Malignaggi Blasts Pacquiao, Says "Bring on Mayweather!"

By Rick Reeno

Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao is a dead issue, for now. Nobody could have ever predicted the fight falling through because of a dispute over "random blood tests." After weeks of talks and millions of dollars at stake, it all fell apart because of random blood tests to detect performance enhancing drugs.

Mayweather wanted random blood tests throughout the training period; including random tests within a 30-day window leading up to the fight. Pacquiao would agree to the random blood tests, but not within the 30-day window. Pacquiao tried to offer a compromise by cutting the 30-day window down to 24-days, and he was willing to take a blood test immediately after the Mayweather fight was over. The compromise was not satisfactory to Mayweather. Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer and adviser Al Haymon had tried, unsuccessfully, to convince Mayweather to accept Pacquiao's proposal.

Both fighters are going to pursue other opponents for March. Pacquiao is going to make a move to his eight weight division by challenging undefeated WBA junior middleweight champion Yuri Foreman on either March 13 or March 20 in Las Vegas. At the moment, multiple sources indicate to BoxingScene.com that Mayweather will also return in March in Las Vegas. At the moment the current frontrunner to fight Mayweather is former junior welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi.

Malignaggi checked in with BoxingScene.com at a very late hour on Wednesday night. As always, he was not afraid to go on the record with his views on Mayweather-Pacquiao - and their blood-gate dispute . He agrees with Mayweather's decision to walk away from Pacquiao's final proposal. As far as the culprit who caused the fight to fall apart, Malignaggi places the full blame on Pacquiao.

"I agree with Floyd Mayweather's decision. Pacquiao just left a $40 million dollar fight on the table because of a random drug test. Do you know how stupid that sounds? You can flip it in any way you want, and in as many languages as you want, but it still comes down to Pacquiao allowing a $40 million dollar fight to go down the tubes because he wouldn't take a random drug test [within 30-days of the fight] to prove he's clean. They can place the blame on whoever but the fight hinged on this kind of test," Malignaggi told BoxingScene. "If Pacquiao is allowed to juice, he beats Floyd. If Pacquiao is not allowed to juice, then Floyd beats the s**t out of him and shows him what a real welterweight is like."

Malignaggi regards Mayweather as the best fighter in the world. No surprise to any member of the press. Malignaggi has always had a very high level of respect for Mayweather's abilities in the ring. The high level of respect will not prevent a possible fight. Malignaggi wants to push himself to the limit by fighting Mayweather in March.

"Everyone knows, I've always had a lot of respect for Mayweather. I always want to test myself against the best. Floyd is the best today, and I'm ready and I'm available and I'll take any kind of drug test because I'm clean and I don't have anything to hide," Malignaggi said.

"Mayweather is the best fighter in the the world and that's who I want to test myself against, and not against a guy [Pacquiao] who leaves suspicions and opinions out there instead of clearing his name to show people that he really is the best. Floyd Mayweather is still the best in the world and I want to fight the best."

Malignaggi is a New York fighter, and because of that it was interesting to get his honest thoughts on Pacquiao's potential fight against another New Yorker in Foreman.

"Stylistically it's a tough fight for Pacquiao. Yuri is a good fighter. He's a good boxer and that should trouble Pacquiao. If people thought clearly, they would realize that Pacquoao should have no chance against a junior middleweight like this but people have their heads so far up Pacquiao's @ss that it clouds their vision," Malignaggi said.

"Stylistically he is all wrong for Pacquiao. If he goes through Foreman in the same way as these other guys, it's only going to raise more questions. They can't say Yuri is old. They can't say Yuri is a shot fighter. People need to watch the fight closely. Yuri is a good fighter, tough as nails and has a proven chin. I think if Pacquiao starts to hurt him with every punch like these other guys, it's going to raise more questions. I think people should keep observing

Mayweather Has a History of Being a 'Coward,' Says Arum

By Mark Vester

Promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank outlined the history of Floyd Mayweather Jr's mental state. A coward's mental state, according to Arum. He says Mayweather will never agree to take a tough fight where he stands any chance of losing. Arum has gone on the warpath after Mayweather walked away from a March 13 showdown with Manny Pacquiao.

After weeks of negotiations and a nine hour mediation on Tuesday, Mayweather refused to accept the terms for a Pacquiao bout. He was unhappy with Pacquiao's proposal of taking random bloods tests until 24-days prior to their fight. Mayweather wanted the random blood tests to take place until a date that was much closer to their fight.

