whats the better purchase...an 02 pontiac gran am with 102k miles or a 1996 acura tl with 150k miles???

they both around the same price n iono what to buy....
why the fuck are you asking this? don't you know pontiacs are pieces of shit. they're AMERICAN made lol.......plus, they outta business i thought...

and a 96 TL is the first year they made that shit....so i'd NOT buy it.

i had a 97 2.2 CL and it ran really well....up to about 130K. then my gas mileage went to shit. Even after I replaced my cracked header, and the entire exhaust, the fuel filter, radiator, on top of regular oil changes.....so its up to you.

and Acura will fuck you on parts, etc.....they charge out the ASS....and, you're basically buying a Honda Accord with an Acura logo, paying more for parts and service....for the "premium" brand as they tried to sell it to me...i said, "this shit is a honda with an A." premium my ass. so i went to subaru.

acura is the more high end/luxurious version of a honda.. same companies.. its what lexus is to a toyota.

the new TL's have some sick ass headlights.. you see a straight line of light around you.
more high end? lol....it's a high end honda. honda + leather + an A = acura.

fuck that. they tried to get me to buy a 09 rdx @ an 11% interest rate over 6 1/2 fucking years. they're fuckin thieves...and i never trusted them to work on my CL....it always came back with issues it didn't have before, even after i spend $700 at the dealer for a water pump and timing belt.

If your power steering fluid tube leaks, like mine did. They will try to charge you 520 FUCKING DOLLARS.

I bought those for $5, pulled the clamps, put it on, filled up the fluid again, tested it. And $20 later my shit was fixed.

like i said. FUCK ACURA.

if cared for properly the acura will outlast the pontiac before requiring any major work. I've heard of hondas and acuras still being driven at 200,000-300,000 miles no problem. the fukin door handles will usually break before the engine goes, IF ITS BEEN CARED FOR.

You need to check if the timing belt and water pump on the TL have been replaced recently. They must be changed ever 70,000-80,000 miles and it can be a big job ($500-$750 depending on who you know). If it breaks while you are driving, you may as well drive the car into the ocean and walk away. it will destroy your engine.

^$520 huh..the labor was probably $500 lol
Close! lol. The tube was like $100 from them. At NAPA, or some shit, for the best brand available was like $20 but my boy got a nice discount cause of his job and triple A...so it was like 5-8 bucks instead of 20....fuck man, the fluid cost more than that. lol....

it was easy as fuck tho...unclamp, remove hose. put in new hose. clamp together. fill power steering fluid reservoir. start car, rotate tires back and forth several times to ensure proper rotation and power steering works.

20 minutes at the most and my boy and i were done.

i told dude at Acura, you guys have no idea how to do business. i'm not some schmuck like these yuppy faggots who come in here and spend $5,000 for repairs they don't need. i know what's wrong with my shit and how much it SHOULD cost....from then on...my boy and i did all the work on it. and i saved AT LEAST $5,000 over 2 years.

i've heard of the same thing with pontiac. it depends on how well you take care of your car ,how you drive it, and the conditions you drive it in.

Per the bold...HELL YES. You better check that. Acura WILL charge you at the very least $700 for that shit.

And it BETTER have it's fuckin 120K tune up or a 150K check up...like it should. if your timing belt goes otu when you are driving...yeah i agree...you may as well drive it into the ocean. cause your engine will be fucked. and then you might as well put in an h22 lol...from the 97 prelude with auto trans. but that works better on the CL...hahaha

BY THE WAY....to get to your timing belt i'm pretty sure they gotta move the water pump...or vice versa...so if you gotta do one, DO BOTH at the same time no matter what the fuck they tell you...cause it'll cost you way fuckin more to do them separately.

Man it all depends on how well these vehicles have been taken care of in the past, and you won't be able to find that out. Your best bet would be to take them both to a mechanic you trust and have them check them out.

Acura's if taken care of will last easily twice as long as a ponticac / GM. But if the Acura had been treated like shit and the Pontiac was taken care of the pontiac will last you longer. Dealers will powerwash the shit out of a car's engine , you wont be able to spot oil , trans, coolant leaks easily.

GM's pushrod 3.1 / 3.4 / 3.8 litre engines are runners for sure and pretty cheap fixes and easy for do it yourselfers. Acura is gonna be expensive as hell to work on and get parts for, but if checked out by a mechanic to be in sound working condition , will probably be better for you.

Each and every used car with over 100k miles on them are different, as they have been through different conditions...

well the thing is, i did a shit load of research. the new ones don't have the same issue as the old ones with oil burning (unless you drive 100+ all the time, which i don't) and the head gasket issue has been somewhat dealt with.

the people that got rid of them, probably went and got a new one...lol...or they didn't know how to drive a stick...or didn't like how the turbo has to spool, even tho spool time is minimal.

i took mine to 140 this last weekend. fucker is fast. and runs like a fuckin beast. lol

bmw's are pieces of shit tho unless it's under warranty....word to the wise...get rid of that thing before your warranty is up, unless you wanna spend like $1-5 racks each time you go to the dealer for anything but an oil change. lol :) the new m3 twin turbos look sick tho.

i'm probably gonna trade mine in before my warranty is up. but i'ma pay it off quick. my finance was like 5 years, and i've already paid 1/4 of it in 6 months. lol

didnt get a new one...got a '97...my dad is a mechanic, so i just gotta pay for parts and help him work on the car and its all good

the car is pretty fun to drive though. comfortable, good power, decent gas mileage...i enjoy it

i'll probably end up gettin a subaru in a couple years
