For the record,Ive never illegally downloaded any music.i have however had my friend burn me a copy of some shit.I have lined numerous rappers pockets with my money though.I have well over 1000 c.ds and about the same amount of cassettes all store bought...
heres a scenario...how many people have tapped into cable T.V. Illegal?...or had one of them black boxes to descramble and get all the channels for free?In that case someone may say..thats keeping it hood..or gangsta..or maybe you disgruntled because you say fuck paying a large cable bill and lining the big companies pockets....how many people watch movies online for free?...All in all its the same across the board..its stealing, someone put there money up to build this company..or make some music..and people are stealing...
Do you feel Guilty?probably not the least cause your attitude is they making millions
whats the solution..make it an affordable purchase...I know cable companies invested millions to get shit going..but with all the subscribers when does the original principle get paid off and they start seing profit?...with average cable bills at i estimate at $50 a month...Id say they could afford to come down in price and still maintain a profit...like after you keep paying 50 dollars for a pay perview fight and afterwards be like thats a waste.....why not get that box and get them for free? SAME WITH MUSIC....who wants to spend $17 on a c.d as it is getting more and more affordable to press up a c.d about $1 a c.d ....I say its not unreasonable to say that any c.d over $10 is a lil steep.and if you a artist with no label or real distribution make it $5......Sure $17 aint shit...but as you get a lil older there are more important things and ways to put your money towards....and aint nothing worse then spending about $80 on 4 c.ds and get home and you skip throug almost every song and never wanna listen to that shit again...Me personally I could care less about buying another c.d Im straight i have enough in my collection to keep me happy for life.....on a side note I have purchased from fam Bam..sicc shop..******** almost everything thats come out of dago....but as these artists making that club shit Im finding myself less interested..

if a cd is bought then returned used, the artist only makes money off the 1st purchase obviously. they get nothing from used cd sales. once it's sold back as used, the artist is out of the picture.

it really only benefits the store who's selling it. but they are taking a chance every time they buy a used cd that it will never be re-sold.

Theres a difference between downloading and bootlegging. Generally there is no profit in downloading an album and listening to it, any release thats worth its salt is going to get that, thats a sign of the times. I personally don't trust artists anymore, gone are the days when i can walk into a store grab something ive never heard and feel comfortable in the knowledge that i havent wasted my time and money.

Artists like Mitchy Slick who to be fair have only released quality material are rare. I have to admit to thinking Messy Marv has been guilty of putting his name to too many half hearted projects the last couple of years and thats making me want to hear this first. But I am a cd buyer, plus downloads and rips sound like shit in the whip, i've been a connoisseur and collector of good music for 15 years.

Bootlegging is when someone takes a cd, duplicates it over and over, prints poor imitation covers and sells them for a profit that they only see. That is theft and should lead to a good beating.

lmao!!!!!!!!!!!! here let me give youll a quick lesson, like synical dj said you can easily spend 100g's:

1. Advance to artists: $$$

2. In-store programs: $30,000
(in order to bring in your cds tha stores MAKE you buy self space, it averages about $2.00 a unit, so if a record ships 15k, it will cost you 30k plus to put it in the stores)

3. Cd pressing:20,000 x .80 = $16,000
(lets say .80 a unit)

4. Beats: 14 tracks x 400 = $5600
(average, some are 500, some are 300)

5. Studio time: $3500(low ball)

6. Mixing/Mastering: $1500(low ball)

7. Posters flyer's: $3000

8. Cd artwork: $500.00

9. Magazine ad: $2000

10. Discount dollars: $15,000
(this is a extra discount that the distributor gives the one stops, so they can get the product alittle cheaper then everyone else because they re-sale the product to mom and pops stores, usually averages to about $1.00, per unit shipped)

11. shipping cost: $1000.00
(for shipping posters and flyer's to stores across the country, and receiving the posters and flyer's from the company that made them)

12. Internet banners and ads $1400.00 + 600(200 x 3 months) = $2000.00
(I own the site but there account will still be debited for these charges, we charge $1400.oo for the count down on the front page and we charge 200.00 per month for the regular banner on the boards)

13. Shipping the cds to koch: $2500.00
(ups shipping to new york)

13. Photo shots $200.00
(jack dee took some pics, but we decided to go with the drawing

14. other drawing: $500.00
(we had another drawing for the cover but it didn't look good)

15. extra beats: $1200.00
(we brought 3 beats that we didn't use)

that's like 77k right there, and that's without the advance(you know messy got a chunk and you know mitchy got a chunk). For argument sake, lets just say they got 10k a piece, and you know they got more then that, that's 100k. And I'm missing a couple things, i just did this off the top of my head, I rounded up and down on a couple things, but i think you get the picture.

Yeah Mitchy I feel your pain for real. Its sad that this is now considered to "a part of the game". I think as artists/production companies/labels, we need to develop a different type of incentive that is of value to the fans which cannot be bootlegged. We just have to be creative with how we offer additional value to the fans. I got some ideas myself on things that can be done to motivate the purchase of a CD over downloading. We ultimately need to become more interactive with our fans.

i NEVER buy a CD without hearing it first.
Same here. Artist like T-Nutty, Lynch, Scarface, Mitch, Yuk & Tech N9ne get my money without me hearing the music first cuz its gauranteed fire. Everybody else I gotta atleast hear the album or snippits. To keep it one hunid I bet half of the cats on this thread hollering they aint gonna buy a bootleg copy of Messy Slick was more then likely gonna buy a bootleg copy before Mitch created this thread. It shouldn't take the artist himself to come on here exspressing his pain & anger 4 cats to feel like they shouldn't buy a bootleg. Furthermore Mitchy u shouldve expected this 2 happen @ some point. The word has come down that ur getting too big. U got the hottest shit out so this is what happens when ur too hot. Its unfortanate but its real. I for one have never purchased a bootleg in my life. I don't even play'em or watch bootleg DVD's. Its funny cuz when I express how much I'm against them mothafuckas look @ me like I'm bugging out or something. Honestly me & one of my aunties in L.A. are the only people I know personally that won't fuck with a booyleg under any circumstance @ all.