Arum is not surprised the fight fell apart. He says Mayweather's fear of losing is the reason why many of best fights never took place at welterweight. He points out how Mayweather walked away from a very lucrative rematch with Oscar De La Hoya in 2008. De La Hoya gave Mayweather a very tough fight in 2007.

"Floyd Mayweather walked away," Arum said to USA Today. "Our guy was agreeable, Mayweather wasn't. It's not surprising. I always felt that he wasn't going to do the fight. He knows Manny will beat him. Mayweather's never stepped into the ring with a guy he had any question but that he was going to beat."

"That's why there's never been a (Shane) Mosley, there's never been a (Antonio) Margarito, there never was a (Miguel) Cotto, and there's no Pacquiao. Floyd Mayweather is a coward. He will never fight anyone that will remotely give him a tough fight. Here's a guy who, the rematch with (Oscar) De La Hoya was a huge fight, it would've made millions and millions, and he walked away from it.. .. I'm not disappointed in the sense that I always knew it was going to be this way."

The case for Manny Pacquiao

By Luke Orem - I have noticed a decent amount of people still siding with Floyd Mayweather Jr. on the issue of random drug testing being a part of this fight. Let’s look at it from a different perspective than “Floyd asked many to take a drug test and he refused.” That is where some of the fans are shutting their brains off and placing the blame. There is much more to this story than a guy being scared of needles and trying to hide steroid abuse.

Some have said that giving a couple of tablespoons before a fight is irrelevant, they say the doctors all agree that it will not affect an athlete, and there is no reason to fear it. Now in 2005 Manny Pacquiao went on television and gave an interview claiming that giving blood prior to his first fight with Erik Morales caused him to lose power and he wasn’t able to deliver shots like he hoped.. All of us have bad experiences, and we all search for the causes and excuses and try to avoid them. Our brains develop patterns. If you get in a car crash and you were talking on your cell phone when it happened, I am positive you would be the last person caught using a cell phone in a car again. We all know Manny did not handle his loss to Morales well and Manny probably needs an excuse to make sure that doesn’t happen again. So when Manny Pacquiao says in 2009 that he doesn’t want to give blood right before the fight, we have to assume he feels strongly that there is a good reason for it. I think anyone who is walking around dehydrated and starving is not going to be first in line at a blood bank for obvious reasons.

Another major point is that Manny has a ridiculous penalty of $10,000,000 per pound weighed over the contracted agreement. Is this a fair negotiation when you’re refusing to random blood testing? I think this clause is the direct result of Floyd Mayweather coming in at 146 against Marquez, a much smaller fighter than himself, during their fight in September. This penalty only affects Floyd if he comes in over the limit. There is no weight checking police being brought in, there is no diet Floyd must have approved, and there is no one checking in on him to keep him honest. I think it is perfectly acceptable to charge as much as you want from a boxer who breaks a contract. Keep this point in mind for later when I offer what I think is a good compromise for this entire situation.

Now, many people think that Manny should just accept the drug testing standards and fight for his projected $40,000,000. This isn’t a compromise, this is a concession. We know Manny has offered multiple alternatives to the proposed USADA drug testing, such as 3 scheduled blood draws, or the Nevada State Athletic Commission’s request for blood whenever they deem necessary. People argue that the NSAC doesn’t draw blood as they don’t think it is necessary, but if they aren’t going to do it now, then we can’t plan on any fights in the future requiring it. This is not an attempt to fix a broken drug policy in the sport of boxing. This is an attempt to make sure Manny stays clean for the fight. I think Floyd is accusing Manny without accusing him. He is implying he doesn’t feel what Manny Pacquiao has done in boxing can be achieved naturally, and he wants proof that he did. This is why there is a lawsuit pending and why the fight is at a stalemate. Manny Pacquiao is a national hero and does not want his name linked to steroids and does not want to be accused of cheating to reach his status. I think it’s fair to say that Manny has a good point in being offended by the drug testing and I think he has a right to be concerned about the manner in which Floyd is trying to implement it. Shane Mosley was asked to take random blood tests in preparations for a fight with Zab Judah and Richard Schaefer, the same man who proposed this testing, told them that “Shane is not a cheater and doesn’t deserve to be treated like one.” That, coupled with the dislike of giving blood leading up to the fight, is why Manny seems to be honest in his desire to keep his blood in his body.

