I find most of the posting interesting and insightful. First and foremost, this isn't white on black crime. This was an officer who pulled out a gun for his saftey and the saftey for others around. Now, new reports have surfaced stating "he wasn't handcuff". This man has criminal history with the city of hayward..but i agree that doesn't give a right to shoot him.

We just elected a "black president"..do people in this world honestly believe that this stuff really happens. I personally think that people put themselves in certain situations and then get mad when something bad happens.

Did anyone in the Berkeley area get upset when a 'black officer" killed a "black woman"???? Oh wait, the new failed to report toxicology showed cociane and herion in her system.

I think people shouldn't always believe what the news reports. They attempt to be bias but are not. Just becuase there is video..doesn't prove someone is right or wrong. We do not know the situation the lead up to that moment or what was acutally being said. Of course of his family and friends are going to be heartbroken and saddened by this and get angry.

All im saying it just look at it from the other side. And the people who "don't like or hate cops"..please don't call 911 when u need them..let someone else who respects and honors them..recieve their help and not you.

Reminds me of that Chappelle show episode, where he shows the difference between a white guy getting arrested and a black guy getting arrested.

If ANYONE shoots someone and there is hard video evidence, s/he is locked up until they perform an investigation. the fact that this mother fucker is sitting at home pending an investigation is bullshit. after watching the video im fucking disgusted. absolutely NO reason for that shit. BART Shooting Protest Turns Violent
Wednesday, January 7, 2009 – updated: 7:52 pm PST January 7, 2009

OAKLAND, Calif. -- A march protesting the slaying of young Oakland father at the Fruitvale BART station early New Year's Day became violent Wednesday evening as a group of marchers attacked a police and lit a dumpster on fire.

Several people gathered at the Fruitvale Bay Area Rapid Transit station Wednesday afternoon for a rally to protest the shooting death of Oscar Grant III at the hands of a transit agency police officer at the station early Jan. 1.

For safety reasons, BART trains are bypassing the Fruitvale station while the protest continues. Organizers said the rally was planned to last until 8 p.m., but by 5:30 a substantial portion of the rally spontaneously started marching through the streets of Oakland towards downtown.

While the majority of the marchers were well behaved, just after 6:30 p.m. a splinter group of protestors started causing trouble at the intersection of 8th Street and Madison not far from the Lake Merritt BART station.

A fire was lit in a dumpster on wheels that was rolled into the middle of the street and swarmed a police car that was nearly tipped over as the angry protestors beat on the vehicle with sticks and rocked it violently back and forth.

Oakland police responded in riot gear, shooting tear gas and approaching the crowd with shields, helmets and batons drawn to force them to disperse. The Oakland Fire Department was quickly able to put out the dumpster fire without event. Police proceeded to close down streets, halting northbound traffic on Broadway as protestors moved to that street.

NewsChopper2 footage of the area showed police pursuing individuals from the group that was causing problems. At last report, a group of 70 to 80 marchers was continuing up Broadway towards Oakland City Hall. So far, there are no reports on the number of arrests made or injuries.

the one thing that can come from this riot is some more press. it's fucked up how little attention this got outside of california. if it was a white person who was handcuffed to the ground face down, then shot in the back by police, this would've been on the front of every major newspaper. but only now is it only getting national and worldwide attention after the riot.

Anaheim Police Shoot, Kill Man Pulled Over for Traffic Stop

ANAHEIM -- Police shot to death a man who had been pulled over for a traffic stop at a 7-Eleven parking lot in Anaheim early Thursday morning.

The man's compact was pulled over by Anaheim police in the parking lot of the convenience store at Brookhurst Street and Orange Avenue shortly after 12:10 a.m., said Anaheim police Sgt. Rick Martinez. The reason for the traffic stop was not immediately released.

Roughly 12 minutes later, an officer-involved shooting occurred, Martinez said. His vehicle appeared to have been riddled with bullets, a camera crew reported.

The man was declared dead shortly after arriving at UC Irvine Medical Center, Martinez said. His name was withheld pending notification of the family.

Martinez said what triggered the shooting was under investigation.

"We believe he was armed with a handgun," Martinez said, adding that the weapon was recovered "either in, or near the vehicle."

Martinez said it was not immediately known whether the man fired the weapon at police, but no officers were hurt.

Anaheim police detectives and Orange County District Attorney investigators were summoned to the scene to investigate the shooting.
