SecondsOut.com - Former WBO cruiserweight champion Enzo Maccarinelli has been banned for six months by UK Anti-Doping after testing positive for a banned substance following his British cruiserweight title win against Shane McPhilbin in March.
According a report on ESPN.co.uk, Maccarinelli’s ban is backdated from April 19 until October 18, UK Anti-Doping said in a statement on Wednesday.
The Welshman tested positive for methylhexaneamine, a specified stimulant often found in nutritional supplements, on March 23, after beating Shane McPhilbin via unanimous 12 round decision

that dude completely stopped fighting and did nothing but cover up for the final 2 rounds while Ortiz kept going full blast for another 4 rounds. lets see your ass get in the ring and have that happen to you and see if you continue throwing blows like he did.

Khan: I’m happy with Roach

By William Mackay: It doesn’t look as if Amir Khan is going to make any major changes with his training team by pulling the trigger to dump trainer Freddie Roach despite the two of them no longer finding success in their working relationship. Khan has lost his last two fights under Roach’s helm, and you would assume that some drastic changes are needed to save the Khan ship from sinking into the abyss.
Khan told Sky Sports News “Freddie’s a great trainer. I’m taking the blame. It was my fault…I was the one in the ring. I’m the one making mistakes…I’m going to look at my options, sit down with my team this week. A the moment I’m happy with Freddie, there are a few things that I want to change…see where I need to improve and see if Freddie can improve me in those departments.”
Khan seems conflicted about Roach. On one hand he’s saying he’s happy with him, but then he turns around and says he wants things changed. How can Khan be happy if he wants things changed and is getting beaten left and right? Is he happy or not happy? Khan has been saying that he’s going to ask for more time with Roach in training, but unless Khan is okay with working around the schedules of the tons of fighters that Roach trains at the Wildcard, I think he may have problems getting the individual attention that he wants from Roach.
But even if Khan gets in more quality time with Roach, will it really have much affect on Khan? I don’t think so. Roach is a trainer that is known for his offensive training skills, not his defensive training. I don’t know of any fighters that Roach trains or has trained in the past that was a good defensive fighter.
If Khan stays with Roach he may not improve enough to keep from getting knocked out again. Roach’s style of training generally requires a fighter with an intact chin that can take some heavy shots. That’s not a style that works with Khan. He needs someone like Emanuel Steward, who has often training guys with weak chins like Wladimir Klitschko.

Adrien Broner Says Saturday’s Fight With Vicente Escobedo Will Be His Last At 130-Pounds, Says He’ll Move Up And “Give The Lightweights Hell”

According to Broner, known as “The Problem,” the problem is making 130-pounds. The 22-year-old who has already been compared to the incomparable Floyd Mayweather Junior, says he is still growing and that it is time for him to move up in weight.
The reigning WBO super-featherweight champ who is currently 23-0(19) meets the capable Vicente Escobedo, 26-3(15) and never having been stopped, on Saturday, and he says that after he’s taken care of business in his home town of Cincinnati he will move up to 135-pounds. And, as great as that may be for Broner (and the idea of him tackling the big lightweight names, such as Miguel Vazquez, Ricky Burns, Antonio DeMarco and others is appealing enough), fans who crave a Broner-Gamboa showdown may suffer a letdown.
30-year-old Gamboa has not fought above 133-pounds before (that happening way back in 2007, before the Cuban sensation settled in as a natural 126-pounder) and at just a fraction above 5’5,” lightweight might be too big a step for the incredible action fighter who has already been kept inactive for way too long due to his legal wranglings with Top Rank. Broner is 5’7,” and he will likely have a great chance of cleaning up at 135, but can Gamboa really go up that high? If not, one of the hottest, most potentially thrilling lower weight match-ups of this year or of next year may fall by the wayside.
But there is no end to Gamboa’s ambitions (remember when he spoke of his desire to fight Manny Pacquiao!) and maybe he will follow Broner up to the lightweight ranks. As great (or potentially great) as he is though, Gamboa, 21-0(16) has been decked by lesser fighters when campaigning down at 126 - how would he cope with a strong, peaking 135-pounder such as Broner?
Maybe we will find out. Both fighters want the fight, and no fan I have spoken with has less than a massive interest in seeing it take place. The advantage will be Broner’s if the bout takes place at 135, though.

Froch Has Nov. 3rd And Nov. 10th Dates “Pencilled In” - Wants To Fight Pavlik And “Shut Him Up!”
By James Slater - Reigning IBF super-middleweight king Carl Froch, who will face Lucian Bute in a rematch clause-ordered rematch next year, and may also face Mikkell Kessler in another mouth-watering return in 2013, will fight first in November. “The Cobra,” speaking with BBC Radio Nottingham, said two dates have been “pencilled in” for a voluntary defence to take place in his hometown: November 3rd and November 10th.
Right now, Froch and his team are looking at a suitable opponent, but if Froch gets his way it will likely be former middleweight king Kelly Pavlik. For some time now, “The Ghost,” unbeaten in his 168-pound campaign, has been expressing interest in fighting Froch, and Froch says he’s had enough of Pavlik’s talk..
“Pavlik has been calling me out , so I’d like to shut him up,” Froch said. “If we can get him over to Nottingham, that’s one the fans would want. He’s just one name, and there are a couple of other names that Eddie’s [Hearn] looking at. We’re looking at November 3rd, or November 10th
“It gives me an opportunity to fight again in Nottingham and to defend the IBF title. Then, in the new year, there’s the rematch with Bute and the rematch with Kessler.”
Froch added that a return fight with Kessler is “more appealing to him,” but that he will have to honour his rematch clause with Bute and will fight him over in Canada. But all that comes in 2013 - in the meantime we could have Froch Vs. Pavlik, and what a great fight that could be.

