a friend of mine got the htc desire and wants me to root it. It's no problem ill google it but I thought I would ask here for simple tips and if there is something I should think of when doing it? rooting is different for every android phone right?

everytime I put the PC36IMG on my sd card and boot into the boot loader I keep getting a main version older update failed
