hopefully one of you tech geniuses can help me out here:
ok, so i rooted my phone and put smoked glass v4.0 on it...i followed droidreview's instructions on these videos:

I'm overclocking at 950 using setcpu
so i have the 2.1 features like 3d launcher, speech to text, pinch to zoom, the new gallery, etc...but it says that it's still firmware 2.0.1 (buld number ESD56, baseband version C_01.3E.01P, kernal version 2.6.29-omap1-hgb9fcbc3e35d9-dirtywalter@lanbox #50) I dont know what all that means.
on top of that im having problems loading widgets, lots of force closes on simple actions, generally laggy...although at times it runs great. (edit: i switched from "launcher" to "home" so i dont have the 3d launcher anymore, but it's running very smoothly now)
sooooooo, i think i want to change to a new rom, unless that's not the issue...but how would i go about doing that?? do i just download the files, put them in the nandroid folder and do the reboot+X thing??? or do i have to do more?? if anybody could point me to a youtube link or something that could help me try new roms from the point i'm already at...
also, i hear about roms and themes and kernels and all this stuff...is all that downloaded seperately or are they packaged???

i have a motorola droid, and i used setCPU to overclock at 950mhz...for some reason ever since i switched to the non-3d launcher, it's been running very smoothly.
but yeah, that was also i question i had, when i tell it to clear the cache and all the user data n shit....is that gonna delete all my apps? and my contacts??
cuz i would like to try out some of the other roms to get a comparison...

I switched to blackdroid's ultimate 8.1 yesterday and it is nice. As far as Lazy goes...that 2.1 Launcher has been known to cause F/C's and is a bit laggy. If you were on 2.0.1 it means that you have a ROM that is still based on 2.0.1 w/2.1 features. In order to get a 2.1 ROM like Blackdroids Ultimate or Bugless Beast 2.1 you need to wipe cache and all that.
You can backup all your apps and data with Titanium Backup paid version. The free one will just backup your apps. Your Google acct stores your contacts so as soon as you login with your new ROM it will Sync and restore those contacts. I think me and Likwid are the only ones with Droids here.

ya i did it on my sprint htc touch pro before the touch screen went out, it was cool to fuck with, but laggy & buggy. but gave me a taste of android and i ran out and got the hero.
that 4g evo phone sounds raw! just when i get the hero they announce this shit... smh... now im waiting for that 2.1 update for my hero.
also likwid im pretty sure i ran into you on live not to long ago, before i knew your live name. it was on cod, i swear i seen that name...

Fuck all that, I got a piece of shit Motorola phone from Cricket. Works great for me, one monthly price and all unlimited.

Honestly, I'd rather be harder to contact. With all these exotic phones, there's no excuse for not being in touch. I'd find it highly annoying if I was hit up every second. If you use it for business purposes, then so be it, but if your just an average Joe trying to be connected at every level, your just a drama loving ass bitch.

BTW, I'm not jealous at all. I can have all those fancy phones if I wanted, I just don't see the point. I just think it's all based on immature behavior and nothing good comes out of it. It just sets you up for failure in today's world. There's absolutely no point in being in touch that much IMHO, unless as I mentioned, you use it for your business or job.
Alls I need is simple talk and text. Works for me, no headaches, no drama.
