Ishe Smith gets another shot. Damn I can't stand that man. He's a C-level fighter at best. I hope Lara retires his ass

I swear they are deliberately putting Lara in with the most boring, spoiler styles possible. First Trout, now Smith, I bet they were planning a Molina rematch before he got locked up lol
I understand and can appreciate Mayweather throwing his TMT fighters a bone and having them on his PPV but really nobody wants to see Ishe Smith and J'Leon Love. Kinda fucking up the undercard.

There's probably a lot of truth in the saying "You're only as good as your last fight". There was a ton of hype around Canelo going into the Floyd fight. Some people say he didn't put worth a strong enough effort or really press the action, so some of that hype died down. His performance last night surely got the train moving forward again.

I personally was pissed at the effort that Canelo put forth against Mayweather. The worst of which was the way he laid on the ropes and let Mayweather tee off on him. He was so frustrated, he all but gave up. Naturally, people are going to be pissed when you talk about how you're going to stalk and knock out a dude then pull something like that.

that's the excuse we're going with? How about he was just completely outclassed and not in the same league of fighter. He also signed on the dotted line for the fight and talked for weeks about how the weight wouldn't be an issue. It's retarded to use that excuse after the fact, especially when it was only 2 lbs more than he normally would've had to lose with plenty of advanced notice.

So Canelo fights a guy who is, according to all organizations and outlets, the best fighter in the world, gets defeated and then the excuses flow. Then he fights a guy who was fuckin hand picked for his style and all of a sudden it is "yeah he is back."
There is no way you can use last nights performance for anything.

Gervonta Davis is AL Haymon's Best Kept Secret at Featherweight?

Gervonta Davis had a stellar amateur career. He hails from Baltimore, Maryland and had a record of 206-15. Currently he is 6-0, 6KO's in the Professional ranks. Gervonta grew up in the rough streets of Baltimore and he wants to bring inspiration to the kids and adults that anything is possible and you can make it. His family was riddled in the drug life and at 8 yrs old Davis tried to smoke weed but soon realized it wasn't for him.
Calvin Ford runs the Upton Boxing Center and he sees alot of potential in Davis. Ford was at one time a lieutenant in the group that ran the notorious Lexington Terrace drug trade during the 1980s and was the inspiration for the character Dennis "Cutty" Wise on "The Wire".
Ford had alot of boxers that came or went or got in trouble. That was his hope in those young boys but the streets keep calling. However he has found new life in Gervonta Davis. Apparently AL Haymon has found hope in Davis also. From our understanding AL Haymon has signed this young kid to his stable of fighters. Any kid that has the will to fight the streets to survive and translate it to the boxing ring is one to look out for. Gervonta's next fight is March 17th in Boston. This kid might be the next best secret out of Baltimore. Stay on the look out.

60,000 tickets sold for Froch-Groves II rematch within an hour

By Scott Gilfoid: In a sign of how how the Carl Froch vs. Geroge Groves rematch is, 60,000 tickets were sold out within the first hour of going on sale for their May 31st rematch at the Wembley Stadium, Wembley, in London, United Kingdom. Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn is looking to have additional tickets put on sale, as the stadium seats 80,000 for boxing events. That’s a ton of tickets. You don’t seen fights selling out that quickly, and it just kind of shows you how big this fight will be.
In hindsight, Groves was smart to push to have the fight staged at the Wembley Arena because if he had agreed to having it take place at the Nottingham Forest Grounds, it would have sold out after just 30,000 seats. I mean, they could still make their money if they tripled the price of the tickets, but I think that would have been off-putting for fans especially given how their previous fight ended controversially with the referee jumping on Groves in the 9th and halting it without warning or need.
If anything, the tickets for the rematch should have been discounted steeply due to the horrible outcome of their November fight. There wouldn’t have been a need for a rematch if the referee had simply let the fight play out without involving himself needlessly in the 9th. If he wanted to involve himself, he should have been on his J-O-B and been calling the awful fouling that was occurring left and right in the fight.
This fight is obviously going to sell out the entire Wembley Stadium. I just hope they’ve got some kind of crowd control there, because I’d hate to see a stampede at the ring if some kind of shenanigans go on like last time. That’s all we need is a big surge of humanity going towards the front of the stadium resulting in a lot of people getting hurt. Hearn shouldn’t cut costs in terms of having a huge security force in place just in case the crowd gets worked up to a frenzy and starts pushing towards the ring.

