Chad Dawson says Bernard Hopkins is “reluctant to face me”
By Dan Ambrose: For the past three years, former IBF/WBC light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson (29-1, 17 KO’s) has been trying to get Bernard Hopkins (51-5-2, 32 KO’s) to fight him but with zero luck. Hopkins has instead picked out vulnerable fighters like Winky Wright, Antonio Tarver, Kelly Pavlik, Roy Jones Jr., Enrique Ornelas, while losing to Joe Calzaghe.
Dawson, up until his poor performance in his 11th round technical decision to Jean Pascal last year, was considered by many to be the best fighter in the light heavyweight division. And despite that, Dawson still couldn’t get Hopkins to fight him for some reason. Recently, Hopkins was knocked down a couple of times and had to settle for a 12 round draw with WBC light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal.
The WBC has come to Hopkins’ rescue and are saying that Pascal has to give Hopkins and immediate rematch instead of allowing Pascal to fight a rematch with Dawson, who had a rematch clause with Pascal. Hopkins recently laid out his future plans for what he wants to do if he beats Pascal in a rematch by saying he wants to go after IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute. Dawson isn’t in Hopkins’ plans and you have to wonder why.
Dawson had this to say about Hopkins in an interview at eastsideboxing.com: “He [Hopkins[ is very reluctant to face me. I think that Bernard Hopkins saw the fight between me and Pascal and I definitely think he knew that wasn’t the Chad Dawson that he was used to seeing.”
Dawson is currently ranked at #1 WBC and #3 WBO. I don’t see Hopkins ever fighting him. Dawson has the skills and the style to make Hopkins look really bad, and with new trainer Emanuel Steward fixing the holes in his game, Dawson is going to be even better.

Rafael says David “The Ducker” Haye found another way out of the Wladimir fight
William Mackay: ESPN writer Dan Rafael believes that WBA heavyweight champion David Haye found yet another way to get out of a fight against one of the Klitschko brothers in his latest move. Haye, who was poised to fight IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko in a mega fight scheduled for July 2nd, decided to pull out of that fight after Wladimir said he would take a tune-up bout against Dereck Chisora on April 30th. Rafael believes Haye chose to pull out of the Wladimir fight in order to duck the fight with Wladimir.
In his article today at ESPN, Rafael said “David The Ducker Haye found another way out of their proposed fight, saying he wouldn’t allow Klitschko to take an interim bout. Fine. So Klitschko will fight Chisora, then move on to a likely September bout against Tomasz Adamek. Remember this: Haye, with his thin resume and no real legacy as a heavyweight, needs Klitschko a whole lot more than Klitschko needs him.”
Was Haye just looking for an excuse not to have to face Wladimir? It’s hard to see his actions as being someone that really wanted the Wladimir fight, because Wladimir’s tune-up bout against Chisora wasn’t going to impact him any other than removing a possible future opponent that Haye might like to fight in Chisora, while also making Wladimir more popular in the UK. Haye had the choice to fight a tune-up himself but instead decided to pull out of the fight and take on the much less popular Ruslan Chagaev in May

Dawson says Dirrell and Ward are the most talented of the Super Six tourney
By Scott Gilfoid: Two time light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson was speaking a lot of truth on Eastsideboxing’s On The Ropes Boxing Radio program today. Dawson gave his views on who he sees as the best fighters in the Super Six tournament, and made it clear that he sees WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward as the winner of the Super Six.
Dawson, who has a great eye for talent, also had some kind praise for Andre Dirrell, saying the two of them had great sparng sessions in the past, and putting Dirrell along with Ward as the best of the Super Six fighters.
Here’s what Dawson had to say about the Super Six tournament group:
“I mean you got to say Ward. Andre Ward, I think is the most talented. He’s definitely the most talented. I don’t know what’s going on with Dirrell but we had some great sparring sessions and Dirrell is a hell of a fighter. Froch? I’m not too big on Froch. He’s got that awkward style. I mean I definitely think Dirrell and Andre Ward are the most talented from that whole group.”
I totally agree with Mr. Dawson. He knows what he’s talking about. Dirrell and Ward are by far the most talented of that group. Glen Johnson has some talent too, but he’s not blazing fast and doesn’t have the silky moves like Dirrell and Ward. Those two are like watching stars from another level coming down to a lower tier to dazzle the limited fighters.
Dirrell would be right there in the semifinals with Ward had he not been injured by Arthur Abraham last year. Dirrell is still destined for greatness as soon as he recovers from his injury. He’s got to make his mark on the super middleweight division and it’s going to be something to see.

If anyone's interested there's another solid Cuban heavyweight coming up fighting out of Ireland ATM. And unlike most of the other Cuban's he defected at a young age and is giving himself a chance to get rounds in the professional game. Hopefully he takes a decent step up in his next bout.

