Good question, some rappers are better in other areas where other rappers are weaker.
A "good" rapper doesn't have to be good all around but has strong points in certain areas.
There are lots of examples of this if you need'em.

There's are many reasons why I don't consider Biggie to be a good rapper, he's got the boring flow typical of New York rappers,
I already mentioned his voice, he has no versatility, and his beats weren't helping him.
He might've had good or average rhymes but who doesn't?
So do poets. And a lot of cats use rhyming dictionaries.

But what do you consider a "great" rapper?
It's safe to say that a great rapper is a rapper who is good in all areas?
I agree with your definitions of a good and a great rapper...as for biggies voice i liked it .when he first hit it reminded me of like a new york d.o.c. Versatility as far as flow i agree there is none, but for subject matter i thought his storytelling was crucial. Beats were behind the game...i thought his rhymes were extroardinay though but thanks for the reply...

@Fatal i am seasoned in this, man...i gave you my background and how i came to view things the way i do....why don't you just admit that eminem is your guy the songs that he wrote touch your heart or some shit....and the fact that you dismissed ras kass, aceyalone and all the others as mediocre and possibly not emcees shows your lack of underground awareness...study up cause obviously you didn't live it.

A Great rapper has to be top notch in all of these categorizes---during there time. I'll List examples of who i view as top notch in these catergorizes. I left out lyrics cause there are just to many definitions. Nature of the threat was lyrical than a motherfucker, but i viewed Balance's Matrix as more lyrical.

Flow-how smooth your words leave your mouth(Lynch, Big Daddy Kane, Aceyalone, Young droop)
Subject matter-showing some brains(Nas, Rakim, X raided)
Voice- god given (D.O.C., Cellski, CPO, Cougnut)
Passion-putting your heart out there (Pac, nickatina)
Bringing something new to the game (E40, First Degree)
or just be different (Kool Keith, Luke Skywalker)

for example my greatest rapper of all time is Kool Moe Dee (if you werent listening to him before the videos you would think wtf but during his time he was the man). Where my favorite is Chuck D. kool moe dee is the rapper who took Hip Hop from the party shit to the lyrical shit the game hasn't had such a dramatical change since. Chuck D introduced political rap as a genre and i love him for that. He wasn't the first to put out a political rap but he damn near erased everyone who came before him.

right. me and all my gangster ass homeboyz hop in tha ride and bump Eminem while cruizing tha hood. please. why dont you just admit you hate Eminem cuz he'z a whiteboy who made it big selling music you dont prefer? you're denying talent tha Eminem possesses over your cherished Notorious BIG. you wont admit it cuz you're obviously one of thoze who feelz Biggie is tha best shit to ever grace tha earth. sorry man but you're wrong. and if you were really so "seasoned" in this rap shit, you'd know wut im trying to tell you. let me ask you sumthing corndog, DO YOU RAP?

and the fact that you dismissed ras kass, aceyalone and all the others as mediocre and possibly not emcees shows your lack of underground awareness...study up cause obviously you didn't live it.
i didnt say anyone wuz mediocre aside from Biggie so get that shit outta here. wut tha fuck does "living it" have to do with anything? i coulda been 1 year old in 94 when Biggie's best shit came out, but wut would that have to do with anything? tha music didnt change over time. his albums are still tha same albums as they were when he first released them.

you can think i like Eminem all you want. it doesnt bother me. he's not a bad emcee, he'z actually very good. twista, tech n9ne, 2pac, crooked i.... they're all good emcees too. and all of them are better than Biggie ever wuz. i know you wont accept that but that'z your lack of knowledge when it comez to rap. tell me, do you think "welcome to my center, honies feel it deep in their placenta" is a hard rhyme? if so, you're tha one who needz to do sum research.

like i said im done witht his topic now. Biggie nut riderz and Eminem haterz alwayz have to make this shit into a big ass arguement. i dont give enough of a shit about either of those two to be coming here just to tell you why one is better than tha other. im finished here cuz we will get nowhere.

it does matter, this deals with comprehension of the era and definitely what was going on at the time...thats like me speaking down on johhny cash..saying that Jaheim is way tighter.....does that help?

I never spoke down on eminem. This goes back to comprehension.... what you must realize is that no one in the majors was spitting shit like that at the time. This is were rhymes started to get more lyrically vulgar....But fuck it ....it was fun anyway.:classic:
