XPanther, no disrespect, but in that post where you said you were afraid of getting out of your car in the city you now live in hoods...c'mon, dude. Me personally, I'll go wherever the fuck I want and I ain't afraid of any neighborhood. Ofcourse I ain't just gonna start shit with fools in every neighborhood I go to, but being afraid to get out the ride is nonsense.

I've been to alot of cities, and not one hood has had me to scared to park my car, stop at a light, or take a stroll there if I wanted. Doesn't matter where you go, sometimes cats want to talk shit, but MAJORITY of the time, noone starts shit no matter where it's at unless you give them a reason.
There is no shame in saying that you have been scared in certain situations. When you are away from your city, you are on someone else's turf. If something goes down, you can't call anyone. Its a one on how ever many situation regadless.

Ill tell you what, I used to think I was a go anywhere and not trip type of cat until I found myself in Camden NJ on one occasion and a ghetto in Mexico in another. In both situations if I hadn't been in a car I was done for. Fools took one look at me, realized I wasn't from around the area and came straight at my car.

My homie that went to Rio De Janeiro said that as a white person there are places in the city that there is a 100% chance of you being jacked or killed if you venture into the area.

I'm not saying he should be ashamed or anything, All I'm saying is I'm not like that. Maybe it's just how I am, I've always been the type to do as I please. Not saying that shit hasn't happened to me in some of those circumstances, but I'm not going to let fear stop me from going where I want. Okay, if it was like Iraq or some shit, yeah, I'd think twice about getting out of the ride or going there period.

I think I already told dude that I actually understood his point, though. And with the rio dfejaniero thing, yeah I could see being worried about some areas in other countries, day or night. I guess I should've been more specific. I been in Mid-City L.A.(South central), Compton, E. LA, Pco-Union, to name a few spots, and only once did I get fools trippin', and that was at night when I was visiting a co-worker from when I worked in Long Beach. After I explained myself to the cats, they were cool. Now, I don't care about per capita talk,South Central LA is one of the worst areas to be a chicano driving or walking in a black gang-related neighborhood, and I admit, I was a bit nervous 'cause it wasn't an area I was familiar with and the dudes was big as fuck, I was 5'8'' 190lbs at the time, but I didn't act like a punk and beg for mercy or run. All I did was let them know who I was visiting and they gave me a pass...everybody around the block knows each other and I guess I was also lucky that the guy I was going to kick it with was the brother of one of their homies.

Seattle's gang activity increases

09:33 AM PDT on Monday, June 11, 2007

Associated Press

SEATTLE - Gang-related violence here appears to be on the rise with a recent surge in drive-by shootings and assaults, authorities say.

Such violence had been decreasing in recent years, with caseloads for gang investigators hitting 150 in 2003, then fewer than 100 in 2005. But caseloads began to climb again last year, with many reports of gang violence concentrated in Seattle's Central District, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer reported Monday.

"I think we're gonna find it's going to be a busy summer," Seattle police Gang Unit supervisor Lt. Ron Wilson said. "I think it's picking up now."

On Friday, Seattle police swarmed Westlake Center after a reported shooting. Four young people were arrested and officers found a large revolver.

Police wouldn't say the shooting was gang-related, but Gang Unit Sgt. Jim Dyment said at least one of those detained frequented a Central area hangout popular with one gang.

Last month, local and federal law enforcement arrested nearly 50 men on various drug charges. Many of them were alleged gang members.

Contributing to the rise in gang violence is the release from prison of older gangsters looking to reassert their authority. Also, there are fights over drug turf or groups trying to settle disputes.

Seattle's gang unit was formed in the 1980s, and at one time included more than 25 detectives to deal with the wealth of gang activity. Now it has just six detectives and a sergeant.

To give the unit's officers more time on the streets, homicide detectives have been tapped to follow up on cases that would normally bog down gang detectives.

"It's giving us ample time to hit the streets and be more visible," said Detective Miko Santiago, a former Army military policeman and 12-year veteran of the Gang Unit.

Recent shootings seem to be part of an ongoing feud between two rival gangs in the Central area, authorities said.

"You got in-house fighting going," said Gabe Morales, an expert on local gangs. "That's what's going on these last few months in the Central District."

Gang violence and shootings have been an unfortunate part of the neighborhood for several years, said Gene Rivers, an artist who has lived most of his 62 years in the area.

"I couldn't say if it's gotten worse," he said. "I'm sure of one thing, it hasn't gotten better."

Black community leaders have also come forward, in part because much of the violence involves young black men.

"We need law enforcement, but this is an issue that the black community will have to solve," said the Rev. Harriet Walden, who since 1999 has highlighted the issue of black on black crime through her Web site, silentwar.org. "It's imperative that we let our young people know that being part of a gang, using violence, is not OK."

Yep I'd agree with that.

This is all you need to know about these two places. Out of the 51 metro areas with populations over 1 million people, the two cities I've called home this year are at literally the opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to black-white polarization.

Milwaukee, Wisconsin #1 nationally in Black-White Polarization
- Black people (who are 15% of the metro, 45% of the city) experience extreme segregation and earn 45% of the income of white folks

Seattle, Washington #51 nationally in Black-White Polarization
- Black people (who are 5% of the metro, 9% of the city) experience moderate segregation and earn 67% of the income of white folks

* If anybody is curious about where these two places or any others stand in any of the other variables (education, employment, poverty, suburbanization) used to compute the Polarization Index, let me know.

Yes he is.

So are Baby Drew, Ice Mone, Pimpin Ken, Godxilla, Big Hank & Reesco.

This city has talent, just like Seattle has talent, very different vibes though, very different types of music.
