Devil's advocate
Should Lebron feel guilty that now the city of cleveland could potentially lose 20 - 40 million dollars next season? Also i didnt know this, but cleveland is the 2nd poorest city in the nation.
Yes, he should. As I said, sports are often bigger than who player X plays for, and players should be aware of the sensitivities of the fans. Especially in this case, when you have grown up in the same area and you are painfully aware of everything that people there have gone through throughout the years - all the sports failures, the post-industrial decay of the economy and the infrastructure, all of that. You simply can not do what he did. If he just left, fine, but why the whole media circus and why completely destroying your team in the process by waiting for so long and not leaving them any options to sign anyone?

Why wud sum1 care where sum1 wants 2 play basketball? no skin off my moccasins. hav a warm glass of shut the hell up, kobe got drafted by the hornets & demanded a trade b4 he even played a fuckin game hes a bitch 2.
There is a big difference between a Number 16 draft pick coming out of high school that nobody was really taking seriously at the time demanding a trade to a major market, and the most talented player in the world, who was from the are and who enjoyed semi-god status there doing what he did to Cleveland

I think he shoulda stayed but thats just me. ThaG has raised a lot of good points.
I also read a comment on ESPN.com that i agree with. If he was all about winning, and about taking a pay cut, then why couldnt Bosh and Wade join him in Cleveland? Especially, Wade who has a ring already. Its bigger than winning for Lebron, he just wants to make his name bigger than it is, and this is the way to do it.
I really do feel sorry for the city of cleveland and the cavaliers organization as a whole, a lot of money will be lost and so will jobs.
But at the end of the day, i'm not mad at the nigga. He a man, and he made his choice.

I want to point out that I am not a Cavaliers or Lebron fan and I have never been, I am just absolutely pissed at the whole media circus and the outcome of it. Moments like this are when a society hits rock bottom...

They didn't have cap space for all 3 of them

Its bigger than winning for Lebron, he just wants to make his name bigger than it is, and this is the way to do it.
Well, so far he has done the opposite. If they win a few title, it may be forgotten with time, but this is not at all guaranteed.

As I pointed out, Gasol's FG% went up by 7% after he joined the Lakers and benefited from teams double teaming Kobe. He was an All-Start once if I am not mistaken and he never won a playoff game, and while he is definitely benefiting from the fact that he's playing for the Lakers and the Lakers are the Hollywood team of the league, both in the literal and metaphorical sense, he was rated nowhere near as high as he is now when he was in Memphis.

For all his amazing assists numbers, no players has been playing better with Lebron than before that, something to think about
Just to add to this, memphis has done nothing but improve since trading gasol. EVEN THOUGH HE'S SUCH AN AMAZING SUPERSTAR THAT KOBE WOULD NEVER WIN A TITLE WITHOUT AND THE LAKERS GOT HIM FOR NOTHING MORE THAN A SNUGGIE BECAUSE THE LEAGUE IS FIXED.

memphis grizziles regular season records the last few years:

2009-2010 40-42

2008-2009 24-58

2007-2008 22-60

obviously the grizz made the right move for them and gasol has improved the way all players do when playing with a top five all time great. thus making it look like the most lopsided trade in sports history. gasol isn't a wade/lebron level player, better than bosh though. so the comparison doesn't really work. comparing to kobe/shaq does, except for the fact that kobe couldn't even break into the starting lineup when shaq came over.

first of all... it's not up to Lebron to get Bosh and Wade to come to Cleveland... it's up to Bosh and Wade...

but it doesn't matter anyways because the cap space wasn't there for all 3 players

and Lebron tried to get Bosh to come to Cleveland in a sign an trade deal, they had something worked out with Toronto, but Bosh didn't wanna go to Cleveland...

nobody wants to go to Cleveland, even with Lebron there... he knew he was gonna have to leave town

it is sad that Cleveland is gonna lose revenues and jobs possibly jobs from this... but I mean, should one man really be responsible for an entire city? he's just a basketball player... he never said he wanted to be responsible for the financial hardships of Cleveland... maybe Cleveland shouldn't have put themselves in a situation where they were so dependent on Lebron staying in town... they knew this day could possibly come

should have opened up new businesses other places besides right by the arena or something, I dunno... but a pro athlete is responsible for one thing.... going out and playing his game

You have to go back farther than that:

Memphis Grizzlies record since '01 when Gasol was drafted:

'01-'02: 23-59 Gasol leading scorer
'02-'03: 28-54 Gasol leading scorer
'03-'04: 50-32 Gasol leading scorer
'04-'05: 45-37 Gasol 2nd leading scorer (injured)
'05-'06: 49-33 Gasol leading scorer

They have improved a couple of years after he left but you can see how big of an impact he had.

At least there are a few people who have a heart...I know Cleveland isn't a place that gets a whole lot of respect.

Lebron shouldn't be held responsible for the money Cleveland will lose...but he was born in the area...he knows how hard things were way before he even was a pro...and you would think he would at least care.

That's the main problem people have with this...he hasn't shown he has cared AT ALL. Not one bit of love for the people that supported him his entire life.

No but Antawn Jamison is (a legit #2), who was left off your list. He had been averaging 20 a game his entire career before coming to Cleveland.
they never brang in a offcial #2... shaq(washed),jamison(washed),mo williams is about as good as fisher... and im talking fisher right now not fisher when he was in his prime... they didn't do the things they did for kobe and jordan for lebron thats why he went to south beatch... he's a dope player but a player can only bus they ass for so long before they say enough is enough

thats why im curious as to how its clevelands fault nobody wanted to play there? more fault lies with lebron in that aspect.
no, more fault lies in the fact that players would rather be in cities like Miami, Orlando, and LA

there's a lot that guys into these guys decisions as far as where they wanna go... and it's not all based on basketball... this is where they're going to be living and moving their families to

no offense to Cleveland, but it's not the most attractive city to move to

Like you've even been there. Some people move there and fall in love with it...some not so much.

But really I think most people would pick Miami...or some place with warmer weather. It takes a certain type of person/personality to live in the midwest.

I'm already over Lebron though.

I think this is really bad for the NBA. Chris Paul was saying (halfway joking) that he was gonna form his own big 3 in NY with Melo.

You got players discussing where they are gonna go in a year or two from now...moving to a more attractive place...small market teams like Cleveland, Milwaukee, Memphis etc. have virtually no chance to succeed.

Now these teams have to tank it and hope they find another Lebron or Durant just to have a chance.
