye: It's Been Confirmed, I'm Going To Fight Wladimir

WBA heavyweight champion David Haye says that Wladimir Klitschko has been passed fit for their unification bout later this year.

The Londoner is set to face IBF and WBO holder Klitschko on June 25 or July 2, but there was a doubt over whether the Ukrainian's brother Vitali would step in as Wladimir was suffering with a stomach injury that saw him pull out of a bout with Dereck Chisora.

But Haye told BBC Five Live: "I should know the date in the next couple of weeks, I know it's Wladimir I am fighting, he is fit to fight and ready to go."

Haye also revealed the fight is likely to take place in Germany, stadiums in Dortmund, Gelsenkirchen and Kaiserslautern have been considered, but that he does not care where the bout takes place.

"It doesn't bother me," he said. "I haven't been pressing them for a venue, as long as I know I am fighting at the end of June or start of July I am happy.

"I have heard people talking about crazy places all over the world, but I'm anticipating the fight to be in Germany."

It's amazing how much hype this fight is getting.
There was a time when the HW division was where it was at. Plenty of fighters and the rankings were all stacked and competitive. Every fight meant something.

Lately, it's been a blow out and pretty washed up. The minute we have a decent fight, then entire world is all over it. Feels good to have a big HW showdown happen again.

For sure. Haye is exciting, extremely fast, powerful, uber confident/cocky. Not much not to like about this match.

I'm sure this is how it felt when Joe Louis was dominating the division for so long (1937 to 1949) beating bum after bum after bum ("Bum of the Month Club" was what they referred to his long stretch of title defenses as). Outside of his fights, no one really cared about anyone else in the division during when he was dominating. Not until he fought Billy Conn and Jersey Joe Walcott did anyone ever think anyone posed a threat to him, so I would have imagined that was a pretty boring time for Heavyweight boxing. There have been a number of other stretches as well.

Outside of a few guys like Mike Tyson & holyfield, I always thought the heavyweight division was overrated. Besides the Ali era the best have always fought in the smaller weight classes.

Even when we had fighters like Chris Byrd, Fres Oquendo (before the decline), etc.
Plus cracking jokes about John Ruiz was always fun. When we thought it couldn't get worse, it did.

I used to follow Malik Scott

He just stopped fighting (don't know why) without even being tested.
Never figured out what happened to that guy. Thought he had potential at 6'4 and decent reach.

Scott was fairly unentertaining. Every now and then he comes out with a video/article talking about how he'll stomp [insert undefeated heavyweight prospect or champion here] and then disappears again.

Yeah it's a sad state right now. I really hope Deonty Wilder turns out to be something because at 6'7 all muscle he certainly LOOKS the part of a modern heavyweight champ.

And I'll always believe in Tye Fields of course :)
I like Wilder and I hope he does well. I'd like to see him in there with "tougher" journeymen I don't know how much he's learning from the guys he's fighting even though I heard he was dropped hard by Sconiers.

What's funny about the whole Klitschkos scenario is that if they weren't around the heavyweight division would be considered exciting and competitive. They're so much better than everyone else that it makes the entire division look like complete garbage.

I've said it before but I think the brothers are going to be remembered favorably throughout history, especially Wlad.

Ya, I've seen them.
That's what I mean. Good record, talks a good game, but he just isn't active. Maybe he is being ducked. Not because of his record, but because nobody knows who he is.

I think he's entertaining though. I like that Chris Byrd style.
