The Ring finally moves Carl Froch to #2 behind Andre Ward at #1 in the SMW ratings. That means their fight against eachother will be for the Ring Belt.

WBC Belt

WBA Belt

The Ring

Big Payday

In that sense I the Super Six was successful. Unification bout, #1 vs #2 for the Ring belt and clear winner who is better than anyone else in the division (and please don't say Booootay is better the guy has done nothing).

It took a little long, but all in all it was worth it. Can't wait till Showtime gets the next tournament started.

Pacquiao: "If Mayweather Gets Past Ortiz, We Can Fight"

Pacquiao happy with Floyd’s decision to fight Ortiz in Sept.

MANILA, Philippines — Floyd Mayweather is making a ring comeback, something the pound-for-pound king believes is a sign they are destined to face each other in 2012.

“That’s good,” Pacquiao told the Bulletin as soon as his plane landed in General Santos City late Wednesday afternoon from Manila when told about Mayweather’s decision to come out of retirement.

Mayweather is scheduled to face Mexican-American Victor Ortiz for Ortiz’s World Boxing Council welterweight crown on Sept. 17 possibly at Cowbiys Stadium in Dallas, Texas, and Pacquiao thinks the choice of Ortiz as opponent is a no-brainer.

“Ortiz is a southpaw like me so I think Mayweather is preparing (to get used to a lefthander),” said Pacquiao, who is itching to get the chance to bang with the former holder of boxing’s most coveted mythical title.

And while Pacquiao is looking forward to a megabuck matchup with Mayweather, the Filipino star said Ortiz, a 24-year-old knockout artist, is not to be taken lightly.

Told about the possibility that he and Mayweather will finally get to trade power punches, Pacquiao said Ortiz’s style and youth pose dangers.

“If he gets past Ortiz (then we can fight).”

Like Mayweather, Pacquiao is also penciled to see action as he is booked to meet Juan Manuel Marquez of Mexico for the third time on Nov. 12 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

The 34-year-old Mayweather hasn’t fought since posting a lopsided decision over Shane Mosley in May 2010.

While Mayweather has been dormant, Pacquiao has been pretty active through the years, facing just about anybody put in front of him.

Efforts to stage a Pacquiao-Mayweather super fight have failed twice over the issue of random drug testing and purse split.

Now that Mayweather has decided to come out of his shell, it certainly looks like he is looking beyond the Ortiz bout.

By taking Ortiz off the table, Mayweather removes one more fighter for Pacquiao that he could have fought. Naturally, that doesn’t mean that Pacquiao won’t fight Ortiz at a later day to get sloppy seconds. We’ve already seen that Pacquiao isn’t concerned about being labeled by some boxing fans as a fighter that takes on Mayweather’s lefthovers, as a result of Pacquiao’s fights against Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton and soon to Marquez after Mayweather had already fought and beaten them all. Pacquiao can always face Ortiz after Mayweather beats him, but it might be the smartest thing for him to do. With Pacquiao facing guys like Miguel Cotto, Joshua Clottey, Antonio Margarito and Mosley, Mayweather may have upped the ante by facing a prime Ortiz rather than a handful of fighters that are arguably not the same fighters they once were due to the effects of age and terrible beatings.

Chavez-Zbik draws 1.5 viewers on HBO, making it the highest BAD total since 2007

By Dan Ambrose: Last weekend’s fight between WBC middleweight champion Sebastian Zbik (30-1, 10 KO’s) and challenger Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (43-0-1, 30 KO’s) brought in huge numbers in terms of viewers on HBO, according to news from Dan Rafael on his twitter page.

The Chavez-Zbik fight brought in an incredible 1.5 million viewers for the Saturday bout, making it the most viewed HBO Boxing After Dark (BAD) main event card since the Paulie Malignaggi vs. Lovemore Ndou fight back in June 2007. That tells you what kind of draw Chavez Jr. is because this was the only big named fighter on the entire card and his opponent Zbik was virtually an unknown fighter to the casual boxing fans in the United States.

Chavez Jr. won the fight by a 12 round majority decision in a hard fought and closely contested fight. Chavez Jr. trailed early on but then wore Zbik down with a powerful body attack in the 2nd half of the fight to get the win. For Chavez Jr., this is the second consecutive fight for him that has drawn huge ratings. His bout last January against fringe contender Billy Lyell also brought in big viewer ratings.

Now that Chavez Jr. has established that he can bring in good ratings on HBO the trick is for Chavez’s game to be improved enough to where his promoter Bob Arum can make Chavez Jr. a pay per view star with the American public. Given that Chavez Jr. barely beat Zbik, a fighter that a lot of boxing fans saw as a weak paper champion, Arum may have his work cut out for him in improving Chavez enough to where he can hold onto his WBC title long enough to cash in on his popularity among fans in the U.S market.

