So was it a matter of not having BBM available for Android that killed it for you? I understand the battery life thing cuz I had to change the way I thought of battery life coming from a Motorola Q.
No, it was overall communications. SMS, MMS, IMs, emails, voicemail, etc are all in one spot and also in their own spot if you prefer it that way. They are all much more integrated with each other and their respective contacts.
Have you used a Blackberry before? If not, most BB users can tell you that nothing can come close to it in communications. I didn't think it would be that much of a drop off with Android, but it was.
In web browsing, media, and having fun apps, the N1 will murder the BB. So they both have their strengths. If you look back, I was having a lot of fun at first, but quickly realized it wasn't that good in comparison to a BB as far as communicating. I can have all that fun stuff in a better environment on my computer.
Also, where I usually am in my house I need UMA, otherwise I will lose service sporadically. BBM was not even a factor, it was communications, UMA, and then battery.
Edit: I'll stop threadjacking as I most likely won't even be in this thread anymore.
