JMM actually beat Manny.
Bradley just plays the role.

JMM vs Bradley would be nice.

Juan Manuel Marquez Update

By Gabriel F. Cordero

Four-division world champion Juan Manuel Marquez is still waiting the opportunity to face Manny Pacquiao in November, but realizes there are other alternatives including seeking an opportunity for a fifth world title in a different division or make a defense of his WBO super lightweight belt, but Marquez plans to make every effort to be in the ring in November against a big name.

Marquez has also written a book titled “Yo si le gane a Pacquiao. Liderazgo para el exito” (I beat Pacquiao. Leadership for Success), where Marquez recounts his experiences against Pacquiao and discusses values such as discipline and responsibility in pursuit of personal goals.

Marquez Outbids Himself, Bradley In As Pacquioa's Next Opponent?

Apparently, undefeated WBO

welterweight champion Timothy Bradley is the likely frontrunner to land the November 10 assignment to face 8-division world champion Manny Pacquiao. According to a source, WBO jr. welterweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez, who was hoping to face Pacquiao for a fourth time, has priced himself out of the opportunity, demanding far more money than what promoter Bob Arum believes he's worth.

"It's business. Marquez wants too much money and they are simply not going to pay an opponent the kind of money he's demanding," our source commented, explaining that the economics of a fourth fight between Pacquiao and Marquez may not be quite as profitable if both fighters are making double digit million dollar purses. Marquez's demands have essentially opened the door for Bradley, whose first fight with Pacquiao was not the financial success that they were hoping for, but nonetheless still profitable.

The fact that Bradley is willing to take the fight for a much smaller purse than Marquez will ultimately mean more bottom line profit for Top Rank, especially if Arum was also able to convince Pacquiao that he too would have to take a smaller purse for the rematch. In fact, that may be the reason why Arum suggested "the pay-per-view networks, the cable companies and the satellite people in the United States don't believe that Bradley will do appreciable business" and "they are not going to spend the money we need them to spend."

Just last week, Nevada State Athletic Commission Executive Director Keith Kizer revealed that Top Rank officially requested the date of November 10 for Pacquiao's next fight to be held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. The news lends credence to the belief that Marquez, who has also stood firm on his refusal to face Pacquiao in Las Vegas, is now out of the running. Coincidentally, around that same time, Bradley began amping up his own verbal attacks, suggesting Pacquiao was afraid to face him again and even commenting, "Floyd [Mayweather] flattens Manny Pacquiao." Although Bradley insists that he's unsure if the rematch with Pacquiao will indeed take place, our source tells us that it's simply an act and Bradley is already creating hype for a fight that he's already been offered. "Bradley is acting out of character again; basically selling the fight already. He's been made the offer, and believe me, he's taking it," the source added.

As for Marquez, there's a very strong possibility that he could be facing IBF jr. welterweight champion Lamont Peterson in the near future. Although the IBF has declared that Peterson must face mandatory challenger Zab Judah, both Lamont and his trainer, Barry Hunter, have sounded as if there's a possibility that the fight may not come to fruition during recent interviews. Furthermore, they have both been extremely thankful of Bob Arum's support throughout Peterson's ordeal pertaining to the failed drug test. Not to mention, Peterson himself has suggested that the fight he wants most is a showdown with fellow jr. welterweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez. With Pacquiao quickly running out of Top Rank opponents, don't be surprised if Peterson and Marquez do indeed face off, with the winner promised a 2013 showdown against Pacquiao.

Top Rank Interfered? Promoters Fight Over Pro Boxer

By DESHAYLA STRACHAN, Court House News.com

MIAMI (CN) - A Florida boxing promoter claims in court that Top Rank interfered with its right to promote two-time Olympic gold medalist Guillermo Rigondeaux.

Caribe Promotions accuses Rigondeaux of breach of contract and Top Rank of tortious interference, in Palm Beach County Court.

Rigondeaux won two Olympic golds for Cuba, and is the WBA world super bantamweight champion, Caribe says in its complaint.

Caribe claims that in 2009 Rigondeaux gave it "sole, worldwide and exclusive rights" to promote his bouts for 3 years, with an automatic renewal for 3 more.

In 2010, Caribe says, the three parties to the complaint "entered into a co-promotional and promotional rights agreement," in a 2-year deal.

Caribe claims that when the co-promotional deal expired in July this year, Top Rank and Rigondeaux made a deal that cut out Caribe. Now Top Rank is promoting Rigondeaux's fight against Robert Marroquin, planned for Sept. 15 in Las Vegas, the complaint states.

