It's looking more and more likely Floyd vs Pac will happen this year. Both camps have been quite, which is a good thing. Means business. Even bob arum hasn't revealed much, but one interesting thing is he said Margarito will fight this year and it will be on the Pac-Floyd undercard. That's a good sign.

I asked him if Margarito will be fighting soon, this year. He just gave me a smile along with a nod. This was when I sneaked in the big question. I asked, “When Margarito fights again, will it be in the undercard for Mayweather vs. Pacquiao?” Bob Arum said, “Yes”!

It's a stay busy fight for Khan set for July which is why he's fighting old ass Casamayor and not someone with a better chance, from my understanding.

I wont knock him for it I don't mind guys taking lesser opponents to stay active, as long as they step up the competition immediately after that is.

Emanuel Steward Appoached About Kronk Reality Series

By Lem Satterfield

Respected boxing trainer, Emanuel "Manny" Steward was recently approached concerning a potential television series devoted to "The Kronk Gym," which he ran in Detroit.

"I've been told that there is something in the works right now to do a complete television series called, 'The Kronk,'" said Steward. "It's going to go beyond the boxing and all of the other things that the children that we taught had to overcome just in their every day lives living in the neighborhood."

Run out of the basement of the oldest recreation center, "The Kronk" was a refuge for inner city youth, producing such boxing champions as Hilmer Kenty, Thomas Hearns, Milton McCrory, and, Jimmy Paul.

"The kids always had to deal with the drug-dealers, stuff like that. I mean, there's a whole lot more to what we did at The Kronk than just the boxing," said Steward of a gym which opened in 1920, and closed in 2006. "It's about the childhoods of all of the fighters, and the tough things that they always had to endure just to live a decent life or simply to survive the streets."

Steward was reached in New York, where he preparing former three-time world champion, Miguel cotto (34-2, 27 knockouts), for Saturday night's challenge against WBA junior middleweight (154 pounds) champion, Yuri Foreman (28-0, eight KOs).

Casamayor: I'm Knocking Amir Khan Out Dead

By Rick Reeno

Former two division champion Joel Casamayor (37-4, 22KOs) and co-manager Luis DeCubas Jr. reached out to BoxingScene.com to set the record straight on all of the rumors pertaining to a possible fight with WBA junior welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17KOs).

According to DeCubas, the fight between Khan and Casamayor is very close to being finalized for July 31 in England. Casamayor has accepted the fight, although the money being negotiated is lower than the amount of £400000 being reported by some of the UK papers.

DeCubas and co-manager Walter Kane are in the process of finalizing the details with Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer. Khan-Casamayor will indeed be packaged, likely on a delayed basis, with the Juan Manuel Marquez-Juan Diaz HBO pay-per-view, which takes place on July 31 in Las Vegas.

Casamayor has vowed to emulate Breidis Prescott, who scored a brutal 54-second knockout over Khan in 2008. The 1992 Olympic gold medal winner is irritated with some of comments being put out there in the press where people are underestimating his chances based on age.

"July 31 is a go. Come July 31 lightning is going to strike twice because I'm going to knock Amir Khan out dead," Casamayor said. "I want to let the people know that I'm up for this fight."

"A lot of people are putting bad things out there. Timothy Bradley, [Marcos] Maidana and [Devon] Alexander, these guys have done nothing for this sport. What have they done for this sport? I'm a four-time world champ in two weight classes. Amir Khan has done nothing either and come July 31st I'm going to prove that he's a nobody."

DeCubas tells BoxingScene that Casamayor has already begun to train for the big opportunity.

"July 31st is basically the date that we're fighting Amir Khan. They money hasn't really been squared away 100%. We're working on that now. But Joel is going. Joel is training and he's ready to go," DeCubas said. "Joel has put his time in the game and he's going to prove it on July 31st."

During Khan's pre-fight hype for last month's bout with Paulie Malignaggi, there was a lot of trash talking going on. DeCubas is not concerned about any of the pre-fight antics coming from Khan or his team.

"Do you think Amir Khan can play head games with Casamayor? Casamayor played head games with [Diego] Corrales and real fighters. Not made up stars," DeCubas said

Arum Hit With Huge Qatar Offer For Mayweather-Pacquiao

By Rick Reeno

Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao is without question the biggest fight in boxing. Because there is so much money to be made, investors from all over the world are trying to get involved. Top Rank CEO Bob Arum confirmed to BoxingScene.com that he was approached by parties in Qatar and Abu Dhabi, who are interested in staging the Mayweather-Pacquiao event.

The party from Qatar is not looking to stage the fight overseas. They want to stage the fight in the United States.

"I got a call from Qatar, where they offered a number that was so crazy..... not to do the fight over there, [but] to do the fight here in the United States," Arum said.

How crazy was the number?

Last December, when Mayweather-Pacquiao was being negotiated for a failed March date, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones offered a guarantee of $25 million to host the event at Cowboys Stadium in Texas. Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated was the only other reporter involved in the conversation, and he asked Arum directly if the offer from Qatar was bigger than the offer presented by Jones in December. Arum replied "way bigger."

