Oh shit!....

Hanshaw fails to make weight!
Roy Jones Jr. weighed in at 175 for his light heavyweight title showdown against Anthony Hanshaw at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum in Biloxi, Mississippi. Hanshaw first weighed 176, then 175.25. He has 30 minutes to lose the last quarter pound.

Really? I dunno if Gomez is good enough, although Gatti does seem to start bleeding during the refs instructions, so I dunno. lol
I just feel Gomez is too strong for him (just look at what Baldomir did to Gatti). Gomez has been fighting the bigger opponents and lets not forget that Gatti has always had trouble at welterweight.
Gatti has the experience on Gomez, but I think Gatti's biggest chance is Gomez's lack of conditioning.

It's going to be a great fight either way (I sort of want Gatti to win to see him in there against Chavez Jr later this year).

Paul Williams just made Margarito look like an amateur, Gatti got his face broke and i missed the first fight but cintron or whatever the fuck his name is ended up smashing on dude convincingly. Paul Williams seems to be the next big thing but him and Cotto will be a great fight.

Great night of fights.
I agree with the Margarito-Williams result. Williams fought the perfect fight, considering Margarito's power. I dont think it made him look like an amateur. His jab was the key and he used it, its simple as that.
It made me kinda teary eye'd to see Gatti retire. The one cold thing about retirement from boxing for most boxers is unlike most sports where u more than likely lose ur last event, u literally get your ass beat, then people write you off on live tv and then u retire after they show u gettin yo ass beat 100times b4 u can announce that u cant contend with the young guns.
All things said, Gatti has nothing to be ashamed of. He should join up with Ward and open a gym.

Id love to see Gomez take on Chavez Jr.

Im gonna hold off on saying who i want to see fight who til they say if Oscar wants back in the weight class.

Overall this was a great night of boxing!

Looks like Andre Ward is finally startin to step it up cuz his last fights out here in the Bay werent impressive at all.

Gatti went out like a sav though. He took some punches, did a little dance, took A LOT more punches before he couldnt take it anymore.

Him and Micky Ward are the real Rocky and Apollo.

Wow, great night of fights.

Cintron KO was a candidate for a KO of the year. Impressive win.

Gomez/Gatti.

Gomez surprised the shit out of me - he looked like a different fighter. He has improved a great deal since the TV show the Contender. Gatti to me didn't even look that washed up - he was bouncing around the ring, had energy and seemed to have his speed for the most part. I think this was a clear case of Gomez just being the better fighter. The one thing I was surprised about Gatti is that he tried to out box Gomez. Well, every time Gatti tries to out-box someone he gets his ass kicked. I kept waiting for him to start the war with Gomez and stay on the inside, which I feel was his biggest chance to win it, but he didn't. Gomez beat him to the point every single time. I agree with Emmanuel Stewart when he said that the Gomez that fought on Saturday probably would have beat a Gatti in his prime.

With that being said it was pretty sad to Gatti get beat as badly as he did. I've always liked Gatti but it's sad to see him go out like this. I wish he would have retired earlier.

Williams/Margarito
I had a feeling Margarito was going to have problems with Williams size, reach and the fact he's a southpaw. 6'1 is bullshit, Williams has to be around 6'2/6'3.

I don't think Margarito got exposed AT ALL. I simply think it was a combination of Williams awkward style and Williams outworking him by throwing 100+ punches per round and maintaining almost complete control of the fight (Margarito started to land some big punches around the 9th, 10th rounds). I don't think Margarito got hurt by any of Williams punches either.

It took a very long time for Margarito to figure out Williams style...I'd say he probably figured him out for the most part around the 7th or 8th round and by the time he did, it was too late. Margarito was landing the harder, cleaner shots as I said around the 9/10th rounds but by the 11th, 12th it seemed he didn't have any energy/power left.

Williams deserved the win. I had it 117-111.

Williams does look very beatable though. He seems a little uncoordinated and at times leaves his face wide open. I'd really like to see a rematch and see if Williams could beat Margarito again, or if Margarito knows what it will take to beat him.

But first I'd like to see Williams/Cotto.

Williams put on a really impressive fight IMO.

I think that Margarito held back a lot, especially in the early rounds, probably thinking that Williams would gas, at the rate he was throwing...but the problem was that he never really did slow down. By the time Margarito started turning it on, it was too little too late. I think that Margarito hurt Paul, but Paul did a good job of firing right back to kind of negate those hard shots that Margarito landed, in the judges eyes.

Also, Paul showed great footwork in this one and gave lots of angles and different looks. Both dudes showed some great chin tho, I know Margarito hit him with more than a few solid punches, to the body and the dome.

I'd really like to see Williams/Mayweather.

