Pascal maybe. But Pascal has the same promoter as Stevenson and I'm sure HBO is still bitter so maybe not. After that just check down the list - #5 JUERGEN BRAEHMER, #6 CHAD DAWSON, #7 Tavoris Cloud, #9 ISAAC CHILEMBA, #10 ELEIDER ALVAREZ.

Eventually if anyone moves up from 168.
Dawson also signed with Haymon, so that match is probably out too

IDK but they mentioned Jean Pascal during the fight but I could have sworn he came out saying he is a free agent and more than likely signing to TR. Once GBP lil touney ends who knows what will happen, but Kovalev will start to shine while Adonis and his promoters are stuck with shit and Showtime gets fucked with the low ratings for another year.

I'm sure he's still signed with GYM Promotions.

On March 27th, Yvon Michel (of GYM) said that Stevenson’s “goal is to unify the titles and after that defend titles unified. Do it with Pascal, it would be ‘wow’. It's almost a dream fight.”

Duva wants Kovalev vs. Andre Ward bout

SERGEY KOVALEV andre ward By Allan Fox: With WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson now history after having moved over to Showtime, Kathy Duva, the promoter for WBO 175lb champion Sergey Kovalev (24-0-1, 22 KO’s), is interested in matching the power punching Russian against WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward (27-0, 14 KO’s), but the fight would have to take place at the full 175lb for the light heavyweight division without a catch-weight for Ward.

“Certainly, Andre Ward is a fight we want. He’s going to have to come up at 175 because he [Kovalev] can’t make 168,” Duva said to thaboxingvoice.

What are the chances of Ward moving up to face Kovalev? I’d say not too good. If Ward wasn’t interested in facing an arguably lesser puncher in Chad Dawson at a catch-weight or at his full weight of 175, then it’s highly unlikely that Ward is going to want to step up to 175 and face Kovalev, even though it’s the biggest fight that Ward could make right now that he has a realistic chance of getting, but it’s improbable that he would ever agree to such a dangerous fight. Ward is a great defensive fighter, but he still gets hit a lot.

With Kovalev’s big power, he could make a mess of Ward like he did against his last opponent Cedric Agnew. 6-7 rounds appears to be the upper limit for what one of Kovalev’s opponents can physically stand before they’re unable to continue fighting. Ward would have a lot of problems against someone like that, because his usual mugging style of fighting wouldn’t work well enough for him to get hit with some monstrous punches.

Kovalev is able to punch with enormous power even in close, and that would be a problem for Ward because he wouldn’t be able to count on smothering him the way he normally with his opponents.

Kovalev is without a top name for him to fight now that Stevenson has signed up with Showtime. Duva is interested in matching Kovalev against the top super middleweights besides Ward, such as Carl Froch, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, and George Groves. She’s also interested in matching Kovalev against light heavyweights Jean Pascal and Lucian Bute as well. Those would be decent fights if she could get either of them to agree to it, but it’s doubtful. Pascal is a fighter who is very selective in who he faces nowadays, and Bute looks to be totally shots with nothing left.

Five exciting welterweight bouts that can happen in 2014

manny pacquiao floyd mayweather jr By Daven: We all know how talent stacked the 147 lb division currently is. In fact one could argue that the welterweight division has been the premier division in boxing throughout the last seventy years. Sugar Ray Robinson and Henry Armstrong are widely regarded as the two greatest boxers of all time and are renowned for their dominance at welterweight. These men went on to capture world titles at multiple weight class hence establishing a precedent for the great boxers that followed them.

Likewise Roberto Duran and Sugar Ray Leonard went on to accomplish similar things in the 1980s. Again these two individuals are considered as top 10 P4P fighters. All in all the welterweight division has been exciting for those who appreciate boxing history. This article will outline 5 fights that will consolidate the 147lb division as the best around.

5. Brandon Rios vs. Ruslan “Siberian Rocky” Provodnikov: Well, this fight has been touted especially by Rios over the last three months and I anticipate an announcement with enthusiasm. Both men are known for their come forward styles and Provodnikov especially relishes an all-out war. Ruslan in my view would get a TKO victory within 10 rounds, yet it would be a thoroughly enjoyable watch. He is becoming an avoided fighter if one believes the rumors about the magnificent Juan Manuel Marquez refusing to fight him. I personally believe this to be true, why else would he accept a fight with the weaker Mike Alvarado? It would have been logical for Marquez to meet the Siberian Rocky, as he defeated Alvarado last year.

4. Adrien Broner vs. Amir Khan: Both these fighters are known more for their trash talking as opposed to boxing skill and legitimacy. However, that doesn’t mean to say this fight would not be of interest to a demanding boxing community. If Khan loses to Luis Collazo in their fight on May 3rd, he’ll have few places to turn to. A fight with Broner could be his saving grace; plus should Collazo knock Khan out and should Broner struggle to beat Carlos Molina on May 3rd, then Golden Boy might cease protecting both men and just have them battle it out. After all this fight would sell no doubt. I’d give the edge to Khan mainly because Broner lacks power and more importantly he lacks dedication to the sport whilst Khan has for all his flaws been working hard in honing his skills. Last week Broner was pictured in a night club, looking overweight with John Wall. To me this is scandalous behavior. He has a fight in 5 weeks, yet he can’t dedicate himself to training camp? I’m sorry but this guy will not last.

