KHAN PREFERS TO WAIT FOR MAYWEATHER; ALEXANDER-JUDAH AND MALIGNAGGI-PORTER IN WORKS FOR DEC. 7?
By Ben Thompson | September 27, 2013

It looks like a potential matchup between former jr. welterweight champion Amir Khan and reigning IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander will NOT be taking place on December 7 after all. Sources close to the information have informed us that Khan has been tabbed as the frontrunner to land the coveted assignment of facing undefeated pound-for-pound king Floyd "Money" Mayweather in his next bout. As such, it appears that the British native has decided to forego an opportunity to face Alexander in December in favor of using the extra time to prepare for the biggest challenge of his career. It's unclear exactly when that challenge will come, but according to Mayweather, he plans on fighting again in May of 2014, which would make it over a year since Khan last fought.

Multiple sources have informed us that a new December 7 card is already being planned. We're told that it will definitely be a double-header, but it could easily become a triple-header. Word on the steet is that the main event could feature IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander defending his title against former champion Zab Judah, who became the undisputed welterweight champion back in 2005 after knocking out one of Kevin Cunningham's former fighters, Cory Spinks, in front of a record-setting crowd of 22,000 people in their hometown of St. Louis. Ironically, Alexander was also on that card in just his 3rd professional bout. We're also told that there's been preliminary discussions about the possibility of the co-main event featuring Brooklynite Paulie Malignaggi making his return to the ring to face undefeated welterweight contender Shawn Porter. I also wouldn't rule out an appearance by middleweight contender Daniel Jacobs, another Brooklyn native, on the card.

Are u serious?? Khan needs to fight and defeat Alexander before he even thinks about sniffing a Mayweather fight lol. Thats a joke. Garcia should get the Mayweather fight before Khan especially if Khan is just gonna sit an wait. If anything Khan should rematch Garcia and the winner should get Mayweather. Got Em!!

Thought this was pretty interesting not really "boxing news" and was uploaded on youtube 2 months ago. Basically some bum thought he could just go into in gym and whoop on anyone lol. Heres the description as stated on the youtube video: UFC GYM kids boxing trainer Allias Aguilar, only 15 years old, gets challenged by a 20 year old (so called street fighter) in front of Allias's students and gets his ASS BEAT, he's lucky Allias took it easy on him.

I have told everyone for years Khan was and is scared of Devon and Bradley. Both guys called this chicken shit out many times and he ducked every time. But he was quick to call out Bradley after everyone knew Bradley was going to Top Rank. But hey I have no problem watching Khan get beat up and KO'ed again. Khan did nothing to get a Mayweather fight.

Chavez Jr. not interested in Vera rematch

Chavez Jr. vs. Vera Chavez Jr Vera Brian Vera julio cesar chavez jr By Dan Ambrose: Brian Vera (23-7, 14 KO’s) sounded desperate for a rematch against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (47-1-1, 32 KO’s) after his 10 round unanimous decision loss last night. Repeatedly while being interviewed by HBO, Vera said he hoped that Chavez Jr. would give him a rematch so that he could whip him again and get credit for it.

While a lot of boxing fans are indeed interested in seeing Chavez Jr. and Vera fight again, Chavez Jr. isn’t one of them. He says the fight wasn’t close, and that he doesn’t need to prove anything by fighting Vera again.

Chavez Jr. said after last night’s fight:

In Chavez Jr’s mind, it was one-sided enough for him to move on rather than giving Vera a rematch like Chavez Jr. did against Matt Vanda and Carlos Molina, two fighters that Chavez Jr. fought in the past in bouts that ended in controversial decisions the first time around.

I thought Chavez Jr. lost to both Vanda and Molina in their first fights. The judges feel that way though and they gave Chavez Jr. a draw against Molina and a win over Vanda. I guess nothing has changed with Chavez Jr. still winning getting the benefit of the doubt when it comes to decisions.

Vera said this today to Sergio Mora on his twitter “Life goes on bro. Maybe we can do it again for millions after I f*** Chavez up again bro!”

It looks like it hasn’t fully sunken in with Vera that Chavez Jr. has absolutely no interest in giving him a rematch. He’s already said it, and it’s doubtful that he’ll change his mind about it. Chavez Jr. wants to fight for a world title at super middleweight, and Vera doesn’t have anything to offer him. Besides that, Chavez Jr. realizes that he has has everything to lose against Vera.

That’s one of the things that Chavez Jr. mentioned repeatedly in the run up to the Vera fight in saying that it was a fight where he wouldn’t get much in winning it, and he would lose a ton if he were to have been beaten.

Chavez Jr. was beaten, but he just wasn’t given an official loss on his record. It looks like he doesn’t temp fate by fighting Vera again, because the judges might not be willing to side with him if the fight has a similar pattern as last night’s fight between them.

Stevenson looking past Bellew; wants Bute-Pascal winner

Stevenson vs. Bellew Bute Pascal Bute vs. Pascal tony bellew lucian bute jean pascal adonis stevenson By Scott Gilfoid: Tony Bellew (20-1-1, 12 KO’s) may be the next guy to be facing WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson (22-1, 19 KO’s) in early 2014, but Stevenson isn’t thinking too much about the Bellew fight.

