Arum: Cotto vs Pacquiao, Foreman vs Margarito Possible

By Rick Reeno

There is going to be a lot at stake next Saturday night at New York's Yankee Stadium. The HBO televised event will feature Miguel Cotto moving up to junior middleweight to challenge undefeated WBA champion Yuri Foreman. The winner will have some lucrative options in the aftermath. The exact options are dependent on the outcome of the Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao negotiations.

If Cotto beats Foreman, and the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight falls through, the Puerto Rican star would be in line for a rematch with Pacquiao in November, and that fight would take place at 154-pounds. Pacquiao stopped Cotto in the twelfth round of their fight last November to capture the WBO welterweight crown. If Foreman wins, then Arum expects Pacquiao to fight Antonio Margarito. A few months back, Pacquiao passed on a Foreman fight aand Arum doesn't expect his decision to change.

If a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight is made, then Antonio Margarito becomes a frontrunner to fight the Cotto- Foreman winner. Margarito-Foreman is more likely than Margarito-Cotto II. During numerous interviews, Cotto has held the position that he will never fight Margarito in a rematch. While never making a direct accusation, Cotto hints at the possibility that Margarito loaded his gloves for their fight in July of 2008, which Margarto won by TKO in eleven.

"If the Mayweather deal gets made with Pacquiao, the winner of this fight [Cotto-Foreman] would be a natural for Antonio Margarito. If the Mayweather deal is not made, Pacquiao might fight Miguel Cotto, if Cotto beats Foreman, for the 154-pound title. I don't think Manny would fight Yuri Foreman because he says Yuri is too tall," Arum told BoxingScene.com.

Schaefer: Amir Khan's Options are Casamayor, Katsidis

By Robert Morales

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer informed BoxingScene.com that he is working on Amir Khan's next fight, which he is hopeful will take place on July 31 in England. Two of the possible opponents for Khan's next defense of the WBA junior welterweight title - are former champions Joel Casamayor and Michael Katsidis.

If Khan's fight comes together for that date, Schaefer said he would package that fight with the rematch between Juan Diaz and Juan Manuel Marquez that night at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. Both would be televised as part of an HBO pay-per-view feed.

"And the winners [of both bouts] might fight each other," Schaefer said to BoxingScene.com

Team Pacquiao: Floyd Mayweather Demands More Money

By Mark Vester

If a fight with Manny Pacquiao is back on the table, Floyd Mayweather Jr. wants more money than previously offered at the start of the year. Earlier this year Mayweather agreed to a 50-50 split on the money. This second time around the former five division champion wants a bigger slice of the pie. If Mayweather wants more than 50-50, Pacquiao's lawyer and business manager have said the fight "will never happen."

“We just got word that it seems to be that way,” said Pacquiao’s lawyer, Franklin Gacal to The Philippine Star. “But we will never agree to that."

Mayweather has based his new demands on the pay-per-view numbers. His buyrate for the May 1 Mosley pay-per-view was 1.4 million and he is matching it up against Pacquiao's number of 700,000 for the March pay-per-view with Joshua Clottey. Gacal says Mayweather is looking at the wrong event and should focus on Pacquiao's buyrate for last November's fight with Miguel Cotto, which did 1.25 million buys.

“It’s the Cotto fight they should look at and not the Clottey fight. And it’s pretty even, so we’re sticking to the fifty-fifty percent split between Manny and Floyd if they ever fight,” said Gacal.

Pacquiao’s business manager, Eric Pineda, was also advised that Mayweather wanted a bigger share of the money.

“Yes, we were told that Floyd now wants a bigger share. And if that’s the case, we now feel that he really doesn’t want to fight Manny because Floyd knows we will never agree on that,” said Pineda.

The news comes down only days after Pacquiao agreed to Mayweather's prior demand for random drug testing to take place until 14-days prior to a tentative fight date. The second time around, Mayweather may request for the testing to continue until the day of the fight.

Mayweather vs. Pacquiao could be getting made

According to Michael Marley of Examiner.com, he believes that the mega fight between WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. is getting made. Marley believes that after seeing Arum and noticing his smile and smirk. Marley says he’s watched Arum for 40 years and knows him really well. He feels that judging by how happy Arum has been lately that the fight is likely close to being made. Marley says that Pacquiao will be flying into New York next Wednesday and he thinks that the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight will be pretty much finalized by that point.

