1300 yards in 14 games as a ROOKIE is GREAT...are you crazy? Even if you subtract that record setting game, he STILL has over 1000 yards AS A ROOKIE sharing TIME in the backfield.
That's funny, because the last time I was on here the people of Siccness Sports had come to the conclusion that 1500+ is impressive, anything else is nothing.

Can the Siccness be wrong?

he split time and got injured and he was a rookie. thats very impressive and if he didnt share touches or got unjured he woulda got 2000 easily

For one, AP was injured for 2 games...wouldnt that further solidify his award? Ya know, 1300+ yards in only 14 games. On TOP of all that, AP SHARED duties with Chester, and STILL got 1300+ yards.

Unlike Willis, AP cant play with a fucked up leg, being a RUNNING BACK and all. Matter of fact, if AP had the same injury as Willis, he would have a real difficult time playing too becuase RB's need both hands to run effectrively. See Shaun Alexander.

Yes, that was the sound of your argument being deflated.

:knockout:

umm splitting carries is like a 2 on 1 fight.

Exactly.

If AP was NOT a rookier and was considereed a top RB in the game, then YES, getting 1500 yards should be a standard. See LT. However, AP was a rookie that missed time AND shared carries. 1300 yards is impressive. Take away 500 yards in two games and you have 800 yards. Thats about right for a rookie RB getting solid time in the NFL.

umm splitting carries is like a 2 on 1 fight.
Ummm.. no its not. Basically, it means that instead of him having the FULL load of carries, he managed to get what he did by SHARING carries. If He had even HALF the carries that Chester had, who KNOWS what his total would be.

AP = 14th in the NFL in carries. 5.6 yds/c

Portis = 1st in the league in carries. 3.9 yds/c

In other words, more carries does NOT mean more yards. More yards in LESS carries = GOOD.

That one game boosted his average, and it was just ONE GAME. 1300 yards is not spectacular either, regardless of whether or not he was injured.

That being said, it is no surprise that Peterson won. He's an offensive player who did well. That beats a stellar defensive player every time in the eyes of Associated Press voters. I wasn't expecting Willis to get this award.

I'm not saying Peterson isn't deserving, just pointing out some things.
this award was voted on by fans not the AP. One Game? did you see the game against Chicago when he rushed for 224 yards and 3 touchdowns? He has said that the injury affected his play which was clear. He had a good game against Detroit (116 yards & 2tds) the first week back but he aggravated the injury and wasn't near 100% for the rest of the season. I'm not saying Willis didn't have a good year but Peterson clearly had the better year and deserved it more. 1300 yards is even more impressive because Chester Taylor had 844 yards, Peterson wasn't even the started until after the Chicago game.

Minn's line was surprisingly ranked 15th in the NFL, and AP split his carries with taylor.

Inconsistent as people may say he is, he still managed to be 2nd in rushing leaders, AS WELL AS break the record for most rushing yards in a game.

Only a biased 9er fan would think Willis deserved the title over that.

I'm usually biased AGAINST the 9ers, and I think Willis deserved it just as much as AP. I don't wanna take anything away from Peterson, but Willis led the league in tackles in his rookie year!

^^^so if they equally deserve it then i say give it to the person who made a bigger impact on a team and vikings record was better. and AP broke some NFL records as well. AP deserves it more but only by a hair

willis deserves credit no doubt but AP single handedly won games for the vikings and he had 1000+ yds as a rookie runner which is amazing. and that game with the bears and then the game against the chargers just sealed it.

and when AP and Willis "faced off" AP was injured so it's unfair to say willis outplayed em

APs leg injury is just as significant as Willis Hand being broken, AP uses his legs, Willis uses his hands.

With that said, Willis played with a injury which lessened his effectiveness and still beasted fools.
I think thats what they were trying to say, I woulda picked Lynch Over AP...

well then u have not ever played LB. it is very easy to play with a broken hand when it's casted trust me. the only thing it really effects alot is interceptions. AP fucked his knee and still came in with a brace for his team and thats another reason he gets extra points lol. but yeah a hand injury for a LB and a knee injury for a RB is completely different trust me

So youre saying tackling a hard runner is easy with 1 hand? P willis broke his hand and still came in with a cast for his team, and that get more points.