3. Manny Pacquiao vs. Ruslan Provodnikov: Regardless of whether or not Pacquiao emerges victorious over Tim Bradley in their rematch on April 12th, a fight with Ruslan can still be made for Pacquiao. Is the Russian being avoided? Top Rank has such a small stable who else can Pacquiao fight? Rather than seeing a fifth instalment of Pacquiao- Marquez, a fight with the Siberian Rocky would be ideal for Manny to tell his doubters to back off. Pac-man would have to absorb a lot of body shots but his speed and technical ability should be enough to secure him a unanimous win over Provodnikov. Generally speaking a fight with a former sparring partner ensures decent sales as it adds to the back story, just like how Holmes-Ali proved to be a gigantic success. Moreover in UFC Evans vs Jones was a huge success too.

2. Marcos Maidana vs Lucas Matthysse: Although Matthysse is currently at 140, I believe he is ready to move up and make big money. The only fighter at light welterweight he can make money with is Danny Garcia, but that rematch is looking unlikely. That being said Lucas should get past his next opponent John Molina with ease in their fight on April 26th, then Matthysse can look to a giant September showdown with Maidana at an Argentine football stadium. The two have bad blood as Maidana defeated Matthysse in the amateurs and the latter is determined to get revenge. Lastly, Maidana will be seeking a big fight after he loses to the best in the world and this bout is the only one that come close to his pay day on May 3rd. Chino would beat Lucas in a close 12 round contest in my view but would be lucky to avoid being knocked down in the course of the fight.

1. Floyd Mayweather Jr vs. Manny Pacquiao: If Khan loses against Collazo, who is Maywather going to fight at welterweight and make big money with? IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter would be a good opponent, but I don’t think he’d be taken seriously as a credible threat to the King. Moreover, the likes of Devon Alexander and Keith Thurman need to build the profiles more. That leaves nobody at 147 from Golden Boy. Likewise, Pacquiao is running out of opponents. If Pacquiao beats Bradley, he will probably end up fighting Marquez next September, although I’d rather it be Siberian Rocky. However, Mayweather has to realize that if Khan does lose to Collazo, he is in trouble too. Floyd Mayweather Sr. has made it clear that he wants his son to only fight at 147 in the future, but with very few fighters credible enough to take on the challenge, I can see them turning to Pacquiao. Manny is clearly past his best yet he is such a worldwide star that he would generate mega money with Floyd. Ultimately Bob Arum would have to play a minimal part in negotiations and Pacquiao would have to abide by Money’s Olympic style drug tests but I do believe Showtime and HBO could work this out. That being said Floyd could always fight at 154 but that division is depleted of quality so should he fight there he cannot expect big pay per view buys that’s for sure.

Kathy Duva: Adonis Stevenson must fight Sergey Kovalev in September - Ring TV

Sergey Kovalev's handlers are insisting that a deal is in place for the WBO light heavyweight titleholder to fight RING and WBC champion Adonis Stevenson in September on HBO should Stevenson get beyond a May 24 defense against Andrzej Fonfara on Showtime.

Stevenson (23-1, 20 knockouts) says a more lucrative offer from Showtime than that from HBO was the reason he and promoter Yvon Michel moved their bout with Fonfara (25-2, 15 KOs) to Showtime — this, after HBO opted not to renegotiate its agreement with the boxer.

But Main Events CEO Kathy Duva, who promotes Kovalev (24-0-1, 22 KOs), informed RingTV.com on Monday that Michel not only agreed to Stevenson-Kovalev, but that she has notified Michel of her intentions to enforce the terms she claims they agreed to through an e-mail exchange on Jan. 24.

Duva said Main Events attorney, Pat English, sent the letter of notification to Michel's lawyer, Leon Margules, on Monday.

"We have informed Yvon Michel through his attorney today that we have a deal, and that our deal memo was exchanged on Jan. 24 with all of the terms, and that deal memo referenced the amount of money that we would accept from HBO, and we have that amount of money from HBO. So we expect them to be there and ready to fight according to the terms of this deal," said Duva.

"But it would have to be in September, now, because they had a deadline in which to inform us that the fight would be in October. They were trying to do a deal in Las Vegas for October, so they asked us for the right to do either or, and we agreed on that. But that deadline has passed, so I guess that it would be in late September, and it would be in Montreal, and we have that amount of money from HBO that we agreed that we would accept."

Would Duva consider taking legal action, if need be?

"We're reserving all of our rights at this point as we explained to them," said Duva. "We have a history of protecting our rights, and we'll reserve all of our options at this point. No decision has been made."

