^ Thanks Naner, I've never seen the guy fight, but if he beat those two guys convincingly I'm sure he ain't no joke. Paul would get much respect for taking a high risk low reward fight like that for sure.
No problem, and I agree. Williams would get a lot of credit of fighting Dzinziruk. It's really a fight he doesn't have to take and would only benefit him in winning Dzin's title.

.. if you all want to see anyone fight or any certain fights just let me know. Shit's annoying the way boxing is set up that people can barely see world champions fight. Dzinzurik vs. Santos was a dope high level fight and a lot of people don't even know it took place because it was hidden in Germany.

Antillon impressed by Guzman

Wednesday, December 3 2008

"Guzman's hand speed and quickness is unlike anything I've seen before," said undefeated super featherweight Urbano Antillion (24-0, 17 KOs), who got a taste of what it's like to be in the ring with two-division world champion Joan Guzman at the Maywood Gym in Los Angeles. "He doesn't let you develop any kind of rhythm. After a while, you just get tired because of the pace he keeps. It was a good learning experience for me." Guzman (28-0, 17 KOs), who is trained by Robert Garcia, travels to his native Dominican Republic to take on Ameth Diaz (25-7, 19 KOs) on December 20 in a WBA lightweight title eliminator. WBC #1 super featherweight Antillon fights December 12 in Los Angeles, then will move into a WBC eliminator against Thong Por Chokchai of Thailand.

VERNO PHILLIPS says HE is the one that stopped the fight, not the ref. I know there were a few questioning the stoppage of the fight, well here is your answer from Phillips himself (in bold):

VERNO PHILLIPS SPEAKS ON WILLIAMS LOSS, UNDERGOES POST-FIGHT SURGERY!
By B. Artest

BA: Can you give us some thoughts on your performance against Paul Williams and tell us what went wrong?
"It just wasn't my night man. It's like this, I went out there and fought the dude and expected him to fight tall from the outside. When he first started banging on the inside I was surprised, thinking ain't no way he's going to beat me like this. I have to give it to him, the dude is strong, he can crack and I don't think anybody is going to beat that guy anytime soon. I wasn't at my best for certain reasons and it just wasn't my night."

BA: On television they said the doctor stopped the fight, did you agree with the stoppage?
Verno Phillips: "I'm the one who stopped the fight. I could have continued, but it wasn't my night. My tooth was really hurting me the whole week, and I had to visit a dentist in California to get a capput on it two days before the fight. The whole time I was out there, I just laid low and did my best to deal with the pain. The pain I was feeling was crazy, but I had to go out there and perform, so that's what I did.

BA: Williams worked the body effectively, did that surprise you?
VP: "Yeah, you know we watched him fight and the dude usually stays on the outside and head hunts, but you have to give him credit, he's getting better and he showed me and everyone else something new. I didn't think he would be able to fight so well on the inside."

I'll be going for Cintron but I think Margarito may have ruined him mentally. Clottey is kinda similar to Margarito too in that he doesn't get hurt, ever, and also never gets tired. The big difference is that Clottey has that poor mans Winky Wright defense and just goes into a shell for long stretches of time so Cintron can probably keep the fight really interesting and load up on shots. Cintron is probably the hardest puncher at 147 but I don't think a sledge hammer could hurt Clottey, which is going to frustrate Cintron and make him do stupid shit and probably get KO'd late. Hope I'm wrong though.

Sergei Dzinziruk Turns Down a Paul Williams Fight

By Rick Reeno

A few days ago, WBO junior middleweight champion Sergei Dzinziruk appeared on the internet and issued a challenge to the newly crowned interim-champion Paul Williams. Early tonight, an irate George Peterson, manager and trainer of Williams, contacted BoxingScene.com to voice his displeasure over Dzinziruk turning down a fight with Williams.

