Yeah Nate dogg can't really sing very well ( Live) I remember him and Warren G performing regulators when it first came out I think it was on Arsenio Hall..I was like, damn that shit sounds horrible...and autotune aint new at all, they even had the plug in installed in the Mackie digital 8 Bus mixers in the late 90's, and before then pitch correction and harmonizers were effects from a few companies like EVENTIDE. I really do not believe that if Nate Dogg was any healthier things would be different because Nate Dogg has been pretty irrelevant for a long time. Nate Dogg put out some great music and I feel fortunate to have been able to listen to him, but his time like LV, Levitti, are gone.
Most music has a time period, and then it is off to something else seems to be a 10 year window, and if an artist can not change with the times, well they become irrelevant. This can be seen in Rock and R&B..Look at the Isley Brothers...They been around since the late 50's early 60's who from that time is relevant.....Ron Isley made changes with the times and had much sucess over the last 10 years. and prior. Where is Lil Jon? he had songs on the radio for years......maybe he was a one trick pony T-Pain..never liked his music...he has been doin his auto-tune thing for Awhile, and I think we are at the end of his auto-tune effect driven songs...I hear alot of people bashing those songs, and then Kanye had his fans mad with his recent Auto-tune infactuation..this coupled with every kid with a computer trying to mimic The auto-tune Effect as seen on many Myspaces, and You-tube has put a knife in the heart of Auto-tune effect and I think it will be on its way out sometime this year or the next.
So i agree..Dont be mad at T-Pain for what Akon Said, but in the same sentence I do not support the T-Pain type music that he has been putting out....its just not for me...and Nate Dogg even though I like his music...he is through musically( on the mainstream level) and letting a bitch get at you to where you want to chase a bitch on the freeway...thats another story (Scratches head in disgust)
Rap music as well as other music is going in a direction that will make many of us sit back and reminisce those days when shit was poppin, I think that there is a market for everything old and new and those who have success will learn how to tap those markets in a different way because making radio friendly songs, and using the same blueprint as many have before is of no significant use, I almost think its back to basics...takin shit back to the streets..the people, not the C.E.O's thats how rap music even came to the level it did, because the streets was a big part of what was hot, to an extent it still is, but many artists are skipping this step, and C.E.O's played an important role as well, but those days are over...there will be fewer, and fewer artists with mainstream numbers, so what other choice is there but to build a fan base..look at small restaraunts...even though they may not be a chain like some big ones they still can make money..because they built there own fan base.