I believe the solution for all of this lies in the very penalty which most people think is so ridiculous. I would think if the Mayweather camp could drop the 24/7 random testing until the minute before the fight, and negotiate some sort of time table and cut-off date with random tests, it would be perfectly reasonable to insert a stipulation in the contract that if in any test that Manny or Floyd are found to have steroids or illegal substances in their system, the penalty would be half of their purse, if the other fighter would agree to still fight. I think it is unfair to say that Mayweather is any less capable of taking an enhancing drug just because his camp is the one requesting the blood testing. We should treat the advantage of steroids as the same advantage from coming into a fight and not making weight. If we could see a reasonable compromise for this entire situation, I think every fan could rejoice and get ready for the first mega fight of this magnitude since Hearns/Leonard.

^^^last paragraph is what's important:

Insidesports.ph, Standard Today, Viva Sports and BoxingScene.com understand that the Mayweather handlers led by Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer and Mayweather’s top adviser Al Hayman had tried to convince the fighter to agree to the 24-day blood test proposal which Pacquiao had agreed to and which medical experts had said was more than sufficient to detect any traces of performance enhancing drugs, but they were turned down by Mayweather resulting in the fight being called off.

Mayweather is going to change his mind and agree to the terms that Manny agreed to, if not then I am not going to pay to watch him fight again (especially after teasing us with this fight)

Manny caved in as much as he could so this fight could happen but it's Mayweather that's being stubborn. They should test immediately after the fight anyway.

Mediator Claims Team Pacquiao Made False Allegations

Judge Daniel Weinstein today issued an order to correct the false record that has been created by the recent statements from Top Rank and Manny Pacquiao's representatives concerning what occurred at the mediation. The full text of the Judge's statement is as follows:

Mediator's Corrective Order Re: Mayweather-Pacquiao Mediation

The Mediator finds:

1. Various articles have appeared in the press purporting to characterize the substance and outcome of the Mayweather-Pacquiao mediation and the negotiations between the parties. Many of the reports are incorrect.

2. The mediation was a confidential proceeding. Any comments to the press or public by participants in the mediation purporting to report the substance or details of the mediation are violations of the strict confidentiality to which the parties and their representatives agreed and which they authorized the Mediator to enforce.

3. The parties and their representatives authorized that, if misinformation was disclosed to the press by either side, the Mediator would correct any erroneous information.

The Mediator corrects the erroneous reports to the press as follows:

a. Both parties participated in the mediation in good faith. Both parties participated in many hours of negotiation, with a number of proposals issued by each side and carefully considered by the parties and their representatives.

b. The Mediator himself did not formulate, recommend or issue a Mediator's Proposal. The Mediator did not make an evaluation or finding that any one of the many proposals considered by the parties was the correct protocol.

c. Any attempt to characterize the mediation process as an acceptance or rejection by any of the parties of a mediator's or an arbiter's proposal or of any specific proposal is false.

d. In the end, the parties could not agree on a testing protocol acceptable to all.

Pacquiao Cites Height Concerns, Rejects Foreman

By Mark Vester

Some thought it might be a stretch to see WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao move up to 154-pounds to challenge WBA title-holder Yuri Foreman in March. Top Rank promotes both fighters and offered Foreman as a March replacement for Floyd Mayweather Jr. The people who thought it would never happen said Foreman was just too big for Pacquiao, who fought Miguel Cotto last November at a catch-weight of 145-pounds.

Pacquiao's U.S. business manager Michael Koncz told The Los Angeles Times that Manny was concerned with Foreman's height and rejected the fight as a result. Foreman is 5'11 and Pacquiao is 5'6 1/2. Foreman has several inches in reach and would have likely weighed between 165-170-pounds on fight night.

"Manny's concerned about Foreman's height. We'll go through the entire [welterweight and junior welterweight] categories and see what we can come up with," Koncz said.

Foreman told the paper that he wasn't too upset over the missed opportunity. He said it's an honor to have Pacquiao turn him down.

"It's a real honor the greatest pound-for-pound fighter in the world doesn't want to fight me," Foreman said. "Aside from winning the world title, this is the greatest compliment I've gotten in boxing."

Haymon Disputes That He Tried To Convince Mayweather

By Rick Reeno

A reliable source has advised BoxingScene.com that adviser/manager Al Haymon is disputing reports that he tried to convince Floyd Mayweather Jr. to accept Manny Pacquiao's proposal for a 24-day cut-off on random drug testing. Mayweather-Pacquiao died on Wednesday when Floyd continued to demand random blood tests within 30-days of the fight date. Pacquiao's proposal for a 24-day cut-off was rejected by Mayweather. Several reports have placed the full blame on Mayweather, but I've been told that Haymon supported his decision to reject Pacquiao's proposal.