It says a lot about Marley’s intuition to be able to read Arum so well, because Marley is seeing all this based on Arum’s smirk and smile. There’s a gag rule that Arum put on himself for discussing the negotiations with the media, but Marley thinks Arum already gave it away with how happy he is. Marley is guessing that the fight will be announced by mid June in a press conference and thinks that the purse split will be 50-50 based on how happy Arum is looking. I

f this was any other writer, I wouldn’t believe him, but Marley has been around for a long time and is well familiar with Arum, and his non verbal communication. Some people are like a book, you can read them even when they’re not talking. Marley feels that Arum is like this

Fights that would make 2010 a great year for boxing: Khan-Bradley, Mayweather-Pacquia

By Andy James: After reading articles on boxingnews24.com for the past year or so now, I have decided to write an article of my own. I thought for my first article I would write about some of the fights I would like to see in rest of 2010, starting with domestic fights here in Britain.

John Murray vs. Kevin Mitchell

John Murray’s last performance was an impressive 11th round stoppage of Gary Buckland in which he added the European lightweight title to his British title. Murray is good fighter with decent power, who likes to fight on the inside and should be fighting for a world title within next year.

In contrast Kevin Mitchell is coming off a devastating 3rd round TKO defeat against Michael Katsidis, which has probably ended any chance of world title shot for him any time soon; Mitchell is still only 25 years old and has plenty of time to fight for a world title before the end of his career.

This would be excellent fight between two fighters who one day will be world champions and it would get winner one step closer to that dream. It’s difficult to predict the winner of this one, as we don’t know how the defeat for Mitchell will affect him in future, hopefully he will come back as good as ever, sticking with his new style which helped him beat Breidis Prescott but also trading punches with his opponents as he did before.

Darren Barker vs. Matthew Macklin

This is a fight that fans in Britain have wanted to see for a while now, both fights are undefeated at middleweight with Macklin’s two defeats coming at light middleweight. Barker is the European champion and looks on the verge of world level. Barker is a well rounded boxer with good movement, fast hands and decent power. His last performance wasn’t the best I have seen from him, when he beat Affif Belghecham by unanimous decision to win the European crown.

Macklin has been in great form since his last defeat against Jamie Moore in 2006 and also looks on the verge of world level, his two best performances came last year first of all stopping Wayne Elcock in 3rd round to claim the British middleweight title in March and then in his next fight in September stopping veteran Amin Asikainen in the 1st round to win the European title knocking him down twice before the referee stopped the fight.

This could go either way, if Macklin wins it would probably be an early stoppage but if it went to a decision Barker would probably win. What ever the result it would be a great fight to watch and a good possibly opponent for the winner would be former WBC and WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik.

That’s it for the domestic fights in Britain, now for the world level fights and I will start with obvious one.

Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao

This is the fight the world has wanted to see ever since Mayweather announced he was coming out of retirement to face Juan Manuel Marquez last year. The problem has always been blood testing that Mayweather has insisted he wants all his future opponents to take. Now that Mosley did it, Pacquiao has agreed to do it as well with a 14 day cut off point. That means that this fight should be made for some point this year as everything was agreed earlier this year but the negotiations broken down because of the blood testing asked for by Mayweather, sounds like a done deal but I will very surprised if it’s that easy.

Mayweather’s last fight was one sided decision win against Shane Mosley, a fight in which many people thought he struggle against a bigger welterweight but he completely out classed Mosley using his quick countering style. Pacquiao is also coming off a one sided victory against Joshua Clottey, a fight which everyone know he was going to win but at the end of the fight he was a lot marked up than we are used to seeing him and considering Clottey didn’t throw that many punches it showed Pacquiao weakness is his defence.

My prediction for this fight is that it will be a great fight with Pacquiao catching Mayweather a few times with big shots early in the fight, which will make Pacquiao going looking for the KO, leaving himself open for Mayweather who will be too quick and counter him all night. Mayweather wins unanimous decision.

David Haye vs. Wladimir Klitschko

Haye’s last fight his first defence of his WBA heavyweight title was an impressive 9th round TKO stoppage against John Ruiz. Ruiz is fighter known for having solid chin but Haye managed to knock him down 4 times before Ruiz’s corner rightly stop the fight in the 9th round. Haye’s previous fight against giant Nikolay Valuev less impressive, this was a fight where Haye ducked and dodged Valuev all night throwing about 10 punches in each round. This is not the way we are used to seeing Haye fight and although he rocked the big Russian in the final round he was very lucky to get the decision.

