Andre Berto is trying to join the UFC. Could definitely see him do well fighting 135'ers. (I know he fights at 147 in boxing, but the 145'ers in UFC cut from like 170, so it would probably be in his best interest to fight at 135).

A lot of the UFC 135'ers in the top 15 stand and bang. If he gets some good match ups with strikers he could be decent.

His brother fought MMA a while back and I think I remember them saying his dad had some kind of grappling background. Not sure how much Andre got into grapping himself, if at all.

I'd be surprised if Berto could get down to 135. It'd be a bad idea IMO to try and cut more weight than you've ever cut to compete in a brand new sport.

Not only his brother, but his sister is or was an MMA fighter too. He's from a fighting family essentially and he's the only boxer if I remember correctly while the rest were/are involved in other combat sports, his dad was a kickboxer.

So I can see why he would want to, especially since his Boxing career doesnt have much left of a future. Worked out well for Holly Holm who had a similar situation (good Boxing career, started to decline and money was drying up, went to MMA and obviously got a massive win over UFCs biggest star at the time).

But I hope the fans who are left who that are still about boxing vs MMA (usually UFC specifically), who shit on boxing because they love MMA or vice versa, start to fade away as we see more fighters compete in multiple combat sports, and just accept all combat sports and that fighters can learn from them all.

Maybe Berto can win a significant fight or two. Although I think he's way too bulky and not athletic enough (or flexible), remember when he went blind when he tried out the shoulder roll? lmao

I don't even know how to call this one. Such crazy talent and such different approaches. I think I still favor Rigo a bit but Loma is amazing at what he does. Can't think of a more interesting fight from a technical standpoint.

Have you seen Rigo's twitter? Either he or whoever runs his account is posting they don't have a contract for the fight. Boxrec still has Loma listed as fighting TBA.

They better make this fight happen. I'm leaning towards Loma, tbh, but man I really want to see it happen.

That doesn't even matter though, she KOd Ronda when she was at her peak in stardom and undefeated. Who people had as the best fighter on the planet (which was stupid but people all over the place were legit arguing she was this unstoppable force, comparing her dominance to Mike Tyson, Michael Jordan and the likes. People seriously wanted her to fight Mayweather and there was a lengthy public debate about the mythical match-up!). That's BIG success, especially for a woman who was at the tail end of her boxing career and past her best days in the ring.

So, she wins a few MMA fights, gets the big one against Ronda and not only gets the KO but absolutely dominated her.

That in itself led to other fights. Fights she lost but pretty high profile nonetheless (Mesha Tate after Ronda, lost two decisions after that and just won her most recent fight). So she's 11-3 in MMA, including a win over undefeated super star Ronda Rousey. I'd say that's not bad, all things considered. Imagine an MMA fighter at the tail end of his career, switching to boxing, gets a few warm-up wins under his belt and then beats Gennady Golovkin. That's essentially what Holm did, on the female side of things of course. So it was a smart career move and she's made some money, money she wasn't getting anymore in boxing.

I read it was a brief stint in UFC, going 0-3. I know he was a kick boxer but don't know much about his career prior to his UFC fights.

Everyone in that family is a fighter. Both Berto brothers wrestled too, one of them was a state wrestling champion, pretty sure Andres brother and the younger sister was doing jiu-jitsu tournaments as a kid and teenager.

So many dope fights to make still at super flyweight even with Chocolatito getting knocked out. Any mixture of Inoue/Estrada/Sor Rungvisai then you can have a mixture of Chocolatito/Cuadras/winner of Yafai/Ishida.

I love that HBO did an entire card of super flyweight. Hopefully with Inoue coming to the states it can still generate enough buzz for HBO to keep up with it.

lol you're probably right. It's extremely rare guys retire on top and stay retired. The temptation is always there.

Wards a weird case though because after whooping Kovalevs ass, he's arguably p4p #1 fighter on the planet. In fact i don't think there is much of an argument that he isn't. And yet there are no big fights for him out there. Adonis Stevenson would be pretty big in Canada but it's hardly a big fight in boxing. He could go up to cruiserweight like he said he wanted to, but sadly cruiserweight, despite being loaded with talent & exciting fighters (and a dope tournament right now), no one cares about the division. He could in theory clean out the division and be a god in the boxing history books but the fights would be small time. Other than going to heavyweight which just isn't realistic, there are no big fights.

Hell, his PPV rematch with Kovalev, which was a great fight very close and controversial, did LESS buys than the first fight. It sold under 125,000 buys (compared to 150k for the first fight) and had a paid attendance of only 6,366 people. Terrible low numbers for one of the best fights in all or boxing that could have been made at the time.

So for whatever the reasons, no matter what Ward did, no matter who he fought and who he beat, he just seemed to rub people the wrong way, even hardcore boxing fans who tend to look past personality a lot more than casuals. So I'm sure that has something to do with his decision (just not generating the amount of money he thinks he should be at this point).

Sidenote: I thought his contract with Jay Z had more fights remaining. If so i wonder how that's going to work out.
