VIRGIL HUNTER BREAKS DOWN CANELO VS. LARA: "IT'S GOING TO BE A GOOD FIGHT"
By Ben Thompson | July 10, 2014
VIRGIL HUNTER BREAKS DOWN CANELO VS. LARA:

"That's going to be a good fight; interesting fight. You know, I heard Canelo say that he would try to use some of Angulo's blueprint for Lara, but Canelo is a boxer; he's not a pressure fighter. I don't see him really applying that type of pressure, cutting the ring off all night long and in Lara's face like that, and being willing to take punches to get there," stated world-class trainer Virgil Hunter, who shared his thoughts on Saturday's intriguing showdown between former jr. middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez and WBA jr. middleweight champion Erislandy Lara. Having previously faced both fighters with Alfredo Angulo, Hunter has firsthand knowledge of what each man can expect when they step into the ring on Saturday.

"I think Canelo is probably the best fighter that Lara has faced up to date now in his career. I'll put it this way, if Canelo cannot stop Lara from moving the way he likes to move or where he likes to move, he's going to be in for a tough night. If he can neutralize Lara's movement and take advantage of that, then I think it'll be a tough night for Lara. So to say that and come right to the middle of it, I can see Lara really going ahead in this fight on points, depending on how they score it, and Canelo having to come from behind and really come out of himself to win this fight," Hunter explained during a recent conversation with FightHype.com. "I don't care what anybody says, Canelo has stamina problems and he even showed it against Angulo when he was down to one punch at a time from the 5th round on up. I don't think he can afford to have that letdown with Lara, but at the same time, Canelo is fast, he's quick, he's got a good left hook and Lara has gone down from a left hook before. But I think Lara knowing that he overcame adversity and what he overcame, I think it gives him a big edge in confidence to know that he can overcome things when they get tough. That's a huge edge for a fighter. It's going to be a good fight."

Yeah, but all that does is screw Salka if you think about it. It's not like they're going to strip Garcia for taking that fight. THAT would be a sick move if they did that.
Nah they wouldn't strip him, title holders have the option to take non title bouts in their weight class or just change the weight to 141-142 and make it out of the weight class. It doesn't screw Salka cause he shouldn't be in this position, if he were to pull off the win that would make him credible to be fighting for a title.

Teddy just said on FNF that WBA/WBC isn't going to sanction the Garcia/Salka fight. Is this true? I haven't seen anything on it, but it's rare to see a good move by 2 commissions at one time if true.
That's awesome if true. I was reading the WBC rulebook on title defenses someone posted online a few days ago and it specifically said something about the opponent must be ranked. Last I heard Rob Sansa is ranked like #77 in the weight class below Garcia so obviously Ron Salsa can't be a legit opponent under the WBCs own rules. Glad they are actually stepping up instead of turning a blind eye.

Yeah, but you know there's been title fights with minimal exposure where a random challenger suddenly cracks the top 15 when he wasn't even on the radar previously. If it's true they caved to pressure because everyone called them out on it before they altered the rankings, but pressure or not if they did it they get props for it.

Looking forward to seeing Lucas in the ring again. Broner will fight someone whose gonna make him look good again, dude is becoming irrelevant. Berto is sliding downhill fast, don't see much of a future for that cat. I like him tho, hella entertaining.

So the Pacquiao vs Algieri fight is in jeopardy. At first it was reported that Algieri has turnee down the $1.5 million + PPV revenue, saying he wants more money. His own promoter was saying he doesn't understand the kid and believes he's making a huge mistake. However further digging shows that Algieri is turning it down because he's saying his promoter wants to take something like 60% of his purse! So good for Algieri for standing up for himself. Hope his promoter goes to jail for attempted rape.

This is a really good fight for NBC Sports which will be on a Tuesday

Hassan N'Dam-Curtis Stevens on September 20th

According to Gary Hyde, manager of former WBO middleweight champion Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam (30-1, 18KOs), King Sports have submitted the winning purse bid for his fighter's final IBF eliminator with Curtis Stevens (27-4, 20KOs). The date of the fight, says Hyde, is September 20th in Santa Monica, California.

N'Dam showed a lot of heart when he lost the WBO title in 2012. He was dropped six times by Peter Quillin, who couldn't stop N'Dam and had to settle for a twelve round unanimous decision. Stevens (27-4, 20KOs) challenged WBA/IBO champion Gennady Golovkin last November and was stopped in eight rounds. [Click Here To Read More]

This fight should be entertaining. Also, this is a ropeless ring, a circle not a square.

