My schools were ok, but a majority of the teachers were young and fresh out of college. Not a bad thing really, but they coulda been more knowledgeful on many of the things they were instructing. They also lacked the experience. Now when your students have more experiences in racism and other issues than you do, it should be understandable why they are less likely to turn to you for advice. And they taught mainly European history throughout the entire school year. The only time black history would even come into the picture is in February (the shortest month of the year and one of the coldest). And instead of teaching it, they assigned it as a 'class project' or 'extra credit', which pissed me off many times. And I spoke my mind about it.
But those experiences came earlier and I was always taught If you're hungry for knowledge, start young, soak it up quick and on your own. Dont depend on them to feed it to you or your brain will die from starvation. I learned more from my own personal reading and studies than I did in school.
@Snubnoze
That aint true about not learning anything until you get to college cuz honestly, my first two years of college were easier than my first two years of high school. At some points you're mainly getting a review of the shit you did in high school, just a lil memory test. lol
And those chapters you didnt go through in high school WILL be in your college books. And what you learn in high school helps you out more than you know, some of my old high school tests/papers/notes were good feed to keep me on toes if my memory slacked up a bit.
Writing 10 to 20 page papers on topics I researched on in high school and political issues that interest me dont arouse my intellect, its just basically opinionative papers with blended facts. And thats mainly all you get served at you. The rest are open doors and if you can soak up information that you read through one good time, without having to go back over it again and again, take good notes and have a good memory, the exams aint shit.
Well, thats just MY opinion.