Instead, Stevenson is highly interested in the January 18th fight between fellow Canadian based fighters Lucian Bute (31-1, 24 KO’s) and Jean Pascal (28-2-1, 17 KO’s) at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada.

That’s the much bigger fight for Stevenson then a simple title defense against Bellew, who most casual Canadian fans have never even heard of.

A Stevenson vs. the winner of Bute-Pascal fight will be an interesting fight because it’s guaranteed to be an interesting one for fans. Bute is a highly talented former super middleweight title holder with a difficult southpaw style. Pascal is incredibly fast of hand, and he could give Stevenson a load of troubles if he’s able to make it past the first 10 rounds of the fight.

WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev is also someone that could be facing Stevenson at some point in 2014, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN. The idea is to have Kovalev make his first defense of his WBO title on the undercard of Stevenson’s fight against Bellew in early 2014.

This in turn will get Canadian fans a glimpse of Kovalev so that they can start getting excited about a future Stevenson vs. Kovalev fight.

A fight between Stevenson and Kovalev will be a huge fight. I don’t blame Stevenson for not wanting to take that fight directly after his defense against Bellew, because Kovalev needs to get some title defenses under his belt to make himself a bigger name before he faces Stevenson.

Right now it would be too premature to make a Stevenson-Kovalev fight. Kovalev needs to get at least 2 title defenses against some well-known contenders before he gets a unification bout against a talent like Stevenson.

It’s too bad that Stevenson can’t get an exception by the World Boxing Council so that he doesn’t have to face Bellew next. It would be better if the WBC allowed Stevenson to bypass the Bellew fight and instead take the winner of the Bute-Pascal fight because it’s a much bigger fight. You don’t want to keep the fans waiting for a huge fight like this

Andre Ward targeting Chavez Jr., wants PPV bout

Chavez Jr. vs. Ward Chavez Jr Ward julio cesar chavez jr andre ward By Scott Gilfoid: Not surprisingly, Andre Ward was full of nice things to say about Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (47-1-1, 32 KO’s) last night after so-called 10 round unanimous decision win over Brian Vera (23-7, 14 KO’s) last night in Carson, California. While pretty much the entire world was questioning the legitimacy of Chavez Jr’s win, Ward took a different stance by saying it was a fight that could have been ruled a draw.

Ward wants a fight with Chavez Jr. REAL bad, and he’s hoping that fight can take place in early 2014. Chavez Jr. said after the Vera fight that he wants to fight for a world title at 168 next, but I don’t think he has Ward in mind for that fight.

Ward told RingTV “Whether people like it or not, he got his hand raised tonight. That’s a fight [Chavez Jr. vs. Ward] that has to happen. That’s a pay-per-view fight. Chavez Jr. can fight. He’s got a lot of his father in him.”

Chavez Jr. is talking about wanting to fight for a world title at super middleweight in December, and Ward has a fight against Edwin Rodriguez on November 16th. As such, it looks as if Ward and Chavez Jr. want two different things. Ward wants Chavez Jr., but Chavez Jr. appears to be looking at going after a safer bet against one of the other 168 lb. champions.

I know how Ward really wants the Chavez Jr. fight, but I hate to rain on the talented Ward’s parade, but I just don’t see Chavez Jr. wanting a fight with him. Ward is also kidding himself if he thinks a Chavez Jr-Ward fight would be a pay-per-view event. That’s probably not going to happen now, not after Chavez Jr’s terrible performance last night against Vera. Oh yeah, Top Rank can make it a PPV fight, but I seriously doubt that it would draw even 100,000 PPV buys. Chavez Jr. fouled things up with his non-performance against Vera, and the only thing he can do to fix things is to give Vera a rematch to prove that it was a fluke thing.

Bob Arum of Top Rank should immediately start talking about a Vera-Chavez Jr. rematch, and he should be making excuses for him about he wasn’t in top shape. At least some of Chavez Jr’s fans would be pleased with this news, because it would give them the suggestion that Chavez Jr. is looking to fix the decision.

Arum would be making a horrendous mistake if he were to allow Chavez Jr. to fight someone like Ward, because it’s not a winnable fight for Chavez Jr. Ward is too fast and too talented for a mediocre fighter like Chavez Jr.

Stevenson's Promoter Wants Hopkins, HBO Eyes Kovalev

By Edward Chaykovsky

Yvon Michel, the promoter of WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson (22-1, 19 KOs), is trying his best to convince HBO to pick up a unification match with IBF champion Bernard Hopkins (53-6, 32 KOs), who at the end of October will make his mandatory defense against Karo Murat. The problem is that Hopkins is*a partner of Golden Boy Promotions and HBO cut ties with Golden Boy earlier this year. Hopkins has been fighting on network rival Showtime.

"We're trying to sell this fight to HBO," said Michel to the Edmonton Sun. "We're convinced that this is a clash that would interest people and that would make history."

