DANA WHITE IS ALWAYS TALKING SOME SORT OF NONSENSE....MY OPINION IS THAT THEY ARE TWO DIFFERENT SPORTS....YOU GOTTA APPRECIATE BOTH. I KNOW I DO.
Exactly, I prefer MMA but I do enjoy boxing as well. It's all nice when a brutal KO happens in an MMA fight but not many if any at all posses the beautiful striking skills you can see from a boxing match.

I don't think Dana is criticizing boxing as a sport, as much as he is criticizing the way that the movers & shakers in boxing are running the sport.

People don't know that Dana started off his career in the fight game in boxing. He was a boxing writer in boxing for a while, and even owned a boxing gym and managed boxers.

I agree with a lot of what he says about boxing's bullshit politics getting in the way of the best fighting the best. Look at the Mayweather-Pacquiao fiasco.

There never will be striking on the level of boxing in MMA because if they're that good then they'll be in boxing where the money is. Plus the reason striking in boxing is so high is because it's the only aspect of the sport and it allows you to excel at that one aspect at it's highest level. Plus boxing has been around longer and boxers are better at their sport than mixed martial artist are at theirs.

I agree, and like I said I believe years down the road you will see the skills of the GSP's and Anderson Silva's on the average but no one has perfected that as of yet.

Same goes for all aspects of MMA, there are some top level BJJ guys, world champions that that have had trouble in MMA. The same with wrestlers. you can be a top boxer, BJJ guy, wrestler, but the only thing matters is how you put all of it together because that is the only way to have long success in MMA.

Because of all the different aspects it is somewhat hard to be 100% at all of them, that is why the majority of MMA fighters are very good at one. Just like a boxer is good at boxing because that is all he trains just like a good wrestler because that is all he has trained.

The biggest difference I see is that there are a lot of fundamentals in boxing that don't transfer over to MMA. The way you stand to the way you duck, weave, shoulder roll and so on. Those same moves can leave you flat when your opponent can kick, knee, and take you down.

I'm a fan of boxing but not one aspect of MMA completely transfers over. You have to be able to adapt an MMA version of your current skill. A wrestler has to be careful because when they rush for a takedown they can get hit with a knee, uppercut etc; and not too many BJJ guys have practiced BJJ their whole life while being punched in the face.

I didn't even watch this video but judgeing from the title and peoples reaction i know dana was just goin on one talkin shit like his bitchass always does.. But to be completely honest i used to be a huge boxing fan, i mean i would watch friday night fights on espn religously every week on top of pay per view fights! But when mma started becoming popular i was hooked..and the number one reason is knockouts! Everybody loves em and you just see them more often in the ufc! I can appreciate boxing as a sport but i can understand why younger audiences would rather not sit through 12 rounds of dudes punchin each other and never hitting the canvas, when they can see a dude get knocked the fuck out in less then 5 mins.. just my 2 cents

UFC boss Dana White ran into Floyd Mayweather at the Hard Rock in Vegas.

“When’s this fight gonna happen?” asked White referring to the prospect of Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao.

“What do you care?” said Mayweather. “You got the UFC.”

“I’m a boxing fan,” said White, who is, in fact, a boxing fan, and from way back.

“Well, I’m not desperate,” sneered Mayweather.

Desperate? Who said anything about desperate?

Nice read 206. I think it hit's on a lot of points on why boxing is having slight trouble these days and as much as DW can be a controlling ass he manages to put on good fights the majority of the time and on a consistent basis.

I still think there are way too many orgs/promotions in boxing and that it takes away from the significant of a belt, but like I have said I do not get a chance to follow boxing hardcore. What are your thoughts on this my hardcore Boxing fans?

I think everyone will agree there are too many organizations in boxing and on top of that, most of them are pretty corrupt.

Obviously having four major belts in one weight class makes the term "world champion" mean a lot less. So unfortunately at any given time, you could have four different world champions in one weight division. On top of that, you can have retarded shit like "Super Champion," Interm Champ and Silver or Gold Champion by equally retarded organizations like the WBC who give out belts so they can collect their fees.

This is why I think many hardcore fans, myself included, give more props to the guys who win The Ring belts, which are typically lineal belts and you can only get it by "beating the man who beat the man" etc., and to those guys who try to unify the belts. In the end though I don't think fans care about belts, they just want to see the biggest names and the best guys fight. I mean who remembers what belt was on the line when Sugar Ray Leonard fought Duran?

Boxing problems go on and on and on. For the most part though, the fights people want made eventually happen. I don't think this Floyd/Pac is very typical, I mean most anyone would do anything for that kind of money and it takes a very special type of pussy to turn down $50 million dollars for one fight. Although things like this have obviously happened before to a lesser extent (Roy Jones and Bernard Hopkins not fighting again for 17 years is a good example of that).

On one hand it would be nice have a Dana White in boxing, that is to say if all the four major bodies were merged into one organization and controlled by one guy. However on the other hand there are a lot of negative things that would arise from that as well.

I've always disagreed on the "too many" sanctioning bodies/promotions whatever you wanna call them. There's at the most 4 belts that mean anything and one just started meaning something up until a little while ago and then there's a bunch of meaningless titles that offer nothing but moving a fighter up in ranking in whatever sanctioning body he holds that meaningless title in (i.e. we might look at the WBC CIS and Slovenian Boxing Bureau (CISBB) welterweight title, yes it exists, it serves its purpose to get said fighter into an actual title fight).

It also helps creates amazing interest in fights. Look at all the excitement in the 140lb division with multiple high level, young, and star potential in the division. Of course a lineal champ trumps all the belts but the road to the lineal championship is usually hyped up and exciting by unification fights etc.

The belts lose their meaning when you lose the option of unification or an inability to make fights with the best in the division. A "UFC" type situation would never work in boxing and would only cause problems. One promotion CAN NOT hold every top boxer because it's far too worldwide and there's far too many boxers to make this something realistic. Also having promotional belts would also be a catastrophe in boxing for obvious reasons.

That's the end of my rant but that's always been my opinion on this.
