I read earlier that people didnt think this album had some bay area flavor to it. Maybe Im trippin but I thought "Northern California," "The Hardway" "The Pop Off" "Lavishness" "Real Playaz" "Sav Boyz" "What You Made Me Do" and "Gangsta Touch" all seemed to have some bay area flavored beats. I think just cause and artist wants to expand and do different beats and different flows doesnt mean he lost it or his shit is wack, a lot of people DISS anything new because it aint what they like, like theres only one style of bay area music and only one flow Quinn should stick with. Quinn kept his hard spit style on "The Hardway" and "Deep End" and "High Light" but experimented with a slower flow on songs like "Thugs." He did the gangsta shit on "Mask Cracked" and "Goin all Out," while he did the shit for the hoes on "Butterfly" and "Lavishness" and the family orienented and religious shit on "Greatness" and "Daddy song."
I think this album is Quinns most well rounded yet. "Live N Direct" was heated but I feel like Quinns flow was a little too undeveloped compared to where he went on his next albums. "The Hustle Continues" was also heated but I feel like some of the beats seem outdated now and theres quite a few songs I skip toward the end of the album. Explosive Mode was nice all around but I think Quinn is a better rapper than Mess, and its not really a solo. "The Mighty Quinn" was very underrated and didnt get much attention. I liked it a lot but felt that it seemed like Quinn was doin a lot of songs just for the radio appeal and wasnt really spittin about the street shit that made him more popular. Now hes a more polished MC, the beats slam all the way through (regardless of being a fan of the 'chipmonk' style or other east coast styles you have to give Tone Capone PROPS for those beats) and hes rappin about damn near everything. Not just that, but IMO I think the only song that seemed made for the radio was Butterfly, and the radio has been pickin up other tracks on its own. Everyone I talked to in person was feelin this, when Im out of town I had people stoppin me at parties and askin "whose cd is this" and yesterday someone asked me to pull over at a light so they could write down the name of the cd. I think this is a great cd and to call it "wack" is definitely an insult to Quinn.