If Michel can't convince the network to book Stevenson against a Golden Boy boxer, then Stevenson's next HBO televised fight is sure to be against*Tony Bellew (20-1, 12 KOs). HBO on the other hand would like to match Stevenson against WBO champion Sergey Kovalev (22-0, 20 KOs), who also fights on their network.

Deontay wants Chisora, Tony Thompson and Bryant Jennings
September 30th, 2013 | Post Comment - 21 Comments

Bryant Jennings tony thompson derek chisora deontay wilder By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten heavyweight Deontay Wilder (29-0, 29 KO’s) says he wants to take on the best contenders while en route to a heavyweight title shot in 2014. After Deontay takes care of his light work next month against Nicolai Firtha (21-10-1, 8 KO’s) on October 26th in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Deontay wanted to face a big name for his next bout, but he was unable to get any of the top fighters to agree to fight him on only 3 weeks’ notice.

Deontay wasn’t mentioned for the October 26th card until just recently, and that didn’t allow Golden Boy Promotions enough time to find a really big name for him.

Another problem Deontay had is his fight is buried on the undercard of the Bernard Hopkins vs. Karo Murat fight card, and Deontay is too far down on the card to have a lot of money for Golden Boy to offer a real big name the fight. Deontay would have to be the main event or the co-main event to get a top name.

Deontay says he wants one of the following heavyweights: Dereck Chisora, Tony Thompson or Bryant Jennings. You can pretty much rule out Chisora, because he’s not going to fly to the U.S. to fight Deontay, and you can’t expect Deontay to accommodate Chisora by flying over to the UK to fight him.

Showtime will be the one televising the fight, and I seriously doubt they’ll be okay with loading up an entire crew to fly all the way to the UK just to watch Deontay decimate a heavyweight who isn’t even ranked in the top 15 in the world rankings. Showtime would do it for a big name like David Haye no doubt, but for Chisora? I doubt it.

Deontay told RingTV “I want a Tony Thompson, I need a Bryant Jennings. I’m ready to shut some people up. We’ve been wanting Tony for a while. You can put [Bermane] Stiverne in there, too. I want them all. I want Chisora super bad so I can show my English fans.”

Tony Thompson would be a great opponent, because Golden Boy Promotions wouldn’t have to wrestle Thompson about coming over to the U.S, because he’s from the U.S.

Unfortunately, I don’t see Thompson agreeing to face a dangerous punchers like Deontay Wilder, because it would be a nightmare fight for him. Thompson doesn’t have the power to fight a guy like Deontay, and it would be a mismatch in a big way.

A fight against Jennings is probably the more realistic fight for Deontay, but Golden Boy would have to make a big offer to get Jennings and his promoter to agree to a fight against Deontay. Frankly, I don’t see it happening either. Deontay is too dangerous.

Reasons why Floyd will Select Khan as His Next Opponent

Mayweather Khan Mayweather vs. Khan khan England . Mayweather floyd mayweather jr amir khan By Kenny Rodz: This is the first time I’ve ever written a sports article at all. So your feedback and criticism would be greatly appreciated.

It has been talked a lot that Floyd Mayweather Jr’s next opponent will be Amir Khan. Does Khan deserve a fight against the sport’s pounds for pound best in the World?

Well, looking at his lackluster performances in getting KO’d by Danny Garcia in 2012, losing to B-level fighter Lamont Peterson, and after getting knocked down while struggling to get a “home-cooking” close decision against whatever was left of a guy who used to be a decent fighter in his prime, Julio Diaz, we can clearly say that he doesn’t deserve that fight. But, looking at the business side of boxing, it would be the fight that would make all the sense in the world.

First, Khan is a very fast fighter, but that’s about everything he has to offer, and he represents no threat of even making the fight competitive at all. Which means that the risk factor for Floyd is very, very low. Also, the fight would take place at the welterweight division, which is Floyd’s actual weight class.

Not only that, Floyd has mentioned, in more than one occasion, that he would love to fight in the Wembley Stadium, which has room to have a ridiculous number of thousands of fans in it, and Khan is the perfect opponent to fight there since Khan is a huge star and has a very good fan base in England.

At the end of the day, we have to realize that Floyd’s options are very limited when it comes to selecting an opponent for his next fight, and he also has four fights left in his contract with Showtime. Amir Khan would be the perfect fit for his next fight if he wants to make ridiculous numbers while fighting Khan in England because it wouldn’t sell nearly as much if it was to took place in USA.

The reward factor is very high while the risk factor is ridiculously low. It would be the best business move for him, and if there’s a guy who knows about smart moves in boxing right now, it’s Floyd.

There have been some red flags for Klitschko vs Povetkin which takes place in Povetkins backyard, Moscow, Russia.

First off Povetkins promoter put up insane amount of money, $25 million plus when the fight isn't worth that much.

Second, the odds drastically dropped from Wladimir -1100, to Wladimir -550 in just a few minutes. That means a TON of money was bet on Povetkin extremely suddenly.

Russia has had some coruption in all sports, including boxing over the years, so while I'm not saying Klitschko is going to lose, I'm just saying he better damn sure get a KO.
