I never really had a problem with admitted atheists in reality, but on the net forums, they are usually arrogant as hell and I don't like the way they talk down on people of faith with their noses in the air like they're better than anyone who disagrees with them. I myself am agnostic, but was raised christian.

In this case theists feel that we don't have a choice and a transcendental God can in no way be compared to our parents. Even with this knowledge of God we know nothing, so I don't know how you feel that God has answered all of our questions, people ask him/her different questions every night, while others seek out their own, others do both.

.
I think the point he is making, whether the question small or large, people are still "asking god" a question. Whether it be help. salvation, asnwer to life, or to get them through a midterm. Atheists dont ask ANYONE, they just DO.

For me the idea of an omnipotent supernatural being that controls human lives is so ridiculous and childish I can not view people who believe it as anything else other than second hand category people. I am sure you view grown folks who believe in Santa Claus the same way.

lol. religious people have been telling me im gonna go to hell if i dont side with them since i was in elementray school. so in reality who is really talking down on who? who really thinks they are better than those who disagree with them?
Were those religious kids white? This is a serious question and I'll explain why I asked later (and it has nothing to do with the recent topic.)

atheists, non-believers, are definitely more outspoken on the internet. why? because the christians will do whatever they can to DESTROY us if we express our beliefs openly.
That isn't true and you know it. The reason they are more outpsoken on the net is because they are cowards. If you believe that firmly in something you should be able to tell it like it is and say what you want. I don't care if you do it on some wacky talk show, write a book, make a record, etc--say what you want.

Hiding behind a screen and cowering behind proxies is bitchification and faggotry.

Who has destroyed Dawkins? Has he been hung from a cross? Who has destroyed the atheists who pushed for no ID in schools? No one.

Group A: tries to force Group B to believe in something.

Group B: does not believe in that something

Group A: makes personal attacks and badgers them, makes threats of burning in interneal damn nation.

Whos on the offensive here? an athiest is a non believer, how can you have a problem with that and not respect personal choice?

On this board the A group are atheists and evolutionists. The B group is believers.

Group B: does not believe in that something
B does not believe in evolution.

Group A: makes personal attacks and badgers them, makes threats of burning in interneal damn nation.
Look at ALL the threads started by atheists and evolutionists. Look at all the threads started by theists. You will see that the MAJORITY of threads started by atheists are ATTACKS against the other. Seriously, look at the last ten pages of threads and you'll see what I am talking about. When I point this out people say I'm "bitching and whining" yet YOU guys can say the same thing?

Hypocrisy again....

And it gets so out of hand that several of us are CENSORED for pointing the shit out.

Whos on the offensive here? an athiest is a non believer, how can you have a problem with that and not respect personal choice?
BOTH are non believers.

white christian kids, asian catholic kids, pasty freckled mormon kids.
Sounds just like the 8th grade graduating class of my nephews school. He was put in a private school for his second semester 8th grade year because he was too advanced for the public schools in vegas. He would often call me on the phone and tell me some of the shit the school kids would say about people especially atheists and poor people. Guess where they got it from? Parents and teachers, but luckily I already laced his boots, gave him a shit load of books to read (he's actually doing some summer program thats linked to sonoma state college) and was able to get past the bullshit the teachers and students where saying.

yeah man people should be able to say what they want but you know that has ramifications in this little world of ours. dawkins makes his money off that shit man, its not gonna hurt his career prospects. come down to squareville with me for a moment....the business world, the white collar world, is the land of WASP, if you honestly dont think shit is taboo i dont know what to tell you.
Yes it is taboo in certain arenas I mean look at Imus for example. That man CONSTANTLY said shit about blacks, but it bit him on the ass only recently. Hardaway made comments about gays and it hurt him. My thing is when are people going to realize that we have teh right to say what we want and that saying what we want should NOT stop us from doing business with each other. Do you think I am going to not do business with an atheist? Hell have the christians I encounter don't believe the shit they claim they do, so why should I limit myself?

a person could sniff lines and beat strippers with these fools all day but if they say they smoke weed and dont believe in jesus they would be promptly told to clean out their fuckin desk.
That is due to the hypocrisy and disbelief of those in power. That is something that needs to be addressed by those who are not status quo.

just look at the george bush quote. that was the soon to be most powerful man in the world talking.
Now look at this one:

What is at stake is more than one small country, it is a big idea - a new world order...to achieve the universal aspirations of mankind...based on shared principles and the rule of law...The illumination of a thousand points of light...The winds of change are with us now.
Yet people will write that off as tin foil talk and lunacy.

Are you ever going to give this up HERESY? You've become a little whiny brat that never shuts up. For the last time, your conversation with ThaG being deleted had NOTHING to with science/religion/evolution/creationism/etc. and everything to do with the flame war that the two of you constantly engage in.

man! preach! Here in Kansas City we have a church (thats growing) called Restoration Church. These guys are from California, ex-gang bangers, drug addicts, etc. I mean they will show you their Heroine marks! Anyway, I always found it interesting that the belief in God changes everything.

Like my mom would never talk to one of these guys on the street, BUT they believe in God so she will talk to them when she sees these guys "marketing" for money on the street.

Phil,
your situation with your wife is much much much like mines. Its funny that my wife is always asking me things about the world and what I believe. Sometimes she wonders how I became an Atheist, but you should see her eyes when we watch the History, Discover, etc channels. She is amazed.

Last night I read to hear the preface of Intelligent Thought. It seems like a really good book, go find it!

i feel ya on the history channel stuff. at first she wouldnt watch anything that even attempted to question christianity, now shes a little more willing. 5 years ago she would have NEVER DREAMED of watching the davinci code but when it came out on dvd we rented it and she really liked it. i let her know it was fiction but it still sparked her interest.

You must feel guilty. They have pils, creams and dreams that can solve that problem.

@ jlmac

i think 9/11 and the whole conflict in the middle east has renewed peoples inquiry and questioning of religion. i read an article about this. basically for the generation that was too young to remember the first gulf war, this new conflict opens up our eyes to say "wow, there are actually other people out there who dont believe the exact same thing as me". this opens up the skepticism, but also polarizes the fundamentalists. how can theists honestly argue that suicide bombers wont go to paradise with 72 virgins? afterall, they defend their views all the time by throwing out phrases like "faith", or "you cant disprove it". i think a lot of people have awoken when looking at how ridiculous protecting a view just because it is "holy". either its all ok, or none of it is. i think a lot of christians turned away because they realized their justification for their beliefs is the exact same justification jihadists use, and looking in the mirror is painful for some.
No doubt. 9/11 is a huge marketing subject by the CHRISTIAN fundamentalist in America. Which is why we see things like the "Jesus Camp" going on, teaching children to listen to George Bush because "he fights those demon muslims"....

R-I-D-I-C-U-L-O-U-S

and sad.

And these children are the same people you speak about nhojsmith. They are the ones being victimized by the Christian fundamentalist and being brainwashed to believe Osama Bin Laden is the Antichrist.

Is it thinking they are better than you or is it their conviction that leads them to say those types of things, bro? Sure, SOME think they are better than you, but I am lead to believe most just believe they are doing the right thing mentioning what they consider to be truth to you.
