Nice list. But for bullshit purposes, let's say this much, in that era, all that shit was mainstream.
That era? Those off the top classics span over half a decade and bridge totally different periods in hip hop music not to mention content, region, sound, and influence.

GottaGo said:
The best shit has been comin out of the independent circuit for a while.
my list includes independent releases and releases on fledgling companies. so your point isn't really valid

GottaGo said:
So you're essentially saying that unless it is mainstream and conforms to "traditional" standards then it isn't a classic.
i'm saying these albums are classic, at least in part, because they SET the standards that you now call "traditional". they were innovators for the time.

GottaGo said:
that assume they have the authority to judge what's real and what's not.
that's the point of the thread to judge what's classic and what's not. in my judgment there have been no classics in '06, i gave criteria for a classic to show how i arrived at that judgment and listed some classic albums for comparison, which is more than you've done, to prove my point.

GottaGo said:
Innovation, content, and social impact to a state region or a peoples is just as important.
Every one of the albums i listed as classic has been innovative, full of creative content, and showed itself to have state, regional, national significance. Try and say otherwise

Let's agree to disagree and be done with it.
we never agreed to begin with

albums are labeled classics for different reasons by different people. for example a nigga can get his dick suck by his chick and her firend while playing MC asddf? new album and they call it classic from teh memory of the experience they had. Its mostly opinions. For example I never liked that Illmatic album I bought the tape back when it first dropped and only like the last track that he had the video too. Just like a couple cats on here didnt like 2 Pac. everyone and they grandma calls his albums classics. Its just opinions

Oh coy I do like Illmatic it is in my top 10, but Makaveli the Don is definately classic and one of the best five rap cds of all times. In order to appreciate it it needs to be played on top quality sound system and you need to hear it about 100 times. Its my only cd I never get sick of, every time I hear it I like it a little more.

I am not a big Pac fan but his best album is Me Against the World IMO. Pac was bigger than rap music though. I can see why people love him and his albums I just don't think he was that great of a MC. Was he good? Yes. Is Pac a legend? Of course. But with those two things being said he is prob. the most over hyped artist in any genre of music I have ever heard. I personally think people are more in touch with the passion and aggression he put into his music than the actual words. I mean you can hear the pain and frustration in his voice when he raps about those types of things.

I think it's funny because I'm not comparing the two life style wise but commercially wise and how they were marketed 2Pac and 50 Cent are almost exactly the same. They both commercialized on what was big in rap at the time. With Pac it was gangsta rap and with 50 it's rap for the bitches. They both gloated about how they had been shot too.

The thing that I didn't like the most about Pac is he jumped on whatever trend was hot. 2Pacalypse Now had that straight underground NYC sound that was big at the time. Strictly 4 My N.I.G.G.A.Z. was kind of inbetween NYC and Cali stuff. Me Against the World was straight up Cali but not on a real gangsta tip. Then he gets locked up and when Gangsta Rap is at it's height comes out with All Eyez on Me. If he was alive now he might be chilling down south with a gold grill, who knows.

I know people like VSTXDJ, Oh Coy, and myself are in the minority on thinking Pac is over-rated but that's how we feel. None of us have said Pac isn't a legend and one of the most influential rappers ever though...because that would just be plain stupid.

By the way we certainly high jacked this thread lol.

I agree with the pac statements....dood is great, but overrated.....biggie was too. as far as dead rappers go, big L & Pun run circles around them....about what gottago said about him liking street shit, illmatic was street at the time. and wu-tang was the exact opposite of mainstream when 36 chambers dropped....

ti's king would be my consideration for album of the year, with 40's in close second, but neither are close to classics.....(unless hyphy becomes mainstream, then 40's would be)

my opinion on other albums this year:
jr writer - ok, I need a few more listens, but the beats could be alot better
busta - I was highly dissappointed with this waste of a download
cam'ron - suprisingly good...but still had alot of filler
quinn - another very good album, but not great
bailey - pretty good, could've been better
yung joc - was like the same song on repeat....except "don't play with it" slaps something vicious
dogg pound - 2 thumbs down, had about 3 good songs
kurupt - (i wish I had 2 hands so I can give those titties) 4 thumbs down
bullys wit fullys - had a couple tight songs, but I already had those before the album dropped
Boot Camp Click - :ermm:

I do thing that lupe fiasco could be a classic tho, and will probably compete for album of the year with ti & game (if that shit ever comes out).....the advance was great