With the request that they not be published, RingTV.com has obtained a copy of the exchange of the e-mails between Duva and Michel in which the deal appears to have been mutually agreed upon.

Margules acknowledged having been informed of the developments.

"Yes, I've received the letter. But I don't believe that there is a lot of merit in their case, if any," said Margules. "Any comments or issues relating to whether there is a fight or not a fight, you would have to talk to Yvon Michel."

Michel could not be reached for an immediate comment.

Both Stevenson and Michel have said that Stevenson stands not only to make a career-high for facing Fonfara, but that the amount that he will pocket is more than that being offered by HBO for a clash with Kovalev, who scored three knockdowns during Saturday night's seventh-round knockout of previously unbeaten Cedric Agnew on HBO.

"I am going to make more money fighting Fonfara than HBO was going to give me to fight Kovalev," said Stevenson during a Sunday telephone call to RingTV.com. "That makes no sense that I can make more money fighting Fonfara than I was going to make fighting Kovalev in a unification fight."

Showtime already is the home of Golden Boy Promotions' 175-pound counterparts Bernard Hopkins and Beibut Shumenov, who will put their respective IBF and WBA belts on the line against each other on April 19.

In February, Stevenson signed with powerful advisor Al Haymon, most of whose fighters are promoted by Golden Boy and fight on the Showtime network.

Given HBO has severed ties with Golden Boy and Hopkins has expressed the desire to face Stevenson, that could well be in the cards, should the former undisputed middleweight champion beat Shumenov.

Stevenson told RingTV.com that he would return to HBO to fight Kovalev, but only if the network increases its offer.

"Ask HBO, 'Can they show me the money?' That's the problem with the Kovalev fight," said Stevenson. "It's about the money. Don't you think that it's a pay-per-view fight between me and Kovalev? I think they need to pay for that."

Stevenson went 4-0 over the course of 2013, in succession, with knockouts of Boone, Chad Dawson, Tavoris Cloud and Tony Bellew in the sixth, first, seventh and sixth rounds, respectively. Stevenson's victories over Dawson, Cloud and Bellew were all televised by HBO.

"I like HBO and they supported me and they helped me to get 'Fighter of The Year 2013,'" said Stevenson, "but at the end of the day, it's business and it's time to get paid and Showtime gave me more money."

But Duva insists that Stevenson must fight Kovalev for the amount agreed to by HBO, and for not a penny more.

"Our deal with Yvon Michel was not contingent on him entering into a multi-fight deal with HBO. It simply says, 'This is the way that we'll split the money, and this is how much we will accept. We will accept this amount of money from HBO,' and we have that. That's a contract, and that's a deal. We don't care about his fight with Fonfara. That can happen on Showtime, or it can happen on the moon," said Duva.

"We don't care when he fights him, if he fights him or where he fights him. That's got nothing to do with the deal that we made. We have a deal with HBO for these two guys to fight in September on HBO. It says that specifically that we will accept the figure from HBO, and it describes the range within which the figure needs to be, and that's the amount that we have. We agreed to that with HBO, and as I said, the exchange of e-mails states that we have both agreed on how much money we would accept, and we have that amount."

HBO dropped the ball. Stevenson is saying this is a PPV fight and that HBO needs to pay for it. Yeah, they dropped the ball big time.

HBO invested millions of dollars in Stevenson. In his own words HBO made him a star.

Stevenson vs Kovalev is not a PPV. Nor is Stevenson vs Hopkins. Hopkins last PPV did 50k.

Hopefully Duva cockblocks the fight and gets him in court since there was a prior agreement. Showtime can pay him $2m or whatever the hell it is for his tune up fight, then make the big fight on HBO.

Stevenson vs Kovalev is ppv worthy. Just ask the man and he will tell you.

This is not a case of high risk low reward. This is HIGHEST RISK/LOWEST REWARD.

He took the money, he is fighting a guy who is a solid contender (his mandatory if memory serves me right) and on his way to unifying the titles.

Its not ppv worthy at all. Stevenson vs anybody on Showtime will get 500k views. Kovalev just got over a milli! Stevenson is getting money rt now, which I don't believe, but what happens when Showtime realizes he's not as big as Kovalev? It will prove he ducked Kovalev

To hardcore fans it's PPV worthy but the reality is there's only a few guys that can carry a PPV. Floyd, Pac, Cotto, Canelo, Chavez. And maybe argue Marquez (JMM vs Bradley did about 350k).

Just ask Steveonson and he will tell you. He has numerous awards, fighter of the year, high ko rate, belts, etc. Kovalev is a champ, high ko rate, etc. Anything can be hyped up and sold to the masses. The case of Pet Rocks proves this without a shadow of a doubt.

I respect Stevenson even more now for not letting HBO whore him out. I do not think Kovalev can say the same.

Battle you make no sense as usual. Is Kovalev in a position to unify anything while he is with hbo?