Klitschko dominated Eddie Chambers in his last fight with 12th round KO victory, it was one sided fight with him winning every round before he knocked Chambers out with a left hook to the head which ended the fight 5 seconds before the final bell. 20th June 2009 was the original date Klitschko was meant to fight David Haye but Haye pulled out with back injury and was replaced by Ruslan Chagaev. This was another fight that Klitschko dominated and looked more aggressive than in previous fights. The fight finished with Chagaev refusing to come out for the 10th round.

My prediction for this fight is Haye will be too quick Klitschko and could knock him out in the middle rounds but if Haye gets caught by a big punch by Klitschko he will be in big trouble either way I think we would see a knock out.

Amir Khan vs. Timothy Bradley

After his one round demolition of Dmitriy Salita, Khan recently beat Paulie Malignaggi by TKO in the 11th round. The fight was one sided as Khan was too quick and accurate for Malignaggi and the fight was nearly stopped by the doctor at the end of the 10th round, the fight was eventually stopped by the referee when Khan had Paulie on the robes looking for the knock out. Khan defence has improved a lot since Freddie Roach became his trainer and he has started to move more instead standing and trading with his opponents, this has made him a completely different fighter and a better one.

Timothy Bradley is the best light welterweight in the world and seems to keep getting better since the first time I seen him against Junior Witter when he won WBC light welterweight title. In his last fight he out classed Lamont Peterson winning by unanimous decision. Bradley looks the complete boxer and hits hard as well, he could become the next big superstar of boxing if he cleans the light welterweight division and moves up to welterweight to face the big names in that division like Khan is claiming he wants to do.

Khan needs to fight the best in division if he wants to be a big star in America and Bradley is the best in the division. Unfortunately for Khan if this fight happened I can only see one winner Timothy Bradley he is a better boxer than Khan and hits too hard, even with Khan’s improved defence he’s still going to caught against top level fighter and will probably get knocked out again.

Thanks for reading my article, any feedback or advice about my writing would very welcome.

Just to let it be known, Andre Ward and Andre Dirrell refused to take additional drug tests when fighting Kessler and Abraham. Klitschko is another fighter refusing OST's. So hopefully this shows to all of you that believe just beccause Pacquiao didn't give in 100% to floyd's demands he's on roids, well you better start pointing fingers all over boxing...

Klitschko Will Not Accept Povetkin's Drug Test Demands

By Ruslan Chikov

The heavyweight champion of the world, Wladimir Klitschko, is not interested in Alexander Povetkin's request for both fighters to take part in random drug tests under the company WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency). Povetkin is Klitschko's official challenger under the International Boxing Federation (IBF).

Negotiations are taking place for the two of them to fight due to Wladimir not being able to retain an agreement with WBA heavyweight champion David Haye. Unlike the situation between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr., Klitschko has the full authority on the drug testing decision. The fight with Povetkin is ordered by the IBF and if he decides not to take the Klitschko fight, then Wladimir will move on to the next ranked contender in the IBF's top ten.

Older brother Vitali Klitschko believes this is a tactic by Povetkin's team to avoid the fight. He says Wladimir will not accept these drug testing terms.

"Wladimir has to fight Povetkin because of the IBF and he will take any tests under the rules of the World Boxing Federation. The tests are sent to an international sports laboratory in Cologne, which is one of the most modern in the world. If someone has any doubts, let them go send letters to [the lab] to investigate," Vitali was quoted telling Alexander Pavlov by Golzka.

Why should Mayweather settle for a 50/50 split when Mayweather has proven to be the bigger draw?
Roach said yesterday they would do 55/45 if Floyd's favor. Obviously Roach isn't bob arum but that's what he said and I believe they will do something along those lines.

Further, Michael Marley, reported yesterday that he spoke to Bob Arum and although he wouldn't give out details about the negotiating because of the self imposed gag order, he reported that Arum was very, very happy about the situation. (which the author believes means the fight will be made for Nov 13th and will be announced within the next 3 weeks).

That's the order. I was real impressed with the Margarito/Cotto DVD I got from you a while back (until my uncle kept it), so I'm ready to get some more in my collection. I'm too lazy to d/l and burn them myself. LOL
Yeah downloading that many fights is a pain in the ass and often it's hard to find the fight you want or a good quality one.

I'll PM you we talk bidness.

Hmm, cant PM you for some reason.

I'll have to check when I get home how many of those are on DVD format and if I can get some fights all on one DVD. But from the looks of at the most it could be 23 DVD's, so including shipping that would be $50. However it could be less if I have some of those fights on .avi file and can fit multiple fights on one disc. I know I can fit several Marquez fights and some others on a single disc so more likely you're lookin at about $35-$40 total.
