Adonis Stevenson Explains Why He Inked With Al Haymon

WBC light heavyweight kingpin Adonis "Superman" Stevenson shocked the boxing world when he announced that he had signed a contract with powerful boxing adviser Al Haymon. BoxingScene.com caught up with the knockout artist who is in currently in Las Vegas taking a vacation from the cold Montreal winter.
The 36-year-old Stevenson said that he has known Haymon's right hand man Sam (Watson) for a long time and that after a couple of weeks of negotiating they were able to reach an agreement.
"It has been a couple weeks that we have been talking together with Al. I have known Sam for a while. We have always been friendly. I feel that at this point in my career I need a top manager to help me and I think Al is the best guy for me to get me the best opportunities and take me to another level," Stevenson explained while saying that he feels Haymon's broad reach will be able to land him other opportunities outside of the boxing ring.
"He brings a lot to the table. He brings the wisdom and a lot of opportunities outside of boxing like TV shows, movies. There are a lot of things he can bring. He is not just in boxing. He can make someone a superstar and you can see that (from what he has done with his other clients)," Stevenson continued.
Stevenson said that he still plans on fighting three times in 2014 and that he will be returning to the ring soon.
"That is still the plan. We want to stay as active as possible. I want to tell my fans that I will be back soon and that it will be a good show. When I am in the ring I put on a good show for my fans. I want to tell them I love them and I want to thank them for all of their support. If Kovalev is successful, he will move another step forward to a unification with WBC champion Adonis Stevenson (23-1, 20KOs), who likely returns on May 24th against Andrzej Fonfara.
Stevenson's team, now with powerful adviser Al Haymon, is still negotiating a multi-fight deal with HBO. The network would like to have both fighters meet each other in the month of September.
"Right now I have*my match against Cedric Agnew, and that's the only thing I'm focusing on. And*Stevenson, I can only*say that if he*refuses to fight with me [after I beat Agnew], then he is a coward and not a world champion," Kovalev said.

Provodnikov's Return Eyed For June 14, Rios is Unlikely

The return of WBO junior welterweight champion Ruslan Provodnikov (23-2, 16KOs) is being targeted for June 14th, on HBO, according to his promoter Artie Pelullo of Banner Promotions.
The "Siberian Rocky" is looking to pick up right where he left off, with his career-defining 2013. After having a "Fight of The Year" battle with WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley in March, Provodnikov returned in October to stop Mike Alvarado in ten rounds to capture then WBO title.
Most fans were hoping that Provodnikov would face Brandon Rios, but Pelullo tells BoxingScene.com that a Rios fight is unlikely due to weight. Provodnikov wants to defend his title, and Pelullo was informed that Rios is unable to get down to 140-pounds.
Pelullo tells BoxingScene that his company will be looking very closely at the outcome of April's rematch between Manny Pacquiao and Bradley. Provodnikov was in the running to face Pacquiao, who ultimately decided on Bradley. And a rematch with Bradley is also at the top of Provodnikov's wish list.

If I were Ruslan I'd just move up to 147 and fight Rios there. I mean Ruslan was willing to fight Pacquiao at 147 might as well test the waters first. But I guess defending his 140 pound title is important to him (can't blame him since he just won it and it's his first world title).

You people are fools. The man called Kovalev out the day he inked a deal with Haymon. He called him out and said he wants to unify the belts but said he wants more than a million and based that on all the awards and nominations from last year.
And it is not like saying he wants more than Kovalev. He is saying he wants more because this is a multimillion dollar fight. Then you have this one, if he is ducking why go with HBO? Wouldn't the best thing for him to do is ink a deal with Showtime if it's about protection?

I haven't called Stevenson a ducker. Yet. I'm going off of Stevenson's words, his hesitation when Kovalev is brought up. I do think he'll fight him eventually because of his contract with HBO will force it, kinda like how Paul Williams was forced to rematch Martinez when he didn't really want it.
Also HERESY, it depends on what kind of money he's going to ask for and whether its outrageous or realistic, that remains to be seen. The way he's talking about he's #2 behind Floyd, if he's suggesting he wants Mayweather money he's out of his mind. Now if he asks for $2 million, that's realistic.

When asked a question about who is next he gave the typical answer. Now that he inked the deal he specifically called out Kovalev and said his plans are to unify the belts. And if you wan to talk about ducking why don't we talk about what BHOP said about when he tried to make it happen with Kovalev. And what has Kovalev's promoter said last week? "We're very confident this fight is going to be made." So if they are saying that and Stevenson is calling him out what is the problem? You each get a fight or two before you mmeet but you end up fighting in a big summer match or near the end if the year so it can be the big closer of the year.

As I said, I haven't called him a ducker yet. Actions speak louder than words. Plenty of guys have said they'll fight this guy or that guy and go a different direction, time will tell.
As for Hopkins vs Kovalev there was no duck. This is exactly what happened:

The IBF elevated Kovalev to mandatory status.
Hopkins said there is no way he would vacate his IBF title and will fight Kovalev.
Golden Boy says they'll need to negotiate with Kathy Duva (Kovalevs promoter).
The fight will go to a purse bid. No date, venue or purse are set.
Meanwhile, one of tue other title holders, Nathen Cleverly, offers an immediate fight for Kovalev. Date, venue, HBO slot, and purse already laid out. No purse bid necessary.
Kovalev accepts challenge.

Gamboa vs Garcia is an awesome fight. Hopefully Garcia accepts Gamboa's challenge. But as far as straight up action goes, Stevenson vs Kovalev would likely be the more exciting fight. Garcia and Gamboa are both more technical fighters. Kovalev is a wrecking machine and Stevenson has big one punch KO power.