Roach: Khan will out-box Garcia in a rematch; he should fight him next

By William Mackay: Trainer Freddie Roach wants Amir Khan to get back in the ring and face WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia in December to try and avenge his 4th round TKO loss rather than having Khan move up to 147.
Speaking about a possible rematch with Garcia, Roach told RingTV “If we get a rematch, we will out-box him. I want the rematch right away. There’s no sense of even thinking about 147 until we show that we can beat this guy at 140.”
Roach might be better off trying to convince Khan to steer clear of Garcia for the time being, because going from a hard knockout like the one Khan suffered to another fight with Garcia is asking for trouble. Khan has so much to work on, and he needs to be put back in with the lighter punchers so that he can work on his flaws without worrying about getting knocked out again. If Khan makes a mistake against a light puncher then it’s no big deal. However, if Khan fights Garcia again and continues to try and slug with him, he’s going to get knocked out again.
Roach told RingTV that Khan made too many mistakes in the Garcia fight, and that he needs to stop fighting with so much emotion in the future. Roach wants Khan to be more professional. Interestingly enough, Roach said that Khan never mentioned firing him at all. Instead, they spoke about wanting different sparring partners after Roach brought up whether they needed help finding a new trainer.
Roach went straight to heart of the matter and it looks like they weren’t interested in letting him go. Whether that stays this way remains to be seen. I know it’s often difficult to tell someone something when they come right out and speak on a touchy topic before you’ve had a chance to bring it up yourself.
How Roach is going to get Khan to fight in a more professional manner is the important question, because Khan is so easy to drag into a slugging war because of his fighting pride. He’s got too much ego, and can’t stand when he gets hit hard and the crowd cheers for the other fighter. Khan instinctively wants to get back at them, almost like it’s an argument that he can’t help but get drawn into.

Arum to meet with Pacquiao in early August to decide opponent for November 10th

By Chris Williams: Bob Arum of Top Rank will be meeting with his recently defeated fighter Manny Pacquiao early next month to try and come to a decision about who the Filipino will fight next on November 10th. There’s not much decide really. It’s down to two opponents – Tim Bradley and Juan Manuel Marquez.
Arum told the Manila Standard “I will probably meet with Manny in the beginning of August.I’ll be coming over to Manila.”
You can already guess who’s going to get the pick. Arum prefers Marquez, perhaps due to the bigger wad of cash that he can bring in compared to Bradley. If Arum is able to talk dollars and cents to Pacquiao, then we’ll likely see Pacquiao face Marquez next.
But if Pacquiao’s ego kicks into overdrive to where he absolutely feels he has to try and avenge the 12 round decision loss he suffered last month against Bradley, then that will be the direction they go in. I’m sure Pacquiao wants the most money he can get, but his stock really dropped with his loss to Bradley, and he’ll probably be wanting to show boxing fans that it was just an off performance from him.
I personally think it’s going to be a lot worse for him in a second fight against Bradley, because the chances are high that Bradley won’t suffer anymore leg problems in a second fight. If Bradley can fight with two good wheels and trim off some of that useless muscle he put on last time, he’ll have a great chance of whipping the Filipino a second time.
Pacquiao probably should avoid both of those guys because they got his number. If he wants to ensure that he gets a win, Pacquiao needs to face one of Arum’s Top Rank stable fighters, someone like Mike Jones. He was recently knocked out by Randall Bailey, and he’s probably still susceptible to getting knocked out again after a KO loss like that. If it’s not someone who already beat him then Pacquiao needs to fight someone new. He can’t have Arum trotting out Shane Mosley or Joshua Clottey again. Those were awful fights, and I’m still shocked that Arum made them.

Russell Jr: I’d beat Gamboa; Broner is limited
By Dan Ambrose: It looks like unbeaten featherweight contender Gary Russell Jr’s win over 2nd tier fighter Christopher Perez (23-2, 14 KO’s) has gone to Russell Jr’s head because he’s calling out Juan Manuel Lopez, and thinks he can beat Yuriorkis Gamboa. Not only that, he sees WBO super featherweight champion Adrien Broner as a flawed fighter.
Speaking with esnewsreporting.com after his win tonight, Russell Jr. said “He [Gamboa] has a lot of kinks in his armor. Once I compete against him, I will exploit.”
When asked if he thought he could beat Gamboa, Russell Jr. said “Most definitely.”
Russell Jr. wasn’t done, however. He said this about Adrien Broner: “He’s basically one dimensional. A lot of kinks in his armor…He’s not fundamentally sound. I feel these are places I can take advantage of.”
I think Russell Jr. is a good fighter, but I don’t see him as being in the same league as Gamboa or Broner or even Lopez for that matter. Gamboa and Broner are too big, too strong and too sound fundamentally for Russell Jr. It is interesting that Russell Jr. brings up the phrase fundamentally sound, because he really lacks head movement, as well as foot movement as well. Russell Jr. plods when he fights, and doesn’t seem capable of moving quickly with his feet.

I rather see broner vs gamboa right now russell need to step up his level of comp, but if that broner vs gamboa fight ever go down I like broner I think he will be to qucik for him people needs to realized that gamboa needs to get busy and do something cause his time is running out…. he is 30 years old so his quickness not always going to be there to compete with new young talents out there.