Arum: Pacquiao Never Faced Someone With Mosley's Skill

On May 7 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Manny Pacquiao (52-3-2, 38 knockouts) will defend his WBO welterweight belt in an HBO pay per view televised against Shane Mosley (46-6-1, 39 KOs), even as his WBC junior middleweight belt will not be on the line. Pacquiao's selection of the aging Mosley has drawn criticism from the boxing community, but during a recent interview with FanHouse, Top Rank Promotions' CEO, Bob Arum.
"Manny Pacquiao, with all due respect, never has fought a fighter of the ability and the skill set of Mosley. Mosley is the epitome of an African American fighter with a style," said Arum.
"And even though he is a little on in age, he still has that style and he still has that punching power. "And I, for one, am curious as to how Pacquiao deals with that type of style, which he hasn't faced before. That's the interesting part of this fight."
Bernard Hopkins got the ball rolling a few months ago when making critical comments about the lack of African American opponents on Pacquiao's record.
"Bernard Hopkins took some criticism for saying what he said, but Hopkins is a good student of the game," said Arum. "It's not any racist kind of thing that he's saying. It's just that the African American style that we all know -- and, even though not every African American fights that style -- but the African American style is a distinct style."

By Michael Lieberman: Trainer Emanuel Steward says that the winner of the March 12th bout between his fighter middleweight contender Andy Lee (24-1, 18 KO’s) and fringe middleweight contender John Duddy (29-2, 18 KO’s) will be facing World Boxing Council (WBC) middleweight champion Sergio Martinez next, according to the latest news. Lee, 26, was supposed have been selected to fight Martinez this time around, but HBO didn’t like the idea of a fight between Lee and Martinez. Instead, the preferred the match-up between Martinez and unbeaten WBO junior middleweight champion Sergeii Dzinziruk as the better fight.
In an article at irish-boxing.com, Steward said “I am 80% certain Andy and John will meet on March 12th. Andy was meant to challenge Martinez for the world title but Martinez was forced to take on the mandatory challenger. Now Andy will fight Duddy and it looks like the winner will then get to fight Martinez, who is the biggest name in the middleweight division or Dzinziruk depending who wins their fight. Andy Lee is the most logical challenger for a middleweight world title. John Duddy is also a big name in America but he is not respected as he once was.”
I’m not sure that Duddy was ever really respected by boxing fans. As far as I can tell, Duddy has always been seen as a club-type fighter, someone that works hard but doesn’t have great skills or power. He’s never been seen as a threat to champions like former WBC/WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik. Lee also is someone that isn’t that well thought of by boxing fans. Lee had a brief moment in 2007 and early 2008, when some boxing fans thought he might possibly have the talent to win a title. However, those hopes were put down when Lee was taken out by Bryan Vera in a 7th round TKO in March 2008.
Lee has done very little since then, winning his last nine fights against nothing but 2nd tier opponents. It’s good that Steward is finally matching Lee against the fringe contender Duddy, but it’s bad that Lee hasn’t been put in with better fighters than Duddy, because he really needed to have been fighting a lot better opponents than Duddy a long time ago. Even if he does beat Duddy, Lee has no chance against Martinez. Lee is just a shade better than Duddy in my book, and he doesn’t match up with Martinez.

Wladimir says “I can’t count on this loser” [Haye]
Dan Ambrose: IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (55-3, 49 KO’s) didn’t trust WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (25-1, 23 KO’s) enough to go straight into their July 2nd bout without a tune-up, he says. Wladimir, 34, was worried that Haye would once again pull out of their fight at the last minute and leave Wladimir without a fight again, just as Haye had done to Wladimir in 2009, when Haye pulled out of his fight with him with only two weeks to go before their June 20th scheduled fight date.
Waldimir then had to fight Ruslan Chagaev to use as a replacement for Haye. That episode left a negative impression in Wladimir’s mind towards Haye. Recently, Wladimir and Haye were on course to fight on July 2nd. However, after Wladimir said he would fight a tune-up bout against Dereck Chisora on April 30th, Haye pulled out of the fight, saying he doesn’t want any part of the Klitschkos anymore.
In an article at sportsillustrated.cnn.com, Wladimir explains his reasons for taking the tune-up bout: “This guy [Haye] is a liar. I don’t to make the same mistake I made last time and end up without a fight. This is my time. I can’t count on this loser.”
Wladimir has also scheduled a fight against Tomasz Adamek for September in Poland. This leaves Haye of the picture for the remainder of 2011, unless Haye is willing to come back to the bargaining table and accept the July 2nd date against Wladimir. Given that Haye plans on retiring in October, he needs to accept what has been given to her by Wladimir. Haye doesn’t have much choice unless he wants to take on WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko, and it’s pretty clear that Haye wants nothing to do with Vitali because of his strong chin and the way he tends to brutalize his opponents.