Both fighters are planning to return in March against replacement opponents. Pacquiao is going to move up to 154-pounds to challenge undefeated WBA champion Yuri Foreman. Mayweather's potential frontrunner is former junior welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi.

Mayweather vs. Pacquiao: Before you blame Floyd

By David Berry: With the latest news of what could be the biggest fight ever between 5 division champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs World Boxing Organization champion Manny Pacquiao being called off for now, there are sure to be fingers pointed at Mayweather Jr. My question is simple. Why? Why blame Floyd for something that was GOING to happen and SHOULD have happened?

That particular something happens to be the postponing of the biggest fight ever in the eyes of fight fans in order to make it the biggest fight ever in the eyes of the human race. Before one points the finger at Floyd I urge you to look at what’s really before your eyes.

TIME: If they signed on to do this fight it would be exactly 3 months from now. You don’t make the biggest fight ever with only 3 months to promote the event. All of this talk of blood testing is simply hype and psychological warfare on Mayweather’s part to try and make this the biggest fight. I thought from the beginning that this wouldn’t work because fights of that magnitude are made with at least 6 months of preparation and promotion. Think about it. Floyd tried that same thing when he was supposed to fight Marquez in July. There just wasn’t enough time to build that fight up. The rib injury was total crap. He gained two extra months to promote a fight and in turn crossed a million PPV buys. What do you call that? Smart decision making. If Mayweather Jr vs Pacquiao went down in March it would have crossed 2 mil but I guarantee it wouldn’t have beat Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Oscar De La Hoya in terms of numbers. Maybe if it was going to happen on that May date, but not March 13th. They didn’t even have enough time to do a press tour for the fight had it been on March 13th. If they really want this to be the highest grossing fight of all time, March 13th would have only prevented that accomplishment.

NEXT OPPONENTS: Face it, Yuri Foreman/Paulie Malignaggi and Mathew Hatton are sheep. Just mentioning those guys up against Pacquiao and Money reminds me of when they lowered a cow into the Velociraptor facility on Jurrassic Park. Slaughter. All 3 of them combined have about 80 fights and less than 20 knockouts. Yet, what better opponents for them to warm up on? I don’t think Pac can beat Paul Williams do to size. If Floyd Mayweather Jr beats Paul Williams or Shane Mosley he is going to want more money when negotiations pick back up for the Mayweather/Pacquiao fight, therefore, causing the fight to never happen due to money issues. Malignatti, Foreman and Hatton will be the welcome mats for the Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Manny Pacquiao bout in SEPTEMBER. If not, than Pac and Floyd are both suckers for choosing to not fight eachother, yet, they will tee off on a couple of guys who pose no threat to their legacies.

LEGACY: Floyd Mayweather Jr is my favorite boxer of all time. I’ve seen every fight, I know his style and I can probably guess what he’s going to do before he does it. With that said, I must admit, Floyd needs this fight. The Mayweather Jr/Corrales fight is too far in the past to live off of now. His legacy will be etched in stone with a win over Pacquiao. Also, Manny Pacquiao needs this fight. His biggest fights were with mostly washed up legends (Morales and De La Hoya) and guys who have been mentally destroyed due to being knocked out prior to fighting Pac (Hatton and Cotto). A fight with another legend who is in his prime is going to cement one of their names on the list of boxing’s top 10 fighters of all time.

WHO ELSE IS WORTH WATCHING THEM FIGHT? This killer welterweight division is starting to slow down with the looks of these recent fights. Paul Williams being smacked around by Sergio Martinez. Andre Berto implementing the punch and grab (old man technique) into his style. Sugar Shane being 38. Judging by Shanes last few fights, this guy isn’t worth watching on PPV. I’m not naive like Peter Wells. I seen him tired and winded against Cotto. I seen him look sluggish against Mayorga. I seen the embarrassment on Margarito’s face after being caught with illegal hand-wrap. Shane would build hype against Mayweather or Pacquiao, (like De La Hoya) but in the end he’d get his winded butt kicked like Oscar De La Hoya also. Other than those three fighters, everyone else is a nobody or on the down end of their career. The light welterweight division is coming, I know everyone hears their footsteps.

Don’t be sad people, this fight will happen. Just not right now. In my my opinion, Floyd Mayweather Jr is like Achilles of Greece. He fights for Money and legacy. Though he has never lost in battle his legacy is incomplete without the win over prince Hector of Troy(Manny Pacquiao). By the way, we all know what happened to Prince Hector. So in closing I must say, GET ‘EM FLOYD!
