Danny Garcia and Lucas Matthysse will likely meet this fall, according to Golden Boy Promoters, but probably not on the September 7 date that was previously expected.

The earlier statement from Top Rank's Bob Arum that Julio Cesar Chavez Jr's return would be pushed back to September 7 in Los Angeles worried boxing fans about another head-to-head night with Golden Boy and Showtime, but those fears appear to be much ado about nothing, as Richard Schaefer says that a Danny Garcia-Lucas Matthysse fight is still being worked on, but not for that date.
"I'm looking at a different date. We'll see what we're going to do. It's looking good, but I'm not done yet," said Schaefer, chief executive officer for Golden Boy Promotions, which represents Garcia and Matthysse. "When you make those big fights, you need to work on it, get people on the same page, go a little bit, take a little step back, then go again. I'm in the process, but I would hope within the next week or so I have something to announce."
Garcia-Matthysse is seen as the fight that will determine the true top dog at 140 pounds, as both guys are currently on a roll, and boxing fans are highly interested in seeing them go toe-to-toe. Oscar De La Hoya also tweeted earlier, rather clumsily, that Garcia and "Matisse" are close to finalizing a deal.
Los Angeles was considered a possible host for the Garcia-Matthysse fight, too, but there's no firm word on location or venue. Garcia has headlined twice already at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, and his fan base is on the East Coast, as he's a native of Philly with a growing New York backing. Matthysse, put simply, has no fan base in the United States, other than Hard Core Die Hard Boxing Heads, and usually they're on Twitter with bums like me.