Caribe seeks damages and an injunction preventing Rigondeaux from fighting any bouts without it, including the Marroquin fight.

Caribe is represented by Jared Lopez of Miami.

SCHAEFER SENDS STRONG MESSAGE TO 5O CENT; SNATCHES NOVEMBER 17 DATE ON SHOWTIME
By Ben Thompson | August 21, 2012

In a move that could be considered a big "F You" to promoter 50 Cent, Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer has flexed his promotional muscle by securing a November 17th date on Showtime for what is being described as a "signficant event". According to Rick Reeno of Boxingscene.com, a source advised him that Golden Boy Promotions recently put a hold on the November 17th Showtime date. The news comes just days after it was revealed that 50 Cent was in talks with Showtime about staging he and Floyd Mayweather's first TMT Promotions event, a championship doubleheader featuring former featherweight champion Yuriorkis Gamboa and top super middleweight contender Andre Dirrell, on that date.

According to Reeno's source, Golden Boy is already planning a significant event for Showtime on that date. Of course, it will be interesting to see just how "significant" that event turns out to be, however, as the majority of Golden Boy's top fighters already have bouts scheduled in and around that date. In fact, with Canelo Alvarez, Marcos Maidana, Devon Alexander and Lucas Matthysse fighting in September, Adrien Broner, Danny Garcia, Abner Mares and Paulie Malignaggi fighting in October, and Amir Khan expected to make his return to the ring in December, the only big-name Golden Boy fighter that doesn't already have something scheduled is former light heavyweight king Bernard Hopkins, who is coming off a majority decision loss to Chad Dawson this past April.

The news of Schaefer securing the November 17th date also comes on the heals of attorney Sekou Gary filing a lawsuit against Golden Boy Promotions on behalf of jr. middleweight contender James Kirkland, who is reportedly unhappy about his current contractual situation with the promotional company. When asked about the lawsuit, Schaefer was quick to tell Lem Satterfield of RingTV.com that he recognized Gary as the same attorney that represented Yuriorkis Gamboa, who was recently signed by TMT Promotions, in his settlement with Top Rank. "I can't really comment on that. But isn't that the same attorney who represented Gamboa? If so, then he must be 50 Cent's attorney. So I'll be looking into it," Schaefer commented on Sunday. Just two days later, he now has a hold on Showtime's November 17th date.

Coincidence? Maybe, but keep in mind that Stephen Espinoza, executive vice president and general manager of Showtime Sports, was the lead attorney for Golden Boy Promotions prior to securing his new gig. Truth be told, the inside joke in boxing circles is that it's really Schaefer, not Espinoza, who runs boxing on Showtime. According to our own sources, Espinoza was indeed having lengthy discussions with 50 Cent about the possibility of staging the first TMT Promotions event on the November 17th Showtime date. In fact, from what I'm told, the deal was nearly finalized yesterday. Shortly after Schaefer's comments regarding Kirkland's lawsuit, however, those talks have either changed dramatically or stopped altogether. Either way, the move by Schaefer and Golden Boy Promotions sends a strong message to both 50 Cent and Floyd Mayweather regarding their plans for TMT Promotions. It will be extremely interesting to see how this all plays out.

Lara by KO!

Schaefer: Lara Signs To Face Vanes on November 10th

By Rick Reeno

Golden Boy Promotions CEO, Richard Schaefer, has advised BoxingScene.com that junior middleweight contender Erislandy Lara (17-1-1, 11KOs) has signed his contract to fight unbeaten Vanes Martirosyan (32-0, 20KOs) in a WBC final eliminator on November 10th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas - as part of the Manny Pacquiao HBO pay-per-view undercard.

In an earlier article on BoxingScene , Vanes' manager and uncle, Serge Martirosyan, stated how his nephew signed the contract three weeks ago and they were simply waiting on Lara to sign his version.

"I talked to Lara's adviser, Al Haymon, today - and they confirmed that Lara signed the contract and is ready to go. The reason he didn't sign it before is because he actually got it late. He just had to review it, but it's all done. I understand that in the contract it stipulates that the fight will happen on November the 10th, at the MGM Grand as part of the Pacquiao card. We are ready to go and now let's see if Martirosyan is actually going to get into the ring. I have my doubts but based on the way they are talking I guess he will - which is great," Schaefer told BoxingScene.com.