Because the party from Qatar is interested in hosting the event in the United States, Arum is somewhat puzzled as to their monetary motives to recoup their sizable investment. He believes their interests lie with the gate.

"I have no idea. I said 'look, what are you interested in?' Sponsorships? [They said] no. Pay-Per-View? [They said] no. They are interested in the gate. The thing is with Mayweather and Pacquiao, is that Pacquiao is gold for the casinos because virtually every Asian gambler, high roller, wants to be at a Pacquiao fight and wants to come to Las Vegas - and that then translates into multi-million dollars. More than the pay-per-view [revenue]. Whoever gets those good seats, gets players who play $250,000 a hand and you got those sons of bitches all weekend," Arum said.

"They don't want the fight in Qatar. They want the fight presumably in Vegas or some state. But yes I did get the call, a letter from Abu Dhabi offering me gazillions [and] my own camel. And I got this call Saturday from Qatar

What will Roach do when the Pacquiao gravy train ends?

By Dave Lahr: Trainer Freddie Roach has been seventh heaven the last few years in training Manny Pacquiao. Not only has Roach been able to train one of the best fighters in boxing, but he’s also been probably the best paid trainer by far in the sport. However, with Pacquiao about at the end of his career and staring at possibly his one last fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr., Roach won’t have a similar star like Pacquiao to take up the slack once Pacquiao is gone.

Roach has had some good years with Pacquiao and he’s likely set for life with the good money that he’s received while training Manny. Roach trains a number of fighters, such as Amir Khan, but none of them are in the same class as Pacquiao and none bring him the big bucks that Pacquiao does. Roach thinks that Khan can be another huge mega star like Pacquiao, but I’m not so sure about that. Khan hasn’t shown to be anywhere near as good, as tough and durable as Pacquiao has.

I can see how they’re bringing Khan along slowly by matching him against weak punchers and older fighters that aren’t much of a threat to knock him out. However, I don’t think the boxing public will buy into Khan and see him as a Pacquiao-like replacement mega star unless Khan is matched against the very best in the junior welterweight division.

So far, that’s not happening. Khan is being put in with the faded stars of yesterday rather than the top light welterweights like Marcos Maidana, Devon Alexander and Timothy Bradley. More than that, they’re positioning Khan against older lightweights like Joel Casamayor and possibly Juan Manuel Marquez instead of fighters from Khan’s weight class. It’s possible that the casual boxing fans, which for the most part only have a passing knowledge about the sport, will see Khan’s fights and see him as a mega star worthy fighter that they would be interested in seeing on pay-per-view in droves.

But I’m not sure if enough of them will do it to make Khan as huge a star as Pacquiao is producing good PPV numbers. As such, I think once Pacquiao goes, Roach is going to be without a big cash cow for the time being unless Khan can somehow be put in with better fighters and avoid being knocked out again.

yeah I was a bit hesitant to post those vids, watched them both a couple weeks ago.

His death video is a little strange. Seems weird that you could hang yourself with your pants so close to the ground and how they wouldn't have a guard watching him or whatever. But who knows.

RIP. Could have been a great.

Roach: Amir Khan Ready For Bradley, Alexander, Katsidis

By Mark Vester

Trainer Freddie Roach says WBA junior welterweight champion Amir Khan is ready to take on all comers at 140-pounds. Roach, speaking with The Telegraph, fired off at the camp of Michael Katsidis who claimed Amir was ducking their fight. Roach stated what BoxingScene.com had reported numerous times, it was going to cost too much money to get Katsidis in the ring for July 31. Former champion Joel Casamayor has agreed to face Khan on the date.

Amir Khan's trainer Freddie Roach has hit back at claims from Michael Katsidis' camp that the WBA light-welterweight champion was ducking a potential bout as it represented too much of a risk.

"I hear they were talking to Katsidis but he wanted too much money," Roach said. "Amir will back in the gym soon. He has to be. He fought a great fight in New York against Paulie Malignaggi. If he does take the fight on July 31, he needs to get back over here and get in the gym this week. My view is that Amir is ready for anyone right now."

Roach then had some choice words for the fighters regarded as the best in Khan's weight division - Timothy Bradley and Devon Alexander.

"Who is Devon Alexander anyway? We've seen him on TV, I've seen him once and I didn't see anything special," Roach said. "The other guy, Bradley, one of my young boxers Jose Benavidez [age 18] sparred with him and had no trouble and he struggled in a recent fight, but looked good in his last fight."

Andre Berto Willing To Move Up For Miguel Cotto Clash

By Rick Reeno

WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto is looking for a big fight, and he's ready to take some chances to get it. A few weeks back, Berto's promoter Lou DiBella advised BoxingScene.com that his fighter was willing to move down a couple of pounds to face any of top guys at 140-pounds.

The money at 147-pounds has dried up. Shane Mosley is taking some time off. Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao are interested in each other.

Berto watched Miguel Cotto's victory over Yuri Foreman to capture the WBA junior middleweight title this past Saturday at Yankee Stadium in New York. Cotto is not a big junior welterweight. Most of the top guys at 154-pounds will give him a lot of problems. Following the Foreman win, Cotto acknowledged the possibility of moving back to welterweight.