Pacquiao-Mosley fight contracts signed
By Chris Williams: The fight contracts for the Manny Pacquiao vs. Shane Mosley bout have reportedly been finally signed and the bout is set to ahead for May 7th at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Pacquiao, 32, is guaranteed a minimum of $15 million for the fight and the 39-year-old Mosley could end up making as much as $7 million or more if it brings in more than 1 million pay per view buys. The fight itself figures to be a huge mismatch, as Mosley’s best years are far behind in the rear view mirror.
Mosley would probably be lucky to even beat Antonio Margarito at this point, because Mosley appears to have lost a lot of his skills in the past year. Mosley was chosen for his name, not because he actually had a chance to beat Pacquiao. If they wanted someone that would have a good chance of beating Pacquiao, they would have selected counter puncher Juan Manuel Marquez, Andre Berto, Sergio Martinez or Paul Williams. But instead they have opted for the low risk, high reward fight against the badly faded Mosley.
The good thing is the general boxing world, the ones that will be scooping this fight up and paying huge cash for it on PPV, probably won’t have a clue how shot Mosley is. As such, they’ll have to find out the hard way when after the fight starts, Mosley goes into early shut down mode after gassing out in two or three rounds. The rest of the fight will likely be one where Pacquiao beats up on an old punching bag that’s too slow, too frozen and too beat up to let his hands go.

Haye Responds To Tarver: Tells Him Chagaev First

As we recently reported on BoxingScene.com, former light heavyweight champion Antonio Tarver (28-6, 19KOs), who is now a heavyweight contender, has called out WBA champion David Haye (25-1, 23KOs). Tarver sent a personal message to Haye, making a direct challenge for an April fight.
"David Haye, it's Antonio Tarver. I hear you got some free time on your hands since you and Wladimir Klitschko had to push back. How about you and I get a date around April you can call it your U.S. debut. It's the biggest fight you can make [with a name] that don't end in Klitschko," wrote Tarver.
Haye issued a response and told Tarver that a WBA mandatory obligation was the first order of business. Ruslan Chagaev is the mandatory challenger to Haye. The fight does have its own share of problems with Chagaev's Hepatitis B status. A recent report on BoxingScene revealed that the British Board of Control is likely going to reject Chagaev's application to box in the UK.
Haye replied - "thanks for offer. I have a mandatory to knock out [in] May-June before I'm free for any unification/voluntary. Keep doing your thing!"

WBA champion Haye last week said he was "done" with Klitschko and his brother Vitali, after talks over a heavyweight unification bout broke down when Wladimir agreed to fight Dereck Chisora on April 30.
Thirty-year-old Haye has vowed to retire when he turns 31 in October, and had hoped to fight Wladimir on July 2.
But he says he can no longer do that as a result of the Chisora date, while Klitschko is now in talks to fight Tomasz Adamek in September.
Klitschko, though, insists Haye can side-step his mandatory challenger, Ruslan Chagaev, and then face him in July.
Speaking to ESPN, he said: "I don't take David Haye as a super-special fight. I don't need a half a year to prepare for this fight. I'm always in shape anyway.
"Me fighting Chisora first is good promotion for the fight with David Haye because the guy is also British and very loud. It's perfect to help promote the big fight.
"He could give Chagaev step-aside money and then I'm going to be there with nobody to fight. Because of our history before, I would fight him July 2 and we would work on the contract, but I would fight Chisora first and make sure I fight.
"There have a been a lot of lies from David Haye and (trainer) Adam Booth. We found a date, July 2, to fight him, but I don't trust these guys any more."
Haye claimed last week that if Klitschko did not fight him before his retirement date, the Ukrainian would be forever linked with failing to fight him.
But Klitschko does not believe Haye will end his career this year as he will not want his legacy to be his one-sided win over Audley Harrison.
He said: "He's telling everyone, 'I'm going to retire by the end of the year and I will have my legacy'. He's going to have a legacy for the Audley Harrison fight - the most exciting heavyweight fight in history.
"He has no legacy whatsoever. He has this terrible disease and he has to retire? What bulls**t is that? This is total nonsense. He is playing the media. He will not retire because he's a liar, liar, liar. From the beginning to the end, he's a loser liar. That's the truth about this man.

