You need to flash a recovery image to get to the recovery mode

no what i want to actually get into is download mode, and to do this i am suppose to hold volume down and the home button while turning it on. but it wont do it. its a widespread problem with this phone and until i fix it i wont be able to flash anything, because to flash it i need to get it into download mode.

So you're holding down both volume buttons at the same time?

Either way I just tried holding both and it didnt work so it dowsnt work. The phone has another carriers firmware I was following instructions off another website trying to flash the firmware from my carrier, which asked me to hold down the home button, the volume down button and power it on.

JUST ROOTED MY PHONE DROIDGOONS! Bout to go through this thread and find some tight ROM's to install. Thanks for the advice on rooting, it was hella easy and now I'm a real treal droidgang user!

My rants on the droid.

1) Unable to send high quality video (480p) through txting, even with a aftermarket app (handcent sms) says "Msg size limit reached"

2) Unable to attach a large file through email. Same error "message size limit reached"

3) Unable to upload high quality video to youtube on the phone without being connected to wifi

4) Tired of having to turn off GPS,WIFI and Bluetooth and turn brightness all the way down in order for the battery to last longer than 1hr.

5) Redraw issues(LAG on everything you do on the phone prior to rooting). The time it takes after you click the home screen button, to load your home screen and actually see the icons. i tried all the different "Launchers" but nothing seemed to fix the issue. After rooting however the issues are gone! :)

6) Stock apps can only be deleted after rooting the phone