DiBella tells BoxingScene that Berto is willing to move up a few pounds to 154 - if a fight with Cotto is available.

"Andre Berto would move up to 154-pounds, for a fight with Miguel Cotto. Berto would move down a few pounds to fight any of the names at 140 and he would move up up a few pounds for a fight with Cotto," DiBella told BoxingScene.com

Audley Harrison Vacates, Targets David Haye, Klitschkos

Audley Harrison has vacated his European heavyweight title, opening the door to a showpiece World title fight when he makes his return from injury in October.

The 38 year-old had an operation on a pectoral muscle last month to correct the injury that forced him to fight one-handed against Michael Sprott from the fourth round of their European title bout at Alexandra Palace in April. The injury hampered Harrison for the remainder of the fight until he produced a stunning last-gasp knockout victory to land the title he is now surrendering.

Harrison has a number of options available to him for his early winter return, with his promoter Eddie Hearn saying there is potentially Britain’s biggest fight ever against David Haye in the pipeline.

“Everyone wants to fight Audley because they know what he brings to the table,” said Hearn. “He will be installed as the mandatory challenger for the European title but we are also in discussions with the Klitchko’s and Adam Booth and David Haye regarding a World title shot later this year. We are keeping our options open right now but the Haye fight is huge. Audley's last two appearances in the UK have attracted record viewing figures, so couple that with David Haye's popularity and this is the biggest fight the UK has ever seen.”

Harrison’s career has been a roller-coaster ride since he turned professional after claiming Olympic gold in 2000. The Londoner has been in the headlines throughout his career, winning the WBF heavyweight title before sparking rivalries with Danny Williams and Sprott. After to moving to America, a chance meeting with Hearn in Las Vegas saw Harrison sign-up for Prizefighter, scooping the title at ExCeL in October – and he says he is ready to grab the headlines again by taking a shot at the world title.

“I'm told by my promoters that both David Haye and the Klitchko's brothers have expressed an interest in facing me when I return after rehab,” said Harrison. “If it’s either Klitchko brother, the task will be hard, but that's how I want it. I respect both brothers as they are effective at what they do but both can be beat. As I said before David Haye is a false Prophet, one punch on that chin and it will shatter like glass. If I was him, I'd keep running from the Klitchko's and keep beating up on shop worn American heavyweights. Whatever the route I will find a way to fulfil my destiny and become Heavyweight Champion of the World.”

Malignaggi: Without Drug Tests, Pacquiao Will Beat Floyd

By Mark Vester

Former junior welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi continues to voice suspicions about Manny Pacquiao. Malignaggi has never been shy about going on the record with his feelings about Pacquiao. He believes the Filipino champion is using performance enhancing drugs, and won't be convinced otherwise unless Pacquiao decides to take part in a random drug testing protocol.

When he spoke with AOL's Boxing FanHouse, Malignaggi gave his prediction on a possible November fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao. He continues to feel that Pacquiao's decision to take part in a random drug testing protocol will decide the outcome of the fight.

"You guys know how I feel about that. With the tests, Mayweather [wins]. Without the tests, Pacquiao [wins]. That's my feeling on it," Malignaggi said

James Kirkland To Be Released From Prison on October 2

By Mark Vester

Undefeated junior middleweight prospect James Kirkland (25-0, 22KOs) will be released from prison on October 2 and could fight again before the year is out. Kirkland's manager Cameron Dunkin gave Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports the good news. Kirkland will enter a halfway house to finish up the remainder of his sentence. BoxingScene.com was previously told by Kirkland's co-manager and attorney, Michael Miller, that he would be able to leave the halfway house to train, and fight.

Kirkland has been away from the ring since last March, when he stopped Joel Julio in six rounds. He was set to fight on the Manny Pacquiao-Ricky Hatton pay-per-view last May, but those plans were broken when he was arrested last April for unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. The first fight back will likely be a tune-up at a higher weight. Kirkland has put on some pounds in prison. Following his release, he will shed off the weight to resume his run at 154-pounds

Abraham-Froch Eyed For The Bell Centre, Approval Needed

By Ruslan Chikov

The super middleweight fight between Arthur Abraham and Carl Froch is being pushed for the Bell Centre in Canada on September 18. BoxingScene.com reported over the weekend that Abraham vs Froch was being discussed for Montreal to settle the ongoing dispute over the site. Abraham-Froch is part of the third stage of fights in Showtime's Super Six Boxing Classic.

Froch told The Sun - "I'm more than happy to go to Canada because all I want is a fair crack. I won't fight anywhere in Europe unless it's Britain. They're looking at a neutral venue. It's my turn to fight at home and I'm not fighting Abraham in Germany. London or Manchester would be classed as a neutral venue because I'm from Nottingham - and of course I would be happy for the fight to take place there."

Golzka reports that neither Sauerland Event [promoters of Abraham] or Showtime have given their final approval for a venue in Canada. Sauerland has pointed out a few times a clause in the contract which calls for a venue in Europe.