Is there trouble brewing between the two best fighters from the Philippines?
On Feb. 19 at the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas, an HBO-televised clash will be promoted by Top Rank Promotions featuring WBA interim super flyweight titlist Nonito Donaire (25-1, 17 knockouts) of the Philippines and WBO and WBC bantamweight king Fernando Montiel (44-2-2, 34 KOs) of Mexico.
Top Rank's CEO, Bob Arum, considers Donaire to be the No. 2 fighter from the Philippines behind eight-division titlist Manny Pacquiao (52-3-2, 38 KOs), who is also promoted under the same company.
According to Rachel Donaire, the wife of Nonito, Team Pacquiao does not want her husband to appear on their undercards.
Top Rank had floated the idea of Nonito Donaire taking an undercard position to last November's fight between Pacquiao and Antonio Margarito at Cowboys Stadium. Rachel told FanHouse that Michael Koncz, the adviser to Pacquiao, called Top Rank and had Nonito pulled from the show. Rachel thinks the reason for Team Pacquiao's position is because Nonito is not promoted under MP Promotions, which is Manny Pacquiao's promotional company.
"I know for a fact that the November fight, Koncz called in and asked them to take him off the card. From what I heard it's Michael Koncz doing all the dealings because Nonito is not with MP Promotions and he doesn't want him on the cards," Rachel said.
The mutual promoter of both fighters sees no reason to place both of them on the same card. The combination of both fighters on the same card would be an overhaul on the Filipino audience, says Arum.
"Why? There's a limit to how much ice cream you could eat. You have the biggest Philippine attraction in Manny Pacquiao. The last thing I need is another Filipino on the card," Arum said

During a recent interview with Lem Satterfield of FanHouse/BoxingScene.com, the 45-year-old veteran made some interesting comments reagrding the issue of race, and how it relates to boxing and the big fight between Manny Pacquiao and Shane Mosley, which happens on May 7 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Hopkins made huge headlines in November when he spoke to Satterfield about Pacquiao possibly avoiding African American fighters.
In November, Hopkins was critical of Pacquiao and questioned why the Filipino boxer had not fought an African American fighter with a "slick style" of boxing. Many insiders believe the comments by Hopkins were a ploy to help his good friend, Mosley, land the Pacquiao fight. This time around, Hopkins examined the difference between African American fighters, and those who hail from other backgrounds.
"The athleticism that we possess and that we are born with, most of us, not all of us, but most of us -- because I've seen some awkward black guys that can't even tie their shoes. But the blessing of most of us is that we've run the races," said Hopkins.

Carl Froch-Glen Johnson Heading To Montreal in May?

According to information obtained by Vincent Morin of 24H, the President of Interbox, Jean Bedard, said Showtime was seriously considering the possibility of staging one of the semi-final bouts of the Super Six tournament in Montreal.
Bedard also confirmed what had been reported Luc Legendre RDS last week, that the fight between Carl Froch and Glen Johnson was very close to taking place March 19 at the Bell Centre. This duel would have been on the same event as the Showtime televised bout, Lucian Bute vs. Brian Magee. However, Froch was suffering from an illness and requested a delay. So now the duel that could eventually be played out during the month of May. According to Jean Bedard, the main co-feature could involve a duel between Adrian Diaconu and Chris Henry. If you recall, this fight will be sanctioned by the WBC and the winner will become mandatory to the world currently held by Jean Pascal.
This is not the first time where a fight in the Super Six is possibly going to land in Montreal. In June 2010, Montreal was among the targeted cities being considered for the third stage bout between Arthur Abraham and Carl Froch. The fight eventually took place in Helsinki, Finland.
Earlier this week, while he was visiting Madison Square Garden in New York to attend the game between the Montreal Canadians and the Rangers, IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute had also confirmed that he would face the winner of the Super Six at MSG. This possibility had been raised by Bute and Jean Bedard during the announcement of Bute signing a multi-fight deal with the American network Showtime who is staging the tournament. Lucian Bute has also been named best athlete of Romania for the year 2010, which is the third consecutive year.

Hopkins is right. Other races have their advantages in other aspects of genetics (ie-asian brains are larger), but black people are able to build muscle and lose fat easier than others.
There have been plenty of hormonal studies performed on different races and African's (on average) have had higher testosterone (total and free), IGF, T3, etc.
Higher testosterone also leads to higher aggression, which some may believe as why a lot of crimes are committed by them, detained in prison, etc.
It all comes down to genetics. All the studies are based on averages.

I think hopkins is specifically talking about african american's, not blacks as a race. There is some truth into the good genes with slavery etc., without making this thread into anything more than it should obviously the fitter/stronger slaves were captured, sold and had to survive, and there is even evidence of slave breeding in america, so obviously some of those good genetics would be passed down.
But more importantly bhop probably talks more about the african american style of fighting, which is sort of unique. It's different then say a african fighter from Uganda or some shit. Not that shane mosley fits into this style of fighting at all, but whatever.