On July 20th, the World Boxing Council held a mandatory purse bid for Vanes-Lara. Top Rank, who promote Vanes, placed a winning bid of $405,000 to secure the rights. The winner will become the mandatory challenger to the upcoming fight between champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez and challenger Josesito Lopez, which takes place on September 15th at the MGM Grand.
It about time Vanes actually fights someone. I don't know about Lara by KO, but the winner of this fight should be fighting for a 154lb title the next fight.

kirkland fucked up. I'm not just talking about his golden boy stuff but he threw Wolfe and Pops under the bus and Pops has damn near raised him since he was 6 years old and taught him hiw to fight, and Wolfe has been a mother figure to him for years. they stuck by him during two separate 2 year prison stints, after he got ko'd by Ishida, all his highs and lows. I've always been a fan of kirkland but he should have kept pops and wolfe out of this, they are two of the very few people on this earth that gave a shit about him when he was a nothing homeless man trying to survive. imo u don't treat people like that despite any differences he may have.

as for rigondeaux what a fuckin joke. some low life promoters I'm sure signed him to some bs contract when he was fresh off the boat and didn't know any better, now he'll probably be in a lengthy legal battle between bloodsuckers.

Mike Tyson warns 50 cent about the business of boxing

By Osman Rodriguez

Former undisputed heavyweight champion Mike Tyson appeared on Entertainment Sports Radio and discussed the topic of TMT Promotions, the promotional company started by rapper 50 Cent and his close friend Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Tyson hopes 50 Cent is able to succeed but also warned him about the dangers of being involved in the boxing industry.

"I wish 50 Cent the best of luck in the world with the endeavor that he's doing, but this is something that 50 Cent has to know when you're dealing with something like boxing and you're dealing with human beings. We calling it peddling the flesh.

Even though you're paying them, you're still dealing in flesh. Life in general is very short and unpredictable but its more unpredictable than it is short. So you have to understand that when you're dealing with human beings, you're dealing with the probability of anything happening," Tyson said.

"And you also have to know this about boxing. It's the only business in the world, the only legalized business, where everything is not always on top of the table. It should be taken over by the government.

50 is a rap star, 50 is an entertainer, 50 is an entrepreneur. He doesn't really know the ins and outs of boxing. He probably knows what Floyd tells him, but once he gets in this arena, everyone that was ever his friend on the other side is [now] his enemy. Their job is to decimate him financially and get him out of the business."

Andre Berto Licensed By The California State Commission

WINTER HAVEN, FLA.) – Andre Berto (Winter Haven, Fla.) has been licensed by the California State Athletic Commission after completing all necessary pre-licensing requirements.

“As someone who truly believes in clean sport, I have never used any type of performing enhancing drugs. Everything I’ve achieved was the result of hard work and determination,” Berto said. “I am excited that this whole situation is behind me, and I look forward to returning to the ring soon with another exciting performance so stay tuned.”

Berto’s positive test in May revealed extremely small amounts of a banned substance, that were inconsistent with any performance-enhancing effect and were much more consistent with contamination of an otherwise acceptable food or supplement.

Berto tested positive prior to the June rematch with Victor Ortiz. He was later replaced by Josesito Lopez, who shocked the odds by breaking Ortiz's jaw and securing a TKO in nine.

Ricky Hatton Two-Fight Comeback Rumors Building Strong

By Duncan Wright, courtesy of The Daily Star

According to strong sources, Ricky Hatton is continuing to train for a boxing comeback – and he will make his return to the ring in November. Sources indicate Hatton will reportedly announce a two-fight comeback in the immediate future.

The Manchester ace has not fought since being knocked out by Manny Pacquiao in 2009 and has always insisted he had retired for good.

But the 33-year-old former two-weight world champion has been back in the gym, and sources say he is in his best shape since he was fighting.

Hatton's preference is to face his old rival Paulie Malignaggi in late November. However, Malignaggi is already scheduled for a fight on October 20th against Pablo Cesar Cano at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York - and that makes it very unlikely that a rematch would happen that quickly.

Malignaggi is desperate to avenge his defeat to Hatton back in 2008 when he felt he didn’t do himself justice in a light welterweight clash in Las Vegas in 2008.

The New Yorker is now WBA welterweight champion and would be willing to put that belt on the line because he feels he has unfinished business with Hatton.

Since retiring, Hatton was blighted by a cocaine addiction but has cleaned up his act and is gradually gaining a good reputation as a trainer and promoter.