If Arum puts Chavez Jr. in with the best middleweights right now like Sergio Martinez and Dmitriy Pirog, Chavez Jr. will likely get decimated. Chavez Jr. also has a problem with his size. He weighed 180 lbs. the night of the Zbik fight, and that tells you that Chavez Jr. may be forced to move up in weight to the super middleweight division in a year or two. At super middleweight, Chavez Jr. likely would out of his class in terms of talent. Those fighters are much better than what Chavez Jr. has shown. Even with the great trainer Freddie Roach working on trying to improve him it’s doubtful that Chavez Jr. would ever be more than a contender at super middleweight. If Arum can improve Chavez Jr. enough where he can beat some of the contenders that he has lined up waiting for a title shot, he might be able to turn Chavez Jr. into a halfway decent PPV attraction.

Bute’s team makes offer to Kessler

By Eric Thomas: IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute’s management has made an offer to former super middleweight champ Mikkel Kessler (44-2, 33 KO’s) for a fight after Bute’s scheduled July 9th bout against number #1 contender Jean Paul Mendy. However, Kessler’s promoter has yet to say whether they’ll accept the offer from Bute’s management. According to Danish TV2, Kessler and his promoter Kalle Sauerland are waiting for the new rankings from the World Boxing Organization.

If Kessler is put in as the mandatory challenger for WBO super middleweight champion Robert Stieglitz then that may be the fight that Kessler will take instead of a bout against Bute. Kessler stopped Mehdi Bouadla last Saturday night in a 6th round TKO. It was the first fight for Kessler in over a year. He looked good but was a little rusty looking despite getting the win. A fight against Stieglitz would be a good move for Kessler, because he needs at least one more fight under his belt before he takes on a guy like Bute.

Stieglitz would be a good tune-up fight for Kessler. Stieglitz is a good fighter but he previously was beaten by Librado Andrade, a guy that Kessler easily beat by a lopsided 12 round decision in 2007. Obviously, Bute’s team realize that it would be better to face Kessler sooner rather than later after he’s had a couple of fights under his belt. Kessler is more vulnerable now because of his long layoff from action than what he’ll be after he beats Stieglitz and maybe one other guy.

Roger Mayweather: Ortiz is better than Pacquiao

By Chris Williams: Roger Mayweather, the uncle and trainer of boxing great Floyd Mayweather Jr., is quite pleased with Floyd’s choice of WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz (29-2-2, 22 KO’s) to fight on September 17th. Roger sees Ortiz as a very good fighter, even better than Manny Pacquiao.

In an interview at examiner.com, Roger said “I wouldn’t compare him [Ortiz] to Pacquiao. He’s better than Pacquiao; I know he is. Pacquiao aint going to fight [Mayweather] anyways. He wouldn’t even take a test; What does that tell you?”

I don’t know that Ortiz is a better fighter than Pacquiao but I do think he does somethings better than Pacquiao. I like Ortiz’s inside fighting skills much better than Pacquiao. Ortiz is very tough on the inside and can generate a lot of power at close range with both hands. Pacquiao is more of mid-range power puncher. He can’t get a lot of leverage in close on his shots the way that Ortiz does.

I also like Ortiz’s stamina right now. He’s looking stronger than Pacquiao in the later rounds. Ortiz’s work rate didn’t diminish one bit in the later rounds of his recent win over Andre Berto last April. He also didn’t lose any power on his shots. Ortiz was throwing with pretty much about the same kind of power in the 11th as he was in the 1st. In contrast, Pacquiao looked exhausted in the last four rounds of his fights against Joshua Clottey, Antonio Margarito and Shane Mosley.

I do like the way that Mayweather chose Ortiz. This pick is a lot better than the guys that Pacquiao has been facing in the past three years. Ortiz is at the very top of his game and isn’t someone on the slide or coming off a loss. He’s not just a fighter with a name who once was good. Ortiz is a hot fighter right now and is only going to get better. You have to give Mayweather a lot of credit for having the courage to take this fight.

Tony-It's about time people start opening there eyes to what Top Rank and Manny has been doing. Manny has became the P4P #1 fighter by fighting other peoples leftovers. He needs to stop running from that test and fight Mayweather already.

hbo has been getting views all year. hopkins-pascall II was the highest rated HBO fight in the past couple years. Khan-Maidana did great numbers. Bradley-Alexander did great numbers. Canelo vs Hatton was big. And as Chavez jr. showed even the Boxing After Dark cards are getting great numbers. Just about every fight HBO has put out this year has had great ratings (the only unknown one is Sergio Martinez vs Dzinziruk, they wont release those numbers for some reason (probably did bad)).

You notice that HBO has been putting together competitive fights without Pacquiao?
I honestly think you're a little retarded, man. You should have that checked out. I'm serious too no disrespect.

But because I'm curious as to how your defective brain works, how could Pac not being on HBO have anything to do with how competitive the other fights are for the remaining year? You realize Pac fights twice a year?