According to Peterson, promoter Dan Goossen and advisor Al Haymon were working on a potential meeting between Williams and Dzinziruk in the United States. Peterson says that Dzinziruk and Universum [Sergei's promoter] wanted no part of the fight.

"This guy goes on the internet and calls for a fight with Paul Williams. He said 'I want Paul Williams, I'll fight Paul Williams anywhere.' I get a call from Dan [Goossen] and he told me that Sergei Dzinziruk turned the fight down. He doesn't want to fight Paul Williams. When I heard Sergei wanted to fight Paul, I started licking my chops. Dan and Al [Haymon] were working to get us that fight, and he turned the fight down," Peterson said.

Dan Goossen was unavailable for comment, but one of my contacts in Germany advised me that Dzinziruk is asking for an outrageous sum of money to fight in America. Given the state of the American economy and looming budget cuts that are going to make HBO and Showtime more selective on how they spend their money, it's outrageous for any fighter with absolutely no "name value" in the United States to make unrealistic monetary demands to fight in the country. The news is not surprising when considering that Universum recently turned down an offer of 2.5 million Euro [over $3 million USD] to match middleweight Felix Sturm in a unification bout with Arthur Abraham.

Israel Vazquez asks Juanma - "Are You Ready To Fight?"

By Mark Vester

During the Las Vegas media festivities for Oscar De La Hoya vs. Manny Pacquiao at the MGM Grand - two future rivals met face to face. Unbeaten WBO super bantamweight champon Juan Manuel Lopez met with Israel Vazquez, the WBC champ. The two of them were friendly and spoke about a future fight down the line. Lopez has called for a fight with Vazquez in 2009.

"Are you ready to fight," Vazquez [quoted by El Nuevo Dia] said to Juanma. The two fighters shook hands and posed for photos while media members looked on.

"Clearly I am ready to fight in June or on any date. It's an honor and a pleasure for me to know you, and it's also going to be an honor for me to fight you," Juanma replied.

Juanma said that in order to be the best at super bantamweight, he has to fight Vazquez.

"I want to be the best at 122-pounds and for that I have to fight him. I have said on several occasions that Israel Vázquez is the best," Lopez told El Nuevo Dia. "I believe the questions is the promoters and trainers coming to an agreement. For me, it can be in New York, or in Las Vegas."

Vazquez said the fight would be an interesting one.

"The two styles would make for an interesting fight. He is a good technician with a great punch, and I, for my part, I am a warrior. It makes for a good combination," Vazquez said.

Universum Box-Promotion Statement: It is alleged in an Internet report that Universum Box-Promotion would reject a battle between WBO super welterweight world champion Sergiy Dzinziruk against the interim champion Paul Williams. This allegation is absolutely false, absurd and has no basis. Representatives of both sides, Universum Box-Promotion and Goossen Tutor Promotions, have had contact with each other and there will be negotiations, but as usual behind the scenes. Until today we have not spoken "about even one cent," but we will put out offers and evaluate. WBO champion Sergiy Dzinziruk sticks to his statements made on www.fightnews.com: "I want the fight against Paul Williams as quickly as possible and I totally do not care where. I will quite simply knock out Williams!"

Dzinziruk should just sign the fight and they need to realize he's in no position to make a lot of money since he is a no name in the states and neither hbo/showtime would be willing to put up any type of big money on a fight with someone no one has ever heard of.

Universum Box-Promotion is shady too, they turned down 2.5 million-euro offer from Arthur Abraham to fight their Felix Strum. I wouldn't be surprised if they are bullshitting.

I believe Paul Williams is to be Dzinziruk's mandatory since he beat Phillips, so it really doesn't matter anyway the fight will eventually have to happen.

You can also buy a 18 pack of tecate beer or six-pack of Coke's Full Throttle energy drink and get a $20 rebate. Cazadores tequila will offer a $10 rebate. You can also mix these coupons up to and practically get the fight for free.

The weigh in is at 2:30pm, I believe both ESPN.com and HBO.com will stream it live.
