Is that really a bad thing if boxing went back to ESPN, ABC, NBC, FOX? Bad for boxers getting huge paydays yeah, but bad for the sport?? I dunno, everyone talks about the good old days when title fights were live on regular TV before PPV and how great the sport was. Maybe that's what boxing needs

Castillo's purse to be withheld!

A Nevada Federal Judge today has granted an attachment in favor of Gary Shaw Productions and Diego Corrales’s Estate of up to $1,200,000 of any monies to be paid to Jose Luis Castillo. As a result, Castillo will receive $0 for Saturday's Ricky Hatton fight. Shaw and Corrales sued Castillo after he failed to make weight for their rubber match in June 2006. The case has not come to trial, but boxing attorney Judd Burstein was successful in having Castillo's purse held in escrow pending the resolution of the lawsuit.

Wow, that sucks. So Castillo will be fighting for $0.00 this saturday

Ok, nevermind!

Update: Castillo to be paid!

Friday, June 22 2007

Although a Nevada Federal Judge granted an attachment in favor of Gary Shaw Productions and Diego Corrales’s Estate of up to $1,200,000 of any monies to be paid to Jose Luis Castillo, also required was that a bond of equal monies be collected from Gary Shaw Productions and Diego Corrales’s Estate. The bond was not received and as a result Castillo will be paid.

Wow....
Rarely do I have a hard time picking a winner, but this one is a toss up for me.
I think it will come down to which fighter has better conditioning.
Right now it appears that Hatton has the youth advantage but you never know.... One thing is for sure, it's going to be a battle of attrition.
This fight has the potential to be another Castillo VS Corrales I.
I expect a war! Fight of the year? Maybe but at this point I'd give the fight of the year nod to Rafael Marquez VS Israel Vazquez....

Keys for Hatton, beat Castillo to the punch and stay busy (jab his way in).
Establish his body attack and as bitch made as it sounds, clinch on the inside!
Castillo is a great inside fighter and has a tremendous body attack.

Keys for Castillo, work the body!
Don't allow Hatton to dictate the pace of the fight on the inside.
Look for the uppercut! Castillo is a master of the uppercut and Hatton is wide open for uppercuts as he squares up to throw his body punches on the inside.

This is going to be a great fight!
I have my buddies coming over to watch this on my HD LCD and new hometheater surround sound system.
Too bad UFC Fight Night is on at the same time though!....

Ricky's pork pie and Guinness diet is gonna take its toll eventually. The question is whether that day is tomorrow. It's a clash of body punchers and I'm wondering if Hatton has bitten off more than he can chew. One thing's for sure though, it'll be a fierce, exciting fight that's gonna leave everyone yelling for more.

^^They both came in at 140 even. I dunno, Hatton may have cut back on the beers...he looks in pretty good shape too me.
I don't know what gives man.
But some fighters can drink and still whoop ass.
Take Ricardo Lopez for example, personally I think he's the best fighter of our generation. (but too little for anyone to notice his awsome fight skills)
The dude was just inducted into boxing's hall of fame along with Roberto Duran and Pernell Whitaker, just to give you some perspective of how good he was.

Well when my bro was training with him along with the Marquez brothers and everyone else in Nacho Berenstein's stable, my bro says that "El Finito" Lopez was a heavy drinker. I don't know how him and Hatton pull(ed) it off, but they do/did. I mean I stopped smoking and drinking because it was killing my conditioning. I just don't know how some pro fighters can pull it off....
