In another news .. prospect Mikey Garcia beat the shit out of Cornelius Lock in an eliminator where he should be able to fight the winner of Gamboa/Salido. There's been a lot of hype on the kid, he's patient, has power, and can take a solid punch. He hurt Lock a million and one times and never get ahead of himself.

.. and Vazquez took Ji Hoon Kim to school on the same card to win a vacated title. Back to back wins over Prescott and now against Kim (who I really like watching btw) earned him a belt.

.. and just as a side note Golden Boy better be working their asses off to get Erislandy Lara or James Kirkland in the ring with K9. As much props as I give him for winning the title that belt is there to be taken and I'm sure there's gonna be a line of promoters trying to get their 154lbers in the ring with him.

special Wednesday Night fights this week. Couple good Cubans, Erislandy Lara vs. Willie Lee and Yordanis Despaigne vs. Frank Paines.

I wish they would bring back Wed night fights for good
The card's in Louisiana .. unfortunately it's in fucking Monroe which is like 4-5 hours away. I wish it was closer .. you'd figure New Orleans is enough of an event type of city to get some fights down here.

what's the goods on Yordanis Despaigne naner? I can't remember if I've seen him fight before or not but a quick boxrec shows he beat Tomaz Adamek & Jean Pascal in the olympics/amateurs, also lost to andre dirrell (11 to 12) and that good lookin Kazakhstani up & comer Gennady Golovkin

I'm sure you've seen him fight before. He fought Richard Hall on the main event of a FNF not too long ago (and took the fight on very short notice iirc) where he pitched a near shut out. I guess my only knock on him from the two fights I've seen of his so far is that he doesn't really seem like a killer. It seemed like he could put Hall away whenever he felt like it and just let it keep going knowing he was cleanly winning, which isn't really much of a problem I guess.

.. and on the subject of Golovkin that kid is a champion in the making. Look up his amateur fight with Lucien Bute if you haven't seen it where he straight up knocks Bute silly. His last fight on the Moreno/Cermeno II card (another pretty good fight btw) he straight up crushed Nunez in under a minute and was working his way to a violent KO if the referee hadn't stepped in.

Anyone watched boxing last night? Despaigne I don't think makes it as far as he should .. he just seems to lack killer instinct. He showed it against Hall, he showed it against Paines, and he's going to show it unfortunately against a higher level LHW who's gonna blow him away. IMO Despaigne could've had 2 KOs in his last 2 instead of 2 UD wins.

.. and I'm not much of a fan of stoppages like the one in the Lara fight. Lee's been around a while and has been in there with solid fighters. He blocked most of the punches at the end and really had only gotten caught with the uppercut. Why not at least say "you gotta show me something" or "punch back Lee" or anything. I don't think Lee had much of a chance of winning but it shouldn't be completely taken away from him because the fights perceived to be a mismatch.

Lee was definitely on his way out but I agree the ref should have gave him some more time.

Even though it was a real short, I think Lara showed a little bit of an inside game (albeit briefly) that he kinda lacked against Grady Brewer if my memory serves me correctly.

I missed the Despaigne fight, I read he knocked dude down in the second and could have finished him off so it sounds like your 100% right about him.

Yeah not sure how much I buy into that though. Brewer is far more crafty than Lee is and the fight didn't last very long.

.. there's a pretty good card on Saturday from Germany in case anyone feels like checking it out. Marco Huck defends against Matt Godfrey and undefeated heavyweight Robert Helenius fights another undefeated heavyweight Gregory Tony. It's probably the only card to really look forward to this weekend.

Anyone caught any of the fights this weekend? Marco Huck beat the shit out of Matt Godfrey over in Germany to hold onto his title. Dropped him 3 times in 5 rounds, twice in the 5th and was going for a 3rd before the ref stepped in to save Godfrey from the inevitable.

.. and Adamek boxed up Michael Grant in what seemed to be a "how would he do against big man" type fight and even though he won cleanly against I think the answer is not good. He was wobbled like a drunk by Grant who barely threw punches and even at the end of the first the announcers claimed it a tackle by Adamek to "prove he won't be bullied by the bigger man" but in the replay you can see an uppercut land clean on Adamek then he falls straight on Grant. He was also badly hurt in the 12th and if Grant had any kind of stamina/energy left he would've put him away.

Adamek has a nice little niche going where he can get some good paychecks for guys that are clearly past or the smaller heavyweights that he can outwork because of his crazy Polish fanbase in Poland, Chicago & Jersey. It seems like every Polish sports fan knows about Adamek and heavily supports him. I don't see him making it to the top unless he fights David Haye .. I think he should go against Tua next. Tua looked terrible against Barrett is still enough of a name and is actually ranked in some of the sanctioning body and it would be a good payday for both of them and probably an easy win for Adamek.

.. going to watch the FSE card with Rigondeaux sometime tonight.

I watched the Adamek fight and I agree with everything you said. He's like a rag doll against these big guys even big nipple was tossing him around the ring but if he wasn't so damn out of shape he probably would have knocked him out.

Also watched the Rigondeaux fight but wont spoil it for you.

I watched it and I wish they would've let Beranza roll through with the fight. I didn't see him taking an extremely bad beating and Beranza makes a career out of going the distance against top prospects and sometimes winning. He beat one of the undefeated Velazquez brothers that are hyped by GB and last month on tyc I saw him beat up a once beaten Argentinian ..

I like Rigondeaux .. he doesn't get over excited, his timing is excellent, and unlike a lot of sit back counter punchers he throws hard to the body with well placed counters.

I like Rigondeaux too, I think he's the best of the recent wave of Cubans by far, even though he's probably not as exciting as Gamboa. Also his body attack is beautiful. I've seen him knock down and knock out at least 3-4 people from body shots.

I heard from someone the rumor about Rigo is he has no inside game whatsoever, again that's just a rumor I heard with no real credibility.

I forgot who that rumor came from but it was from someone that sparred with him that said he'd tear Rigondeaux up in a fight cause he sparred with him and supposedly tore him up on the inside. I really don't care about what happens in sparring, people don't go 100% all the time and until I see it in the actual fight then I don't put much stock in it.