Vera, Rosado Will Go To War on 8/16 in Las Vegas

ROBERT GARCIA SAYS HE CAN'T ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS REGARDING MAIDANA'S GLOVES FOR THE MAYWEATHER REMATCH
By Ben Thompson | July 14, 2014
ROBERT GARCIA SAYS HE CAN'T ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS REGARDING MAIDANA'S GLOVES FOR THE MAYWEATHER REMATCH

"The only one question everybody's asking, and I still don't know the answer, everybody's asking us about the glove situation, and we can't answer that question. Maidana cannot answer the question; I cannot answer it either. I think that question you guys have to ask Mayweather himself," stated world-class trainer Robert Garcia, who made it a point to bring up the topic of Marcos Maidana's gloves during the first stop of the multi-city press tour to promote the anticipated rematch with Floyd Mayweather. Though Garcia did not shed any light on the subject, his non-answer suggests that Maidana may have signed a contract which prohibits him from wearing his preferred choice of Everlast MX gloves when he steps into the ring on September 13.

The gloves were at the center of controversy in their first fight when Team Mayweather objected to the use of a pair of customized Everlast MX gloves, which they claimed offered very little padding in the knuckle area due to the use of horse hair as padding. After hours of back and forth negotiations on the eve of the fight, much to the dismay of Garcia, Maidana finally agreed to use Everlast Powerlock gloves, which uses all foam padding, instead.

Looks like they announced this fight before the purse bid and Main Events lost the purse bid to N'Dam's promotional team. I'm sure it'll get on TV somewhere but not on NBC.

Tomoki Kameda Inks Agreement With Al Haymon

By Rick Reeno

WBO bantamweight champion Tomoki Kameda (30-0, 19KOs) has confirmed to BoxingScene.com that he signed an agreement with powerful adviser Al Haymon.

Kameda made his American debut last Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. As part of the Saul Alvarez-Erislandy Lara undercard, Kameda scored a spectacular one-punch knockout of Thai challenger Pungluang Sor Singyu.

Tomoki is the youngest of the three fighting*Kameda brothers.*The three brothers made boxing history last September, when all three of them simultaneously held world titles. Unlike his two older brothers, who are very popular in Japan, Tomoki built his career up in Mexico. He speaks fluently in Spanish and uses the nickname "El Mexicanito."

"Team Haymon saw me at the fight. We had*a chance to*talk for a while. They were very interested in me. Haymon is the best in boxing. I had the opportunity and I'm very happy [with the deal]. My job is only to train and to*win and Mr. Haymon's job is to get me the biggest fights possible and that what I expect he'll do," Kameda told BoxingScene.com.

Haymon's stable continues to grow at rapid rate. He currently works with a who's who of fighters, including Floyd Mayweather Jr., Adrien Broner, Amir Khan, Robert Guerrero, Shawn Porter, Deontay Wilder, Abner Mares, Keith Thurman, Sakio Bika, Leo Santa Cruz, Omar Figueroa, Erislandy Lara, Austin Trout, Devon Alexander, Errol Spence, Gerald Washington, and at least 30 others.

WBC reinstates Adrien Broner in ratings after voting to accept his apology
July 16th, 2014 | Post Comment - 11 Comments

adrien broner By Scott Gilfoid: The World Boxing Council (WBC) has agreed to reinstate former three division world champion Adrien Broner in their ratings after they voted in favor of accepting his public apology over the comments he made after his win over Carlos Molina last May.

During an interview with Showtime’s Jim Gray, Broner said “I just beat the [expletive] out of a Mexican.”

Broner claimed afterwards that he didn’t mean it as a racial statement, but some fans still weren’t too pleased about him making that remark. What Broner said was out of line and the WBC reacted swiftly by suspending him in their ranking.

Here’s the WBC’s statement on Broner:

The WBC Board of Governors has voted in favor of accepting the public apology presented by Adrien Broner during his hearing at the Nevada State Athletic Commission. The suspension which was in place has been lifted, and the WBC Ratings Committee has ranked him at #3 in the super lightweight division.

WBC Statement: Mr. Broner, a former WBC lightweight champion, is expected to understand his role in society while being a public figure and as a former champion, represent the organization which believes in human equality, fair play, and has an ongoing campaign against bullying.

Broner (28-1, 22 KOs) is scheduled to fight on September 6th against an opponent still to be determined. There’s been a number of names mentioned as possibly facing him, such as Zab Judah. It’s not likely to be someone truly good because it looks like his adviser Al Haymon is slowly rebuilding the 24-year-old Broner’s career following his loss to Marcos Maidana last December. What’s not known is how long the rebuilding process is going to take. Some of the problems that Broner has likely won’t go away no matter how many tune-up fights he’s given. He doesn’t have fast hands, he doesn’t move well, he doesn’t have a high work rate, and he’s not a huge puncher at 140-147. Broner is an excellent defensive fighter, and he appears to have a good chin.