I think that he has a great chance at beating Floyd, because of his work rate, and size advantage. Bob Arum says there will NOT be a Williams / Cotto fight...but we'll see.

Margarito started to fire up in the 6th round. By then he kept going to the body and putting a lot of damage on Williams which showed in the later rounds when Williams was more vulnerable to punches to the head. Margarito took the last couple of rounds but it wasn't enough for William's dominance in the early round.

I'm looking forward to seeing Williams/Cotto.

Wow.... Arm chair Howard Leddermans in the house....

Margarito VS Williams was a good fight.
And it went down to the wire in the final round.
After sweeping the first 5 rounds, Williams gave up much ground to Margarito who I had one point behind (like two of the judges!) going into the final round.
Williams answered every question, showed poise, a good chin, heart, and a lot of hunger for fighting hard in the final round to pull ahead in the score cards. Margarito impressed me with his heart and determination but he just wasn't able to hang with the younger better conditioned fighter in Williams.
Margarito will be back, but I think Williams is here to stay!

Now the Gatti VS Gomez fight went pretty much the way I expected, but Gomez's conditionning looked great this time around.

As for Kermit Cintron, great phucking KO.
Even though he got his ass kicked by Margarito, it looks like it made him a better fighter. He matches up well against any of the other top welterweights (we might see Cintron VS Margarito 2 now that Margarito isn't champ anymore)....

Yeah Gomez looked a lot better than before. He was very accurate with his punching and his timing was perfect. You were right. I thought Gatti still had enough for one or two more fights and could take Gomez, but what I didn't expect was Gomez to improve as much as he did. He must have trained really well for this fight, he looked solid all around.

I'd love to see Gomez vs Chavez Jr. next.

Also, Cotto vs Williams or Cintron would be ideal. Personally, I hope its Cintron and Williams has a rematch with Margarito. I think Williams would get KO'd by Cotto, but Cintron may be able take Cotto :)

Anyone see the Roy Jones jr. fight? I heard it was pretty boring up until Jones knocked down Hanshaw in the 11th. Jones wins by UD. I hear he's going to fight Trinidad next, although Jones says he does not want to wait until next year - he wants to fight again this year because he's "38 and don't have time to play."

Gomez usually looks that good early, but then he fades as he gets tired.
He did it in his last two fights and that's why I doubted his stamina.
But perhaps the combination of Gatti not pressing him, and Gatti being a "small" welterweight probably played a role with Gomez having more in the tank this time around.

I think Gomez will take Chavez Jr at this point of Jr's career.
But it would be a make or break fight for him and he needs this kind of a fight to show us if this kid is the real deal or just a show.

You think Cotto can knock Williams out?
I don't know, I think he would have trouble finding him and if Williams can handle Margarito's best shots, he "should" be able to handle Cotto's punches.
Either way, it would be a great fight. At this point, I want to see Williams against any of the top welterweights.
Any how, Bob Arum is talking about matching up Cotto against Margarito next. But that all depends on whether Margarito would want that fight instead of a rematch with Williams. Personally I think Margarito has a better shot at Cotto than he does against Williams in a rematch.
I'd love to see Williams against Cintron though!

What's your take on the possible match between Trinidad and Jones?
I'd pick Jones by UD even at this stage in his career. But that's if Trinidad doesn't catch him....

I'll jump in here, if that's ok...

I'd take Jones in a fight vs. Trinidad, too. I think that if people say Jones is ''washed up''...Trinidad must be dead. LOL...sorry, but that guy isn't beating anyone (who matters) these days, and I don't think Jones is 'done' yet.

Sidenote: Since Trinidad wanted to make this big ''comeback''...with Winky, Mayorga, Vargas, Jones, etc...

Why did he never take that rematch with De La Hoya that DLH wanted? At least that would give him some pocket money...LOL.

^I would if he hadn't acted like a classless jerk after the fight and during the post-fight presser.. At the presser he actually had the gumption to blame Dan Goossen(wtf?!) that he lost and kept crying over and over again about how he should have won. Williams and Goossen showed class though and didn't let it bother them. A reporter asked if he'd take a rematch, Margarito said some bullshit like, "only if it's Bob Arum because if Goossen is involved, I'll just get robbed again", what? Robbed, dude you got out-hustled! Margi clearly lost.. That shit pissed me off, ya'll should try and find it, I watched it on boxingscene.com.. I hope he fades into obscurity, that guy is not a champion or a man, please watch the presser and see what he says before anyone calls me a hater.

I mean I already didn't like him just for the simple fact that Arum over-hyped him, but I at least respected him as a fighter and belt-holder, now he's just a bum who I'm extra glad lost.. Williams showed a lot of class at the presser and right after the fight..