According to Sky Sports, Groves will not fight Froch unless the British Boxing Board of Control appoints a neutral official [referee] to work the fight. If the BBBofC don’t agree to appoint neutral officials, then Groves won’t take the fight.
Groves doesn’t want to have a referee that fails to do his job correctly, as last time the referee jumped in and halted the action in the 9th round when Groves was slightly dazed from a punch. The thing is, earlier in the fight the referee let the action continue when Froch was knocked down in the 1st round and badly hurt. Froch was staggering after he got back to his feet, but the referee still let the fight go on without jumping on Froch and putting him in a headlock like he did with Groves.
“It was a stonewall robbery first time, everyone knows it, and that’s why I’ve requested neutral officials,” Groves said via Sky Sports. “It’s conditional on the fight going ahead.”
The whole thing about there being a neutral referee and judges should have been in the contract language for the fight, although it would have had to have been blessed by the British Board at the time. Hearn couldn’t have just said that it would happen without the BBBofC agreeing on this.
Hearn agrees that there should be neutral officials, so it’s now going to be up to the British Boxing Board if they’ll allow that to happen. If not, then we may not have a fight between them. It would be a pity, because the fight would be huge and clearly the biggest fight since in the UK since Ricky Hatton’s fight against Juan Lazcano back in 2007.
You can’t blame Groves at all for wanting to have neutral officials working the fight, because the referee that worked their previous fight was way too quick to halt the fight in the 9th round when Groves was hurt. Groves really wasn’t that hurt at all at the time. Froch charged him after hitting him with a right hand, and ended up bumping into him and knocking him into the ropes. The referee Howard John Foster then jumped on Groves and stopped the fight. It just looked like he handled it badly, and didn’t seen to notice that Froch had bumped Groves like a little bull charging into a matador.
They need a referee that will actually call the fouls that are being committed in the fight, because you can’t have rabbit punches, hitting on the break, and other such fouls being allowed for 12 rounds without it being a joke of a fight. If a referee is going to allow those kinds of things to be done, then Groves and Froch might as well go out there and start kicking and grappling on the canvas like a typical MMA fight. With all the fouling that was done lat November, I saw it as a watered down MMA type of match with referee doing zero to control the fouling.
I’d like to see someone like Jay Nady to work the Froch-Groves rematch. Nady is a no nonsense type of referee that refuses to put up with fouling. If there’s any fouling going on in the fight, he’ll nip it in the bud immediately

Canelo would like to face the Sergio Martinez – Miguel Cotto winner, but neither of them will be available for Canelo’s next scheduled fight on July 26th. Judging by the way that Canelo gave WBA interim light middleweight champion Erislandy Lara the bum’s rush at the post-fight press conference when he had the audacity to ask him for a fight, Canelo likely won’t be fighting him again. In fact, Canelo flat out told him “you have to wait.”
Previous to the Angulo fight, the guy that was mentioned as being Canelo’s target after the Angulo fight is IBF junior middleweight champion Carlos Molina (22-5-2, 6 KO’s). He’s got a title in his possession, and about as well known as Angulo, but with even less power than what we saw from Angulo last night. Molina is very likely going to be the one selected for Canelo to fight next, because this gives Canelo the opportunity to capture a world title without much risk involved.
There’s really not too many risky fights for Canelo at 154 when you think about than Floyd Mayweather Jr., Miguel Cotto and Lara. The rest of the guys are easy fights for him more or less. Like I said, you can scratch Lara’s name off Canelo’s list because he won’t fight him, and Mayweather’s off the list as well because there’s no point in either of them ever fighting again after Canelo’s one-sided loss to him. That leaves Cotto, who will be unable on July 26th, and Molina.
Since Canelo is interested in picking up a title at 154 to validate him in the eyes of boxing fans, then than pretty much narrows down his next fight to take place against Molina. There are some questions about the wisdom of Canelo taking that fight, though. As big as Canelo is now, he might not be able to make weight for the fight, and if he misses out on the weight, then he’d be fighting Molina just for the sake of fighting him.
It’s not worth it for Canelo to fight Molina unless his IBF title is on the line because he has no fan base whatsoever, and it’s unlikely that people would be eager to see Canelo fighting him on PPV. The other thing is there’s no money in a Canelo-Molina fight because like I said, Molina isn’t a popular fighter and he’d been seen as another sacrificial lamb for Canelo to pad his record with.
In an ideal world, Canelo would move up to the middleweight division where he clearly belongs right now and face Gennady Golovkin or Peter Quillin. Fans would really go for the idea of Canelo fighting either of those guys, and he’d likely win back fans and make a lot of money on PPV. However, Canelo and/or Golden Boy Promotions probably won’t be willing to take on a risky opponent like Golovkin or Quillin, because those guys would have too good of a chance of beating him.
Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer said “Canelo wants to fight the best. He doesn’t need to wait for anyone. He just wants to entertain.”
It seems like Schaefer is saying things that conflict. He says Canelo wants to fight the best, but he then matches him against Angulo. He says he doesn’t need to wait for anyone, but the fact is in order to fight the best, Canelo will have to do some waiting for fights against the likes of Martinez or Cotto.
