Pavlik the drama queen?? Not a good look if he pulls out days before a scheduled fight. He should realize he hasn't done sh!t the last couple of years and is lucky to be in the spot he's in right now (a chance at Bute if he wins) despite being in rehab, etc. smh.

Pavlik Threatening to pull out of Saturdays fight due to dispute with Top Rank

Kelly Pavlik has threatened to pull out of Saturday's fight against Darryl Cunningham over the offer he received to face IBF super middleweight titleholder Lucian Bute in his next fight, RingTV.com has learned.

A source familiar with the negotiations said Pavlik (36-2, 32 knockouts) is upset because he has been offered far less by his promotion frim, Top Rank, than Mikkel Kessler was offered to face Bute. Kessler turned down the offer.

"Kelly had heard that Kessler was being offered something like $3.5 million, and that he turned that down. So Kelly wasn't really happy with the $1.1 million that Top Rank was offering him," the source said on Tuesday, speaking on the condition of anonymity.

"So I would say that right now, I don't think that (Saturday's) fight's going to happen. Unless, of course, Top Rank comes back with something (better)."

Pavlik, the former middleweight champion, pulled out of a fight with Paul Williams last year because of a staph infection in his hand.

"This had nothing to do with an injury," the source said.

Showtime is scheduled to televise the Pavlik-Cunningham fight.

wow lost a lot of respect for Kelly. This was in his hometown, all his fans in Youngstown that bought tickets, what a prick.

Kelly Pavlik Withdraws From Darryl Cunningham Clash

YOUNGSTOWN – Former World Middleweight Champion and current World Boxing Council (WBC) No. 1-rated super middleweight contender KELLY “The Ghost” PAVLIK’s professional boxing comeback took a wrong turn inasmuch as Pavlik withdrew from his upcoming 10-round bout against Darryl Cunningham today. The Pavlik-Cunningham bout was scheduled to take place on Saturday at the Covelli Centre in Youngstown, OH, and was to be televised live on SHOWTIME® as the main event of a special edition of ShoBox: The New Generation. Both the broadcast and the live event have been canceled. Ticketholders can get a refund by returning their tickets to the place of purchase.

“Top Rank is very disappointed at Kelly’s sudden decision to discontinue the rebuilding of his boxing career,” said Todd duBoef, president of Top Rank, Pavlik’s promoter. “Kelly’s team specifically outlined a strategy for Kelly to return to the ring in an effective fashion. Kelly’s team gave us their objectives and we set them on a course, which began last May with Kelly’s fight against Alfonso Lopez and was to continue on Saturday against Darryl Cunningham. It seems Kelly has derailed this plan.”

Pavlik is done. But hey I don't know what I'm talking about. LOL.. Pavlik just needs a little drink or some coke like Hatton and he will be alright.

Pavlik clearly has some issues. I doubt its about the money, he's probably on the booze again. Apparently he was offered a 60/40 split with Bute, with a $1.3 million minimum (not total).

Either way, mentally he seems fucked up. He should focus on recovery and stay away from boxing

I saw on E360 that he was on not that long ago talking about how he stopped drinking but through the whole thing he kept insisting that he never had a problem and he wasn't addicted he just liked to drink etc. I don't think he ever actually completed one of his treatments.

This is a big time bitch move though. It's not like it's some random fight in Vegas, it's a fight in your hometown in front of the main people that support you..

Yep. And weeks ago there was a story that he got into a big fight with his brother and actually pulled his bro out of a glass window. He bailed when the cops came and his bro didn't press charges but apparently told the cops they were drinking which pavlik denied. Additionally he reportedly isn't on speaking terms with his own father so it looks like shit is real fucked up in his personal life. Cunningham said today in an interview that he had to ho through extensive medical tests on Monday which were completely out of the norm and he believes team pavlik was trying to see if they could get him not medically cleared to fight as if they were trying to find an excuse to cancel the fight.

that's the idea. If he beats Chagaev he will become Wlad's WBA mandatory.

That's a solid card too. It's in germany so I'll be able to stream that in the day before Guerrero-Maidana. Robert Helenius is on the undercard he had that nasty KO of sam peter in his last fight, he looks pretty good.

This would make the 3rd time Povetkin gets a mandatory against Wlad. His camp (Atlas) already turned down 2 fights with Wlad. Teddy Atlas, at least for the short term, has ruined his career. Not only did he put him in against scrubs he's gotten progressively worse in the ring all the while turning down big money fights against the heavyweight champion.

There's a reason Povetkin and his manager took this fight against Chagaev during a date where they know Teddy won't be able to be up there because of his commitment to FNF.

also update on Aug 19th card: Ruslan Provonikov injured himself in training and had to pull out. I believe the David Diaz vs Henry Lundy has been elevated to the main event and Demetrius Andrade vs TBA will be shown not sure who else.

too soon naner......

However, during his chat session today on ESPN, boxing scribe Dan Rafael announced that Atlas will be taking a leave of absence from FNF for the rest of the season to train Povetkin. Atlas will be replaced by middleweight contender Sergio Mora as FNF boxing analyst for the remainder of the season.

Mora will take over this Friday night alongside Joe Tessitore, while Atlas heads to Russia to prepare Povetkin for his title shot.
