I always think i like "the great outdoors" nah, i probably don't. I probably just like standing in wooded areas when im stoned on nice summer days. The actual great outdoors sucks. Clouds of mosquitoes and malicious flesh eating flies and hornets and bees and worms and centipedes and animal shit and dead birds and dirt and mud and damp / wet socks and dirty shoes fuck that

Then you scrape your arm or leg or something on a branch or brush some weird bush. It starts off like a little spot of irritation that doesn't go away then you wake up with a fever and it's swollen and there's a bump so you go to the doctor and they say it's nothing to worry about and give you amoxicillin anyway but that just feeds it and it grows then they hospitalize you and give you something stronger, but it still won't go away then they put a tube pumping antibiotics directly into your heart but the staph grows and they have to amputate your arm or your leg. All cause you wanted to go outside ; fuck that I'm not taking that chance

to be honest, even a lot of the archaeologists I work with share that in common with you. They will say "oh man, this is a great view, it's so beautiful here, this is why I love my job." then they complain as soon as it starts to rain or the black flys and mosquitos come out. complain about the scrapes on their legs and arms or having to climb over deadfall. I actually love it tho, so fuck them. Then they will say boreal forest archaeology sucks. Plains is where it's at. Fucking farmers fields. I can't stand that. the forest is the best place to work and it's where all the work is. I love my job no matter what. I like the outdoors and I will fight a bear with my shovel if I have to because I am not a bitch.

Most hotels have that. There's only two companies I know of that actually camp in tents or trailers to save money. Also academic archaeologists will do that. I did it for my MA because I didn't have any money, it was cool. Except for the last night when we canoed our gear to the pick up spot and the waves were coming into the bow of the canoe. Then we had to canoe back and I was soaking wet and just went into my tent and slept all night and woke up to snow all over and we had to canoe to the pick up spot again and we started a fire cuz it was kind of cold and the float plane was like 3 hours late picking us up.
