Guitar is guitar. Kind of. You might want to get an instructor that plays the kind of music you're interested in playing as he might help you develop the rhythm and feel for it. But essentially all guitars teachers will teach you chords, how to read tabs, and apply general music theory.

Just make sure you get the kind of guitar you need. There are also Spanish guitars. I'm pretty sure everything's the same as a 'normal' guitar except for the number of frets.
Thanks Bro!

My family is from Michoacan and I know that state is very famous for making Guitars. They also make Mandolins which seem pretty cool, but the only time I hear those played up here in the states is Country music.......

I'd like to own one though.

What do you mean exactly? Is there one that I should really consider over the other?

Own 2 strats, 2 teles, and my white falcon. I like my MIM strat just because it's my baby. It can take a beating and keep on playing.

never had the chance to play on anything vintage. although i'd love the chance to get all bluesy on a vintage fender telecaster.
what kind of music you play, blues mostly? what about mexican/latin in general?

It's hard to answer but if you're going to be playing banda, ranchera, or regional mexican music chances are you might want an acoustic. If you're trying to do more contemporary music you could get an electric. But that's just a general outline. There are hollow bodied guitars, hybrid guitars, classical guitars, spanish guitars, and different tones you can get from different guitar makes.

my advice would be to buy a cheap one. usually electrics are good starter guitars because they're easier on your fingers than acoustics but if you want to learn Mexican music like Nortena or Banda an acoustic might be the way to go. I prefer Fenders in the electric department and if you can afford it Martins are the best acoustics.

Mostly classic rock and funk.

Blues is awesome because it helped me develop timing and rhythm. Plus it's great music for jamming.

I don't really play much Mexican or Latin music. Not really my thing. But I will play some Rock en Espanol or more familiar Mexican tunes.

Keyboards are *the* quintessential instrument.

Piano is used to teach every music student music theory. Unless you're talking about some other kind of keyboard.