But he has already lost 34lbs since returning to training and Starsport understands he has rediscovered his buzz for the fight game again.

Besides a plan to announce a two-fight return, he is keen to secure a new television deal to help his Hatton Promotions company promote the fight.

If he comes through well against Malignaggi, Hatton is still thought to harbor ambitions of a return with Pacquiao, who beat him inside two rounds three years ago.

Hatton has always felt problems in his training camp meant he didn’t give a proper account of himself in that fight.

And even at this stage a rematch would attract huge interest both in the States and the UK.

so why was the fight cancelled?

I think this shows VADA and the likes are kinda useless, now that nothing happened to Berto and Peterson is still champion. So unless boxing implements a standard, random drug testing program, using 3rd parties like VADA doesn't really accomplish anything, other than cancelling a couple solid fights.

Also if these two fighters who tested dirty by VADA, if they were using the Floyd standard, the USADA, what would have happened then? I wonder what differences USADA has compared to VADA and if they would have done the same thing or not, or perhaps allowed Berto to fight but not peterson or what exactly.

anyways, point is boxing really needs to implement something so there is some kind of standard. Hopefully Nevada can lead the charge and other states will follow.

Berto tested positive for Deca.
That stuff makes you huge and strong as hell.
The only way to get it legally is if you have aids, so your muscles don't wither away. No way he did this unknowingly and it's not in over the counter "supplements".

I think different banned substances should be treated differently.
Deca, Halotestin, Winstrol, etc. are all full blown intentional and meant to do damage to your opponent.

Pacquiao's 12/1 Demand: A Move To Land Mayweather?

By Ronnie Nathanielsz

As previously reported, Manny Pacquiao’s planned November 10 fight at Las Vegas' MGM Grand Garden Arena is off.

Although Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum, who flew to the Philippines and met with Pacquiao in his hometown of General Santos City earlier this month, was confident the fight would definitely take place on November 10, Pacquiao has apparently had a change of heart and doesn’t want to fight on that date.

Pacquiao’s adviser Michael Koncz who is in the United States told BoxingScene.com/Manila Standard that he met with Arum in New York last Sunday and informed him that Pacquiao is prepared to fight on December 1 but that he hasn’t decided as yet on who his opponent will be or where the fight will be held.

Koncz indicated that the reason for the change of date was due to a conflict with the Congressman’s personal affairs which the adviser did not specify.

Koncz said “there is no hurry. I will talk to Manny in the next couple of days and discuss the options” which remain the same – a rematch with Timothy “Desert Storm” Bradley who won a hugely controversial split decision to grab Pacquiao’s WBO welterweight title, Mexican legend Juan Manuel Marquez who continues to claim he was robbed by the judges in their first three previous fights and wants a fourth battle with Pacquiao, and super welterweight Miguel Cotto who lost by a 12th round TKO to Pacquiao at the catch-weight of 145 pounds.

However, there has been a swirl of rumors that Pacquiao and some of his team members have been pushing him to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. and nobody else, because a loss in a rematch with Bradley or a fourth fight with Marquez would ruin his chances of making big money in a Mayweather fight.

With Mayweather released from prison ahead of time because of good behavior, a December 1 date would give the undefeated fighter enough time to recover from his prison ordeal and prepare for a Pacquiao showdown.

Well known Australian promoter Peter Maniatis who was recently in Manila believes the best option for Pacquiao right now is to face Mayweather and not risk fighting Marquez which he said “is a dangerous fight” or even Bradley whose confidence has grown and “is a younger fighter who can only get better in a rematch.”

So is Manny fighting Cotto or Bradley?? Or will Manny finally stop ducking Mayweather so he can take that asswhipping owed to him for 3 years now.

The failed test by Berto and Peterson caused both fighters to lose out on career high paydays. Then throw in the fact that both guys boxing reps are gone everyone will question there resumes, and every win will be down played and every lost will be because they are was not on PED's anymore. Mosley never failed a drug test in his boxing career, but because of Balco he's a juicer to most fans. Some fans will always call Berto and Peterson cheaters no matter what. Keep in mind that those same fans had no problem with Manny walking away from the biggest fight in boxing over random drug testing. So it is what it is. I feel sorry for Berto because his rep is fucked. Peterson is dumb and just had to tell VADA before hand.

Keep in mind that both fighters would not have been failed the normal commission drug tests. The VADA and the USDA is good for boxing. The boxing commissions are the one's that need to get on the ball.
