MY WORDS EXACTLY. thank you!! haha. this album is tight, there's no doubt about it, if u think it's weak then u might not have the album!!! or u aren't as open to hearing new sounds or something. it fuckin amazes me when people talk down on albums like "i give u my word" or "breakin news". for the most part pretty much everyone was feelin i give u my word but there's always people who say fuck no that shit was weak. people are stuck in the past though especially on this board. some people on this board that have been posting for a while haven't even heard songs like hyphee or 16's wit me. lol. those are the same people that say the bay is weak and how it was sooooo much better in the mid 90's.
Real talk. It's like Chuck D. once said, "if someone comes along and starts complaining about Rap 'not being what it used to be', it may be a sign of THAT PERSON getting old," not that the music is necessarily any worse than before. Music reflects the times in which it comes out.

Everybody tends to idealize whatever period they first discovered this-or-that music or artist, because that's what they "know" and that's what they're comfortable with--i.e., some folks who came of age, say, during the early '90s will say that THAT period of Rap (or Rock, or movies, or whatever) was the "best," because that's the period they "grew up with." But it's all a matter of opinion.

BTW--I like DISOBAYISH, too.

PEACE!

all this same shit comes up everytime some ppl dislike a cd that the majority of ppl on here like, cant some ppl just not like an album without being "stuck in the past" and shit like that.....i mean,i just think ppl are quick to judge others cats opinions just cause they may not like an album.how do you know that they arent up on new shit and arent stuck in the past? dont get me wrong,im not trying to talk shit, just wanted to play devil's advocate cause there are plenty of albums that ppl on here have liked that i wasnt feeling, and its not cause i compare them to past albums

Sure. I feel what you're saying--I look at it like this: those who are stuck in the past know who they are, even if they won't admit it, as do those who attempt to stay up on newer shit as well. So, if the shoe doesn't fit, don't wear it, but if the shoe DOES fit, lace it up.

PEACE!

the quick answer is

fuck no

and i am in no way stuck in the past

fuck knows who keeps sayin that new Quinn is "something different" - maybe if all u know is Bay rap, but fareal, the beats on that Quinn are the same as what every other fucker all round the world is doing.

If it was something different maybe i would like it

All in all i think Quinn and Mess both dropped dissapointing albums

Fuck that Im stuck in the past a far as Bay music is concerned, because aint nothing mind blowing comin out the Bay no more. So this is no way near the best album to come out of the Bay. I know its been said a million times but truth be told, shit aint tight as it used to be and alot of cats feeling todays Bay shit was too young to appriciate the Golden Era. Theres no "Bay sound" like there used to be. A lot of albums today are just compiled of a bunch of cloned beats that are fashoined after Neptunes, Kanye, Lil Jon, etc. No originality, no individuality, no classics any time soon. Theres hella potential though, and shit just needs to come back around again. Every year thats supposed to happen, but Im still listenin to shit from 94. Where is the Bay at?

My little cousin likes the new Quinn album alot, I played him Quinn's "Live N Direct"... he thought it was wack.

This is a competitive game.....I think this is Quinn's best material to date. His style has been mastered to a perfect Quinn flow. People who say he was harder back then can't recognize growth as an mc. He was hard then.... a bit more angry on the mic..but that was when niggas spit angry always he was 17 then. We was all angry niggas at 17. My nigga has grown and got other things on his mind. Life changes and flow and style progress with the person. One of the best cd's outa of the bay in a long time. Glad it was quinn. Everyone has been waiting for this one for so long. Wanting to hear the niggas voice on back to back tracks. me myself..I was getting tired of all the same bay shit...40's tight as shit..one of the best in the world..but is that all we had to look forward to 2ice a year in the bay is wait for 40's new shit. New niggas don't get a good chance out here..so quinn was in the best position to do so. He did his shit too. So I think people in the bay expect too much always from a human being..and alot of people out here just will never be satisfied with anything out of any coast. But ask them can they do better?

Quinn's wordplay/topics might be more developed nowadays, but to me his old style is the best.

Back in the day his voice/delivery couldn't be touched, I personally prefer the deeper voice, more agressive flow from the golden era.

Nickpro you hit it right on, Quinns style back in the day was way tighter to me, i use to get chills when i heard a verse from him, like on that song "how low can you go", theres was what 4 or 5 other people on the track and quinn easily came the tightest. it seemed like his flow came natural back then, he rapped fast and didnt struggle doing it.

The only thing if anything that better about his style now is hes more clear with his words, its easier to understand what hes sayen.

Aright, its a little early to call this the best album to come out the bay ever, but without a doubt I Give You My Word is a classic, the lyrics and production slap all the way through. I don't think there is one song on there I dont like. Its gotten some good radio play up in the bay, and I think when the distribution finally comes around it will sell well. What are your thoughts on Quinn's album being the BEST cd to come out the bay?

really simple answer to that, NO. This album doesn't touch Messy's turf politics, nor does it touch quinn and marv's explosive mode.

not to mention RBL's ruthless by law album. It's a good album, no lie, but it ain't the best ever, no way

u guys amaze me!!! lol

clownin i give u my word!!!?

it has 18 songs!!!!!!!! turf politics had 10 actual songs.

numbers 1-6 on i give u my word kill 95% of all albums put out this year! that's not even talking about 7-18. give credit when it's due! just cuz u didn't think it lived up to the hype or whatever doesn't mean it's a bad album by any means.

its a solid album, but far from the best ever out the bay. I can think of many many many better ones. It is definately up in the ranking but like someone said, if it stands the test of time and becomes a classic, we'll have to wait and see.

and honestly, i liked quins older shit much better. yall remember that song he had on doja click? "415-209"? he ripped that track to shreds, or that "this is what we known for"?? right theres some classics. shits murda.......
